[Vedettes matières IGN] Végétation et changement climatiqueRésumé : (auteur) Biomass ratio is a state variable allowing the conversion of the forest growing stock into biomass (Kauppi et al., 2006). This variable is most often considered constant per tree species despite the huge range of intraspecific variability of basic density. Indeed, the factors that influence wood density are numerous: tree growth and age, competition (e.g. forest structure), genetics as well as intra and inter annual climatic variations. In light of such diversity, scientific research into forest biomass characteristics is required to better incorporate the heterogeneity of forests in the forest carbon accounting methods (Bowen et al., 2011).
Materials and methods: In 2016 and 2017 over fifty five thousands increment cores were collected in the field by the French NFI. Wood density measurements were performed at INRA (Leban et al., 2019, this conference) and combined with the French NFI calculation system, biomass ratio can now be computed as a standard. This quantity can now be depicted over stratification variables such as soil water availability. An exploratory and ANOVA-assisted analysis of this gradient was performed.
Results: Biomass ratio was found strongly related to soil water availability, with a decrease of biomass ratio at the hardwood and softwood scale, but no correlation were found at the specie level. Explanations come from the species repartition along the gradients from high wood density to low density driven by soil water availability.
Conclusion: Wood density data acquired on the French NFI allow major steps forward toward the proper estimate of forest biomass resources and of carbon sequestration. Biomass ratio was found correlated with climatic contexts, suggesting that biomass sequestration at constant volume may increase in a warmer climate. But this change will be made through change of composition of the forest rather than an adaptation of the species.Numéro de notice : C2019-049 Affiliation des auteurs : LIF+Ext (2012-2019) Thématique : FORET Nature : Poster nature-HAL : Poster-avec-CL DOI : sans Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=95768 Climate variability and climate change impacts on land surface, hydrological processes and water management / Yongqiang Zhang (2019)

Therefore, persistent efforts are required to improve our understanding of hydrological processes and to engage in efficient water management strategies that explicitly consider changing environmental conditions. The twenty-four contributions in this book have broadly addressed topics across four major research areas: (1) Climate and land-use change impacts on hydrological processes, (2) hydrological trends and causality analysis faced in hydrology, (3) hydrological model simulations and predictions, and (4) reviews on water prices and climate extremes. The broad spectrum of international contributions to the Special Issue indicates that climate change impacts on water resources analysis attracts global attention. We hope that the collection of articles presented here can provide scientists, policymakers and stakeholders alike with insights that support sustainable decision-making in the face of climate change and increasingly scarce environmental resources. Note de contenu : Introduction

[Termes IGN] ville durableRésumé : (auteur) As one of the largest consumers of energy, the housing sector and its unconscious occupants' activities negatively affect the environment. Architects and engineers have a major role in resolving the associated problems while maintaining comfort for occupants. Also very important are environmental education and awareness of appropriate environmental development in designing activity and selecting building materials and products. There are different architectural strategies that are aimed to achieve a low-energy built environment. Determining the needed strategy according to function, economy, and occupant comfort and affordability is the crucial step. This book helps the reader to achieve a sustainable development without destruction of the resources while maintaining a growing universal awareness of protecting the living and non-living environment. Thus, this study aims at comparing the capability of multispectral S2 and airborne hyperspectral remote sensing data for SOC prediction, and at the same time, we investigated the importance of spectral and spatial resolution through the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), the variable importance in the prediction (VIP) models and the spatial variability of the SOC maps at field and regional scales. We tested the capability of the S2 data to predict SOC in croplands with quite different soil types and parent materials in Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium, using multivariate statistics and local ground calibration with soil samples. We split the calibration dataset into sub-regions according to soil maps and built a multivariate regression model within each sub-region. The prediction accuracy obtained by S2 data is generally slightly lower than that retrieved by airborne hyperspectral data. The ratio of performance to deviation (RPD) is higher than 2 in Luxembourg (2.6) and German (2.2) site, while it is 1.1 in the Belgian area. After the spectral resampling of the airborne data according to S2 band, the prediction accuracy did not change for four out of five of the sub-regions. The variable importance values obtained by S2 data showed the same trend as the airborne VIP values, while the importance of SWIR bands decreased using airborne data resampled according the S2 bands. These differences of VIP values can be explained by the loss of spectral resolution as compared to APEX data and the strong difference in terms of SNR between the SWIR region and other spectral regions. The investigation on the spatial variability of the SOC maps derived by S2 data has shown that the spatial resolution of S2 is adequate to describe SOC variability both within field and at regional scale.
