The methodology is applied to processes of residential spread in a part of the commuting periphery of Brussels. The model hypothesizes that households effect on urban development, through their valuation of neighbourhood externalities. A coarse sensitivity analysis is undertaken in order to explore the relationship between household neighbourhood preferences and emerging spatial morphologies. These macro structures are measured with different indices in order to parameterize the model.

[Termes IGN] voxelRésumé : (Auteur) We propose an extension of map algebra to three dimensions for spatio-temporal data handling. This approach yields a new class of map algebra functions that we call "cube functions". Whereas conventional map algebra functions operate on data layers representing two-dimensional space, cube functions operate on data cubes representing two-dimensional space over a third-dimensional period of time. We describe the prototype implementation of a spatio-temporal data structure and selected cube function versions of conventional local, focal and zonal map algebra functions. The utility of cube functions is demonstrated through a case study analysing the spatio-temporal variability of remotly sensed, southeastern U.S. vegetation character over various land covers and during different El Nino/Southeastern Oscillation (ENSO) phases. Like conventional map algebra, the application of cube functions may demand significant data prepocessing when integrating diverse data sets, and are subject to limitations related to data storage and algorithm performance. Solutions to these issues include extending data compression and computing strategies for calculations on very large data volumes to spatio-temporal data handling. [Termes IGN] transportRésumé : (Editeur) For geographic analysts, modelers, software engineers, and GIS professionals, GIS, Spatial Analysis, and Modeling presents applied, software-centric essays about the tools and methods currently available to do modeling and spatial analysis within a GIS framework. Written by noted experts who have experience modeling within, and linking to, GIS software, this book poses a series of questions where geography is the pivotal issue : 1- What are the most useful approaches for simulating geographic processes ? 2- What software is available to model the dynamics of space and time ? 3- How have spatial analysis and modeling been applied to substantive, real-world problems ? With discussions of agent-based modeling, dynamic feedback and simulation modeling, links between models and GIS software, with applications based on environmental, atmospheric, hydrological, urban, social, health, and economic models, this book describes the state-of-the-art understanding in this dynamic field. We present results on using this method for locating forest areas in high-resolution aerial images with very high reliability, achieving more than 95% accuracy, using raw radiometric channels as well as derived color and texture features. Region boundaries are obtained from a multi-scale hierarchical segmentation or from a registration of cadastral maps.
