[Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Accurate mapping of impervious surface in urban areas is of great demand in environmental and socio-economic studies since impervious surface growth is recognized as an indicator of urbanization. To demonstrate the potential of full polarimetric Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) in impervious surface detection in different urban areas, this study focused on the exploitation of only SAR data. Three cities with different levels of urbanization – Tehran, Kordkuy, and Arak – have been selected to reduce the effect of input data on achieved results. Advanced Land Observing Satellite/Phased Array L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (ALOS/PALSAR) images have been classified by support vector machine (SVM) with the help of training data from high-resolution satellite images. Quantitative assessment of classification accuracy revealed that Kordkuy, a not fully developed city (i.e. 84.2%) has the lowest accuracy and Arak, a medium urbanized city, has the highest accuracy (i.e. 90.0%). To further explore the efficiency of full polarimetric SAR, grey level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) texture of polarized bands has been extracted and put into the classification procedure. The texture information of SAR data provided positive contribution to the impervious surface estimation in three study cases. The improvement is especially noted in dark impervious surface class. All three study areas show an increase of about 6–8% in classification accuracy. The results prove that single use of full polarimetric SAR images holds high potential in identifying impervious surfaces in urban areas. The findings are of great importance in frequent urban impervious surface mapping and monitoring especially in cloud-prone area, where the use of optical data as well as the fusion of optic and SAR data are limited. [Termes IGN] varianceRésumé : (Auteur) In this article, we borrow from the blind noise parameter estimation (BNPE) methodology early developed in the image processing field an original and innovative no-reference approach to estimate digital elevation model (DEM) vertical error parameters without resorting to a reference DEM. The challenges associated with the proposed approach related to the physical nature of the error and its multifactor structure in DEM are discussed in detail. A suitable multivariate method is then developed for estimating the error in gridded DEM. It is built on a recently proposed vectorial BNPE method for estimating spatially correlated noise using noise informative areas and fractal Brownian motion. The new multivariate method is derived to estimate the effect of the stacking procedure and that of the epipolar line error on local (fine-scale) standard deviation and autocorrelation function width of photogrammetric DEM measurement error. Applying the new estimator to Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) GDEM2 and Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) World 3D DEMs, good agreement of derived estimates with results available in the literature is evidenced. Adopted for TanDEM-X-DEM, estimates obtained agree well with the values provided in the height error map. In future works, the proposed no-reference method for analyzing DEM error can be extended to a larger number of predictors for accounting for other factors influencing remote sensing (RS) DEM accuracy. [Termes IGN] série temporelleRésumé : (auteur) It has been recognized since the early days of interplanetary spaceflight that accurate navigation requires taking into account changes in the Earth’s rotation. In the 1960s, tracking anomalies during the Ranger VII and VIII lunar missions were traced to errors in the Earth orientation parameters. As a result, Earth orientation calibration methods were improved to support the Mariner IV and V planetary missions. Today, accurate Earth orientation parameters are used to track and navigate every interplanetary spaceflight mission. The approach taken at JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) to provide the interplanetary spacecraft tracking and navigation teams with the UT1 and polar motion parameters that they need is based upon the use of a Kalman filter to combine past measurements of these parameters and predict their future evolution. A model was then used to provide the nutation/precession components of the Earth’s orientation. As a result, variations caused by the free core nutation were not taken into account. But for the highest accuracy, these variations must be considered. So JPL recently developed an approach based upon the use of a Kalman filter and smoother to provide smoothed and predicted celestial pole offsets (CPOs) to the interplanetary spacecraft tracking and navigation teams. The approach used at JPL to do this and an evaluation of the accuracy of the predicted CPOs is given here. For assessing the quality of JPL’s nutation predictions, we compare the time series of dX, dY provided by JPL with the predictions obtained from the IERS Rapid Service/Prediction Centre. Our results confirmed that the approach recently developed by JPL can be used for the successful nutation prediction. In particular, we show that after 90 days of prediction, the estimated errors are 43% lower for dX and 33% lower for dY than in the case of the official IERS products, and an average improvement is 19% and 22% for dX and dY, respectively. [Termes IGN] tenseurRésumé : (auteur) In this article, we propose a novel tensorial approach, namely, generalized tensor regression, for hyperspectral image classification. First, a simple and effective classifier, i.e., the ridge regression for multivariate labels, is extended to its tensorial version by taking advantages of tensorial representation. Then, the discrimination information of different modes is exploited to further strengthen the capacity of the model. Moreover, the model can be simplified and solved easily. Different from traditional tensorial methods, the proposed model can be utilized to capture not only the intrinsic structure of data in a physical sense but also the generalized relationship of data in a logical sense. Our proposed approach is shown to be effective for different classification purposes on a series of instantiations. Specifically, our experiment results with hyperspectral images collected by the airborne visible/infrared imaging spectrometer, the reflective optics spectrographic imaging system and the ITRES CASI-1500 demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach as compared to other tensor-based classifiers and multiple kernel learning methods. [Termes IGN] test statistiqueRésumé : (Auteur) The main objective of this study to produce landslide susceptibility zones using maximum entropy (MaxEnt) and support vector machine (SVM) data-driven models along the Tipari to Ghuttu highway corridors in the Garhwal Himalaya. A landslide inventory has been prepared through field surveys and LISS-IV and Landsat 8 satellite images. The datasets of 85 landslides were categorised into training and test sets. In this study 11 landslide conditioning variables were used that are; altitude, slope angle, aspect, plan curvature, topographic wetness index, normalised difference vegetation index (NDVI), land use, soil texture, distance to rivers, distance to faults, and distance to the road. The result produced using MaxEnt and SVM model were subsequently validated using receiver operating characteristics curve (ROC) with test sets of landslide dataset. Both the models have good prediction capabilities. MaxEnt has ROC value of 0.78 while SVM has the highest prediction rate of 0.85.
