[Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) SAR stereo image analysis for 3D information extraction is mostly carried out based on imagery taken under same-side or opposite-side viewing conditions. For urban scenes in practice stereo is up to now usually restricted to the first configuration, because increasing image dissimilarity connected with rising illumination direction differences leads to a lack of suitable features for matching, especially in the case of low or medium resolution data. However, due to two developments SAR stereo from arbitrary viewing conditions becomes an interesting option for urban information extraction. The first one is the availability of airborne sensor systems, which are capable of more flexible data acquisition in comparison to satellite sensors. This flexibility enables multi-aspect analysis of objects in built-up areas for various kinds of purpose, such as building recognition, road network extraction, or traffic monitoring. The second development is the significant improvement of the geometric resolution providing a high level of detail especially of roof features, which can be observed from a wide span of viewpoints. In this paper, high-resolution SAR images of an urban scene are analyzed in order to infer buildings and their height from the different layover effects in views taken from orthogonal aspect angles. High level object matching is proposed that relies on symbolic data, representing suitable features of urban objects. Here, a knowledge-based approach is applied, which is realized by a production system that codes a set of suitable principles of perceptual grouping in its production rules. The images are analyzed separately for the presence of certain object groups and their characteristics frequently appearing on buildings, such as salient rows of point targets, rectangular structures or symmetries. The stereo analysis is then accomplished by means of productions that combine and match these 2D image objects and infer their height by 3D clustering. The approach is tested using real SAR data of an urban scene. [Termes IGN] TibetRésumé : (auteur) With its global coverage and all-weather imaging capability, Interferometric SAR (InSAR) has been revolutionizing our ability to image the Earth's surface and the evolution of its shape over time. In turn, this has led to many new insights into geophysical and engineering processes, such as volcanoes, earthquakes, landslides and mining activity. In this study, we used an advanced InSAR time series technique to map ground motion of an area in Northern Tibet using ENVISAT images acquired between 2003 and 2007. In order to minimise the effects of baseline decorrelation, a subset of possible pairs having a perpendicular baseline (i.e. orbital separation) of less than 400 m was chosen for the InSAR time series analysis. The time series results reveal an ‘unexpected’ nonlinear ground motion: the area of interest was relatively stable during the period from 2003 to the middle of 2004, whilst it has exhibited a nearly linear uplift of about 8 cm since the middle of 2004. Examination of high-resolution ALOS PRISM images shows that the uplift signal occurred over the Huatugou oil field and is most likely caused by water injection. This study highlights the potential of InSAR as an early detection tool of surface deformations. [Termes IGN] seuillage d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) A multiple classifiers system which adopts an effective weighting policy to combine the output of several classifiers, generally leads to a better performance in image classification. The two most commonly used weighting policies are Bagging and Boosting algorithms. However, their performance is limited by high levels of ambiguity among classes. To overcome this difficulty, an adaptive thresholding criterion was proposed. By applying it to SAR and optical images for terrain cover classification, comparisons between the multiple classifiers systems using the Bagging and/or Boosting algorithms with and without the adaptive thresholding criterion were made. Experimental results showed that the classification substantially improved when the adaptive thresholding criterion was used, especially when the level of ambiguity of targets was high. [Termes IGN] rétrodiffusionRésumé : (Auteur) Radar backscatter values from oil spills are very similar to backscatter values from very calm sea areas and other ocean phenomena. Several studies aiming at oil spill detection have been conducted. Most of these studies rely on the detection of dark areas, which have high Bayesian probability of being oil spills. The drawback of these methods is a complex process, mainly because non-linearly separable datasets are introduced in statistically based decisions. The use of neural networks (NNs) in remote sensing has increased significantly, as NNs can simultaneously handle non-linear data of a multidimensional input space. In this article, we investigate the ability of two commonly used feed-forward NN models: multilayer perceptron (MLP) and radial basis function (RBF) networks, to classify dark formations in oil spills and look-alike phenomena. The appropriate training algorithm, type and architecture of the optimum network are subjects of research. Inputs to the networks are the original synthetic aperture radar image and other images derived from it. MLP networks are recognized as more suitable for oil spill detection. [Termes IGN] TerraSAR-XRésumé : (Auteur) Commercially available imagery is and will remain indispensable to civilian and military organizations gathering various types of geo-spatial information. Whether fulfilling international agreements, providing military contingents in international peacekeeping or humanitarian missions, or conducting joint technical exercises with other countries - a reliable access to timely, high resolution remote sensing data is an essential basis for well-informed decision making, particularly in time-critical situations. Today, organizations with those needs customarily resort to high resolution data acquired by optical sensors - often a lengthy operation. The radar satellite TerraSAR-X, and at a later stage together with TanDEM-X with it's complementary near-real time data acquisition capabilities, offer a whole new approach to the use of space-borne datasets for mapping purposes in time-critical situations.
