[Termes IGN] Vienne (capitale Autriche)Résumé : (auteur) We present a comprehensive methodological framework for structural deformation monitoring of critical infrastructure assets based on differential SAR interferometry. By employing persistent scatterer interferometry, deformation time series in line-of-sight are derived from freely available Sentinel-1 single look complex products. These raw time series are analysed and refined using an extensive post-processing chain to obtain daily rates for vertical and horizontal deformation components. The post-processing includes cleaning, smoothing and a temperature correction to account for different sensing times in ascending and descending orbits. Longitudinal clustering of time series is used to reveal spatial patterns in the single epoch deformation series. Seasonal trend decomposition of the aggregated time series is performed to separate deformation trends from seasonal deformations. The applicability of the framework is showcased at the example of an integral concrete bridge located in the port of Vienna. Results are validated against in situ deformation measurements. The presented framework constitutes a blueprint for the continuous monitoring of critical infrastructure assets using satellite interferometry, which may supplement conventional structural health monitoring. [Termes IGN] image radar moiréeRésumé : (auteur) Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image classification is a fundamental research direction in image interpretation. With the development of various intelligent technologies, deep learning techniques are gradually being applied to SAR image classification. In this study, a new SAR classification algorithm known as the multiscale convolutional neural network with an autoencoder regularization joint contextual attention network (MCAR-CAN) is proposed. The MCAR-CAN has two branches: the autoencoder regularization branch and the context attention branch. First, autoencoder regularization is used for the reconstruction of the input to regularize the classification in the autoencoder regularization branch. Multiscale input and an asymmetric structure of the autoencoder branch cause the network more to be focused on classification than on reconstruction. Second, the attention mechanism is used to produce an attention map in which each attention weight corresponds to a context correlation in attention branch. The robust features are obtained by the attention mechanism. Finally, the features obtained by the two branches are spliced for classification. In addition, a new training strategy and a postprocessing method are designed to further improve the classification accuracy. Experiments performed on the data from three SAR images demonstrated the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed algorithm. [Termes IGN] Viet NamRésumé : (auteur) One major characteristic of floods is flood extent. Information on this characteristic is indispensable for flood monitoring. Recently, synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data have been increasing in quality and quantity. This allows more flood studies conducted over large areas regardless of cloud and weather conditions and provides advantages including clear surface water classification based on SAR scattering mechanisms for low values (open water) and high values (inundated vegetation, etc.). However, challenges remain due to sources of uncertainties, such as atmospheric disturbances and vegetation masking parts of water surfaces. Therefore, in this study, we aim to optimize flood mapping processes on flooded vegetation that generated high-value pixels based on a SAR scattering mechanism called double bounce that classifies vegetative flooded water in L-band SAR images. This optimization is nearly impossible using Sentinel-1 scenes. Backscattering of time-series Sentinel-1 and ALOS-2 images acquired for the 2018 and 2019 flood season was analysed, thresholded and hybridized for flood mapping of a study site in the Tam Nong district of the Dong Thap Province of Vietnam. We found that the accuracy of SAR flood maps was improved compared to ground truth data when the SAR-extracted vegetative-flooded plains were considered flooded. [Termes IGN] variableRésumé : (auteur) Speckle noise inherent in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images seriously affects the visual effect and brings great difficulties to the postprocessing of the SAR image. Due to the edge-preserving feature, total variation (TV) regularization-based techniques have been extensively utilized to reduce the speckle. However, the strong scatters in SAR image with radiometry several orders of magnitude larger than their surrounding regions limit the effectiveness of TV regularization. Meanwhile, the ℓ1 -norm first-order TV regularization sometimes causes staircase artifacts as it favors solutions that are piecewise constant, and it usually underestimates high-amplitude components of image gradient as the ℓ1 -norm uniformly penalizes the amplitude. To overcome these shortcomings, a new hybrid variation model, called Fisher–Tippett (FT) distribution- ℓp -norm first-and second-order hybrid TVs (HTpVs), is proposed to reduce the speckle after removing the strong scatters. Especially, the FT-HTpV inherits the advantages of the distribution based data fidelity term, the nonconvex regularization, and the higher order TV regularization. Therefore, it can effectively remove the speckle while preserving point scatters and edges and reducing staircase artifacts well. To efficiently solve the nonconvex minimization problem, an iterative framework with a nonmonotone-accelerated proximal gradient (nmAPG) method and a matrix-vector acceleration strategy are used. Extensive experiments on both the simulated and real SAR images demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. [Termes IGN] Picea abiesRésumé : (auteur) Spruce budworm (Choristoneura fumiferana; SBW) is the most destructive forest pest of northeastern Canada and United States. SBW occurrence as well as the extent and severity of its damage are highly dependent on the characteristics of the forests and the availability of host species namely, spruce (Picea sp.) and balsam fir (Abies balsamea (L.) Mill.). Remote sensing satellite imagery represents a valuable data source for seamless regional-scale mapping of forest composition. This study developed and evaluated new models to map the distribution and abundance of SBW host species at 20 m spatial resolution using Sentinel-1 synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and Sentinel-2 multispectral imagery in combination with several site variables for a total of 191 variables in northern New Brunswick, Canada using the Random Forest (RF) algorithm. We found Sentinel-2 multi-temporal single spectral bands and numerous spectral vegetation indices (SVIs) yielded the classification of SBW host species with an overall accuracy (OA) of 72.6% and kappa coefficient (K) of 0.65. Incorporating Sentinel-1 SAR data with Sentinel-2 variables coupled with elevation, only marginally improved the performance of the model (OA: 73.0% and K: 0.66). The use of Sentinel-1 SAR data with elevation resulted in a reasonable OA of 57.5% and K of 0.47. These spatially explicit up-to-date SBW host species maps are essential for identifying susceptible forests, monitoring SBW defoliation, and minimizing forest losses from insect impacts at landscape scale in the current SBW outbreak in the region.
