[Termes IGN] radargrammétrieRésumé : (Auteur) The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission distinguished itself as the first near-global spaceborne mission to demonstrate direct sensitivity to vertical vegetation structure. Whether this sensitivity is viewed as exploitable signal or unwanted bias, a great deal of interest exists in retrieving vegetation canopy height information from the SRTM data. This study presents a comprehensive application-specific assessment of SRTM data quality, focusing on the characterization and mitigation of two primary sources of relative vertical error: uncompensated Shuttle mast motion and random phase noise. The assessment spans four test sites located in the upper Midwestern United States and examines the dependence of data quality on both frequency, i.e., C-band vs. X-band, and the number of acquired datatakes. The results indicate that the quality of SRTM data may be higher than previously thought. Novel mitigation strategies include a knowledge-based approach to sample averaging, which has the potential to reduce phase noise error by 43 to 80%. The strategies presented here are being implemented as part of an ongoing effort to produce regional- to continental-scale estimates of vegetation canopy height within the conterminous U.S. Copyright Elsevier Numéro de notice : A2007-068 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : FORET/IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1016/j.rse.2006.09.007 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1016/j.rse.2006.09.007 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=28433

[Termes IGN] spectromètre imageurRésumé : (Auteur) This paper will describe the spectral calibration activities conducted during the MERIS commissioning phase and during operation since orbit 12000. MERIS is a medium resolution (300-1200m) push-broom imaging spectrometer covering the spectral domain 390-1040nm with 15 bands, programmable in position and width down to steps of 1.25nm. The onboard spectral calibration hardware is based on the use of an Erbium doped-diffuser panel presenting well-defined absorption peaks. In the spectral calibration mode, MERIS is configured with narrow bands centred on an Erbium absorption feature (two are used). The first orbit, the instrument is calibrated by viewing the "white" radiometric diffuser plate and the following orbit the "pink" Erbium diffuser plate is deployed. This method allows each of the MERIS detectors involved to be characterized in wavelength. The Fraunhofer absorption lines were used to complement these results by providing additional measurements in the violet and near infrared part of the spectrum. For this method, MERIS was configured both for Earth and diffuser observations and acquired data for only a limited number of orbits. This procedure was repeated for different band settings covering a number of Fraunhofer absorption lines. Finally, using Oxygen (O2A) absorption Earth observation data, two different approaches were developed, one based on the retrieval of surface pressure and one based on the shape of the O2A absorption band. Both methods were developed for clear sky land observations, but their performances are improved over bright land targets. Both methods agree to within an accuracy of 0.02 nm. The results from the different methods are analyzed in order to propose a spectral model for the MERIS instrument. Preliminary results of the spectral variation with time are reported. Except camera 4, the instrument is quite stable with time. Camera 4 needs further investigations to better understand its behaviour. Except for the use of the MERIS oxygen band, the spectral characterization of the other MERIS bands is achieved within the nominal accuracy (1 nm). [Termes IGN] temps atomique internationalRésumé : (Auteur) The TOPEX/Poseidon (T/P) satellite alti- meter mission marked a new era in determining the geopotential constant W 0. On the basis of T/P data during 1993–2003 (cycles 11–414), long-term variations in W 0 have been investigated. The rounded value W 0 = 62636856.0 1 0.5) m 2 s -2 has already been adopted by the International Astronomical Union for the definition of the constant L G = W 0/c 2 = 6.969290134 * 10-10 (where c is the speed of light), which is required for the realization of the relativistic atomic time scale. The constant L G , based on the above value of W 0, is also included in the 2003 International Earth Rotation and Reference Frames Service conventions. It has also been suggested that W 0 is used to specify a global vertical reference system (GVRS). W 0 ensures the consistency with the International Terrestrial Reference System, i.e. after adopting W 0, along with the geocentric gravitational constant (GM), the Earth’s rotational velocity (?) and the second zonal geopotential coefficient (J 2) as primary constants (parameters), then the ellipsoidal parameters (a,?) can be computed and adopted as derived parameters. The scale of the International Terrestrial Reference Frame 2000 (ITRF2000) has also been specified with the use of W 0 to be consistent with the geocentric coordinate time. As an example of using W 0 for a GVRS realization, the geopotential difference between the adopted W 0 and the geopotential at the Rimouski tide-gauge point, specifying the North American Vertical Datum 1988 (NAVD88), has been estimated.
