De ce constat est née l'idée d'une "vitrine" web pour ces dispositifs et leurs résultats. Les fournisseurs d'information sont intéressés par ce projet, qui devrait favoriser l'accès à l'information et la valorisation de leurs travaux. Le SIEF doit donc à la fois informer sur les dispositifs et présenter de façon thématique des résultats exemplaires qui en sont issus. Le contenu du site doit être accessible à des non-spécialistes, tout en offrant des passerelles pour une information plus spécialisée. Un prototype a été développé et mis en ligne pendant plusieurs mois pour recueillir des avis. Les marques d'intérêt reçues amènent à envisager une suite concrète à ce projet, en tenant compte des évolutions en cours dans le domaine de l'information, et en articulation avec le projet de Catalogue des sources d'information sur la forêt (Ca-SIF).
