[Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Editeur) A system has been developed for managing agricultural grants in Ireland. It extends Oracle Spatial databases by adding web-based spatial information management functionality and does not require the use of complex proprietary application specific software to differenciate itself from traditional GIS. The system serves 125 000 farmers for a total of 700 000 fields parcels. The authors show the potentialities of the technology as developed for the Irish Department of Agriculture. [Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (Auteur) Interpreting the geometry of geological objects is a standard activity of fieldbased geologists. We present new Graphics tools that will aid in extending this activity from 2D geological mapping into a 3D environment. Much of the existing 3D geological modeling software supports the construction of objects with the input of dense control data. However, for regional mapping and near mine exploration work, sparse data is the norm. Tools are required therefore, which give the expert interpreter full control of the graphics objects, while at the same time constraining interpretations to specific control data from field observations. We present the initial results of a software design and programming project for the visualization of complex regional scale geologic objects using Bezierbased graphics tools that are optimized for sparse data interpretation. We also introduce the concept of a structural ribbon, which is a 3D extended map trace, along with methods for the optimization of surface construction using graphical grip frames. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) The identification and classification of mountain pine beetle, Dentroctonus ponderos (Hopkins), red-attack damage patterns in a mature lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta) forest located in the Forst St-James forest Distric, British Columbia, was accomplished using 1999 Landsat TM satellite imagery, 1999 mountain pine beetle field and aerial survey point data, and GIS forest inventory data. Unrelated variance in the observed spectral response at mountain pine beetle field and aerial survey points was reduced following image stratification with the GIS forest inventory data and removal of other factors uncharacteristic of red-attack damage. Locations of known mountain pine beetle infestation were used to train a maximum-likelihood algorithm ; overall classification accuracy was 73 percent, based on an assessment of 360 independent validation points. If local stand variability is reduced prior to signature generation, accuracies and mao products can be useful for those involved in active forest management decision making regarding mountain pine beetle infestations. [Termes IGN] occupation du solRésumé : (Auteur) Landsat TM and ETM data were used to create forest/non-forest maps with spatial patterns of forest fragmentation created by road building, agricultural colonisation and hydrocarbon exploration in Chapare (Bolivia) since the 1980s were analysed. Different spatial patterns of forest fragmentation were identified and analysed using landscape ecology metrics. These patterns are function of their deforestation histories which, in turn, can be explained by variety of Bolivian government policies. The relationships between landscape metrics and different simulated spatial resolutions of image data (from 30 to 1100) biodiversity conservation in humid tropical lowlands are considered.
