[Termes IGN] vue perspectiveRésumé : (Auteur) The Intensity Hue Saturation (IHS) transformation is used to integrate the high spectral resolution, provided by hyperspectral data (Airborne Visible Infrared Imaging Spectrometer, AVIRIS), and the surface texture information, derived from radar data (Topographic Synthetic Aperture Radar, TOPSAR), into a single image of an urban area. This transformed image is superimposed on the Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data derived from TOPSAR data to create a 3D perspective view. The ambiguity of several urban land cover types is resolved to a larger degree using the higher spectral and spatial resolutions and the synergistic visual content provided by the fused image in a 3D perspective. For urban areas that are at risk from geological hazards (e.g., avalanches, mudflows, and debris flows), the fused image provides a costeffective product, rich in the information necessary for assessment and mitigation of these hazards. [Termes IGN] segmentation d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) The automatic reconstruction of buildings for the generation of city models is of great interest for different tasks. Threedimensional information can be directly obtained from both, laser (LIDAR) and radar (InSAR) measurements. The features of both sensors are compared. The data acquisition by SAR is described, with emphasis on the special properties of the interferometric SAR principle. A segmentation approach for building reconstruction is proposed. The results show that building reconstruction is possible from InSAR, but the achievable level of detail cannot compete with LIDAR. The main source of limitation is the inherent sidelooking scene illumination of SAR, giving rise to disturbing phenomena interfering with often large parts of the scene. Geometric constraints for the location and size of such problem areas are derived. To identify areas of unreliable data in SAR images of a builtup area, corresponding elevation data are analysed. The impact of the phenomena layover, shadow and dominant scattering at building locations is considered. For this task, a hybrid elevation reference is required. The buildings and the surrounding ground are represented as CAD planes. Natural objects like trees and bushes remain in the raster representation. [Termes IGN] propagation ionosphériqueRésumé : (Auteur) There has been an increasing interest in the use of spaceborne very high frequency ultra high frequency (VHFUHF) synthetic aperture radar (SAR) for measuring forest biomass and for detecting underground facilities. The propagation characseristics of the lowfrequency electromagnetic wave are severely affected by the ionosphere. Recently, Faraday rotation effects and SAR image degradation have been studied using an analytical model and a homogeneous ionosphere. In this paper, a numerical model is developed to investigate the SAR image degradation caused by an inhomogeneous ionosphere. Both horizontal and a vertical structures of the ionosphere are considered in this model. Three different cases are studied. The first is a vertically homogemous ionosphere, where the simulation condition is the same as in the analytical study by Ishimaru and others. The second is a vertical profile, which is introduced using the Chapman formula. The raybending effect is added for the ionosphere with a layered structure. Finally, both the vertical profile in electron density and the horizontal gradient in total electron content are considered b the simulation. Simulation results show good agreement with the theoretical analysis under the same conditions of the ionosphere. When both horizontal and vertical structures and the inhomogeneity of the ionosphere are considered in the model, the simulation result shows further image degradation and shift caused by the raybending effect. The simulation results also show the strong frequency dependence of the SAR image resolution. Monitoring the plant on small water bodies can be done from the shore. On large lakes like Lake Victoria, however, this no longer works adequately. Remote sensing techniques can provide a means to monitor the presence of water hyacinth on large lakes. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) techniques are not hampered by cloud cover and can produce good quality data, well-suited for the inventory of water hyacinth.
