[Termes IGN] Texas (Etats-Unis)Résumé : (Auteur) Airborne hyperspectral imagery was evaluated for differentiating among rangeland ecological variables on two range sites (tight sandy loam and shallow ridge) on south Texas rangelands. Field spectroradiometric reflectance measurements made on dominant vegetation (plant species and vegetation mixtures) and soil land-use types on the two sites identified six wavelengths [five visible and one near-infrared (NIR)] where significant spectral differences occurred among the parameters. The spectral bands that corresponded to these wavelengths were extracted from the 128-band hyperspectral images obtained of each site and used to develop false color composites that were subjected to computer classifications and accuracy assessments. The bands selected for the composites included the green (498.9 nm), yellow-green (549.7 nm), orange (629.6 nm), red (651.3 nm), dark red (680.4 nm), and NIR (825.5 tim). Accuracy assessments performed on the classification maps of four false color composites of the tight sandy loam site had overall accuracies ranging from 76% to 85%; the highest accuracy was obtained from the composite made up of the NIR, red, and yellow-green bands. Accuracy assessments performed on the classification maps of three composites of the shallow ridge site had overall accuracies ranging from 74% to 77%; the highest accuracy was acquired from a composite comprised of the NIR, orange, and yellow-green bands. Overall accuracies were considered good and indicate that several band combinations can be used successfully to differentiate among, rangeland parameters in southern Texas. Key Words: remote sensing, hyperspectral imagery, reflectance, false color composite imagery, accuracy assessment. [Termes IGN] simulationRésumé : (Auteur) Applications like land-cover mapping frequently require the transformation of vector polygons to raster grids, such that each cell in the output raster is assigned a single class. Cell value assignment is a direct function of the geometric relationship between the vector polygons and the origin, orientation and spatial resolution of the raster structure, acting in conjunction with the value assignment rule employed by the algorithm. Results of an alternative approach to characterizing origin assignment variability are reported. A simulation approach is employed to perturb the origin of the grid lattice by amounts smaller than the grid spacing. The distribution of results across all output raster realizations indicates the rasterization variability for a particular input vector map at a particular cell size. Results for a representative vector land-cover dataset are presented, indicating that substantial variability is possible. The paper concludes with a discussion of theoretical and practical implications for the identification of appropriate cell resolutions, as well as for identifying particular input shapes and polygon configurations that may be especially sensitive to rasterization error. [Termes IGN] pas d'échantillonnage au solRésumé : (Auteur) Civil space-borne Earth surface mapping started in 1972 with a 80 m GSD provided by ERTS, later renamed to landsat-1. Nowadays, the GSD approaches 1 m or even less. This trend was supported by the improvements in diverse fields of technology as for instance optics, mechanics and materials, electronics, signal processing, communications and navigation. The space-borne mapping systems always attempted to achieve the highest ground resolution possible with the available technology at the given time. SAR systems are an alternative to passive optical systems ; they also benefit from the technology improvements. But the most promising prospects for high resolution mapping with small satellites are connected with passive optical systems, especially push-broom systems. The paper tries to analyse how far can we go in decreasing the GSD using instruments and spacecrafts decreasing in size, mass and power consumption.
