[Termes IGN] TéhéranRésumé : (Auteur) Evapotranspiration is considered to be an important component of allocating water to agricultural sector; therefore, the more accurate this parameter is, the more optimized the water use can be. This study was conducted in order to evaluate the Landsat 8 and Sentinel-2 data (A and B), both separately and combined, in potential evapotranspiration (ETp) and single crop coefficient (Kc) estimations. Field measurements such as crop height, leaf area index (LAI), land surface temperature (LST), air temperature above canopy (AT), and spectral data were exploited in the evaluating process throughout the entirety of 2017–18 growing season under winter wheat and barley cultivations in the Agricultural Research Farms of the University of Tehran. The novel method of Multi-Sensor Data Fusion using the Priestly-Taylor equation was taken into practice for satellite-based ETp (MSDF-ET) calculation from the combination of MODIS thermal and Landsat 8 and Sentinel-2 multispectral data. Thermal images were downscaled by the means of the TsHARP algorithm. Thus, prior to ETp calculation, the thermal sharpening algorithm calculated using different spectral indices (SI) was assessed. The SI included NDVI, SAVI, SR, NDWI, NDWIg, and LSWI. The subsequent results were representative of the LSWI qualification under both Landsat 8 and Sentinel-2 conditions against thermal and spectral measurements. Also the satellite-based ETp strongly correlated with the ETp derived from the field data illuminating the promising accuracy of the MSDF-ET method in both Landsat 8 and Sentinel-2 data. In the end, the time series of Kc obtained from the combination of satellites were fairly indicative of the real-world variations under different vegetation cover and crop growth stages. Overall, using Landsat 8 and Sentinel-2 products in integration with each other could significantly result in more reliable decisions in agricultural water resources management. [Termes IGN] teneur en chlorophylle des feuillesRésumé : (Auteur) Monitoring in situ chlorophyll (Chl) content in agricultural crop leaves is of great importance for stress detection, nutritional state diagnosis, yield prediction and studying the mechanisms of plant and environment interaction. Numerous spectral indices have been developed for chlorophyll estimation from leaf- and canopy-level reflectance. However, in most cases, these indices are negatively affected by variations in canopy structure and soil background. The objective of this study was to develop spectral indices that can reduce the effects of varied canopy structure and growth stages for the estimation of leaf Chl. Hyperspectral reflectance data was obtained through simulation by a radiative transfer model, PROSAIL, and measurements from canopies of barley comprising different cultivars across growth stages using spectroradiometers. We applied a comprehensive band-optimization algorithm to explore five types of spectral indices: reflectance difference (RD), reflectance ratio (RR), normalized reflectance difference (NRD), difference of reflectance ratio (DRR) and ratio of reflectance difference (RRD). Indirectly using the multiple scatter correction (MSC) theory, we hypothesized that RRD can eliminate adverse effects of soil background, canopy structure and multiple scattering. Published indices and multivariate models such as optimum multiple band regression (OMBR), partial least squares regression (PLSR) and support vector machines for regression (SVR) were also employed. The study was carried out inan agricultural municipality located in the Middle Ebro valley, one of the most arid regions in Europe. The methodology proposed here has allowed the prediction of wheat and barley production in February, four months before harvest. Moreover, the predictive models created have explained 88% and 82% of the temporal variability of wheat and barley production respectively. This procedure could be every useful for managing crop production at a municipal level. Moreover, insurance companies could take advantage of the early prediction of crop losses, which are very frequent in this drought-affected area. [Termes IGN] orge (céréale)Résumé : (Auteur) The main goal of the study was to determine optimal waveband centers and widths required to best estimate agricultural crop characteristics. The hyperspectral narrowband data was acquired over 395 to 1010 nanometers using a 1.43-nanometerwide, 430 bands, hand-held spectroradiometer. Broadband data were derived using a Landsat-5 Thematic Mapper image acquired to correspond with field spectroradiometer and ground-truth measurements. Spectral and biophysical data were obtained from 196 sample locations, including forms and rangelands, Six representative crops grown during the main cropping season were selected: barley, wheat, lentil, cumin, chickpea, and vetch. Biophysical variables consisted of leaf area index, wet biornass, dry biomass, plant height, plant nitrogen, and canopy cover.
Narrowband and broadband vegetation indices were computed and their relationship with quantitative crop characteristics were established and compared. The simple narrowband two-band vegetation indices (TBVI) and the optimum multiple-band vegetation indices (OMBVI) models provided the best results. The narrowband TBVI and omBvi models are compared with six other categories of narrow and broadband indices, Compared to the best broadband Tm indices, TBvi explained up to 24 percent greater variability and OMBYI explained up to 27 percent greater variability in estimating different crop variables. A Predominant proportion of crop characteristics are best estimated using data from four narrowbands, in order of importance, centered around 675 nanometers (red absorption maxima), 905 run (near-infrared reflection peak), 720 run (mid portion of the red-edge), and 550 run (green reflectance maxima). Such data are even more important where, as in the European Community, a common agricultural policy is one of the important aims. Considerable differences between European countries concerning agricultural production have led to a complex system of rules and subsidies which all rely on a certain level of precision of agricultural statistics.
Remote sensing seems to be the most promising technique for upgrading the agricultural statistics system. To obtain rapid improvements, while avoiding duplication of work and a diversity of methods, the Commission has set up a Pilot Project to introduce remote sensing into the European Community agricultural statistics system. The Joint Research Centre is in charge of this project, the objectives being defined according to the priorities of Directorate General VI - Agriculture, and the European Communities Statistical Office.
The first requirement is to distinguish, identify and measure the area of important crops. The second is to estimate production in good time so that decisions can be made.
