[Termes IGN] image hyperspectraleRésumé : (Auteur) Earth Observing-1 Hyperion data were found to be relatively noisy and to contain significant cross-track spectral curvature nonlinearity disturbances, known as the smile/frown effect. A method for the correction of spectral curvature effects (smile) in Hyperion images, termed trend line smile correction (TLSC), is presented. The method is based on the assumption that there is a partial correlation between data spectral nonuniformity, due to the smile and eigenvalues gradient that mostly appears in the first minimum noise fraction (MNF) image (MNF-1). However, MNF-1 consists of both spatial and spectral information. Therefore, it is hypothesized that adaptation applied to MNF-1, according to exclusively spectrally derived parameters (e.g., atmospheric absorption features) can account specifically for the smile effect in the data. A set of normalization factors, calculated from the spectral derivative at the right-hand side of the O2 absorption feature (760 nm), MNF-1 and the moderate-resolution atmospheric transmittance radiative transfer model, are used to scale the initial MNF-1. The image is corrected after the inverse conversion of the MNF to radiance space. The methodology was tested on four different Hyperion scenes and consistently outperformed other tested methods by up to nine times. As a result, thematic mapping, using the TLSC-corrected reflectance data cube, was shown to be consistent with the geology maps of the study area. [Termes IGN] signalisation routièreRésumé : (Auteur) Roadway signs are important for safety, and transportation agencies need to identify sign condition changes to perform timely maintenance, including replacement. Currently, sign condition changes are inspected manually in the field, which is time consuming, costly, and some--times dangerous. This paper first proposes a novel algorithm to detect three condition changes: missing, tilted, and blocked signs, using GPS data and video log images. The algorithm consists of three steps: (a) Multi-Scale Sign Image Matching (m-sim), (b) Image feature analysis, and (c) Sign condition change detection and classification. The algorithm was tested using images with simulated sign condition changes and actual video images taken in Fiscal Year (fy) 2003 and 2005 by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (ladotd). The tests demonstrate the algorithm is effective to detect three types of sign condition changes. Out of 34,000 actual video log images, the algorithm detected and classified 100 percent of the missing signs, 72.7 percent of the tilted signs, and 66.7 percent of the blocked signs, for an overall 74.3 percent detection rate. These results show that the algorithm is useful for developing an intelligent roadway sign condition change detection system. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (Auteur) The Three Gorges Area (TGA), along the Yangtze River, China has been experiencing drastic land use and land cover (LU/LC) changes since the commencement of the construction of the Three Gorges Dam in 1994. These changes may have environmental impacts. However, information about the changes is limited and difficult to obtain. In this paper, optical satellite imagery is used to detect LU/LC changes during the study period 1987-2006 for the complicated, high-relief environment. A case study was conducted in Zigui County of Hubei Province within the TGA. A site-specific procedure using a decision rule-based classification method and a post classification change detection technique is developed to combine spectral and spatial knowledge in the classification of multi-temporal images. Using the decision rule-based classification method, overall accuracies of LU/LC maps of seven classes between 73.4% and 89.5% were obtained, increased by 4-5% over that using the traditional method. The results show that the main trend in LU/LC change in the study area throughout the monitoring period was a steady reduction in natural vegetation areas. About 32% of the total area of natural vegetation, including forest, shrub and grass, was lost to built up areas, crop fields and orchards. Quatre questions doivent être abordées afin d'améliorer cette situation.
