[Termes IGN] surveillance géologiqueRésumé : (auteur) On 8th August 2017, a catastrophic Ms. 7.0 earthquake with a focal depth of 20 km struck the Jiuzhaigou County in Sichuan Province, China. It exerted a strong influence on the slope stability within the surrounding areas and triggered numerous secondary geohazards including rockfalls and other co-seismic landslides, which incurred drastic surface changes, and thus can be easily identified from cloud-free high-resolution optical imagery. Most of such landslides became stabilized shortly after the earthquake while others moving very slowly for years. In contrast, some slopes were destabilized without significant surface change into slow-moving landslides, which may pose long-term potential threats to people's life and property. Therefore, it is crucial to accurately identify these slow-moving landslides and regularly monitor their post-seismic activity. In this study, we employed the synthetic aperture radar interferometry (InSAR) techniques to detect and monitor slow-moving landslides after the earthquake in the Jiuzhaigou area, and analyzed the impacts of the earthquake on these landslides through integration of multi-source data (InSAR, Lidar, optical image, and field survey). As a result, 16 slow-moving landslides were detected by InSAR in the Jiuzhaigou area, including several historical landslides. The results of time-series InSAR analyses enabled identification of three kinds of landslide evolution modes affected by the earthquake, i.e. acceleration of deformation of pre-existing landslides, reactivation of dormant landslide, and remobilization of earthquake-triggered landslide. Each mode is supported by detailed analyses of multi-source data. The results demonstrated that satellite InSAR combined with high-resolution Lidar and optical data can provide a cost-effective approach of post-earthquake geohazards detection and monitoring. Applying all the remote sensing technology available, the Chinese Academy of Sciences immediately launched into action, making full use of its state-of-the-art facilities, remote sensing planes, and satellites to amass invaluable optical and radar data. This unprecedented use of comprehensive remote sensing techniques provided accurate, up to the minute information for disaster management and has left us with a visually stunning and beautiful record that is as much a scientific achievement as it is an artistic one. Based on the accumulated data and images collected by the Project Team of Remote Sensing Monitoring and Assessment of the Wenchuan Earthquake, Atlas of Remote Sensing of the Wenchuan Earthquake documents the events as they happened in real time. The book covers the disaster from six aspects: geological, barrier lakes, collapsed buildings, damaged roads, destroyed farmland and forests, and demolished infrastructure. It also demonstrates that the Dujiangyan Irrigation Project, which has been standing for 2000 years, remains fully functioning, and keeps the Chengdu Plain operating optimally even after the earthquake. Translated into English for the first time, the Atlas presents a pictorial summation of this unique project. It chronicles the event with over 280 before and after color images from a range of perspectives. This volume dramatically demonstrates the value of remote sensing for understanding how an earthquake unfolds and the potential of remote sensing in helping coordinate emergency relief. [Termes IGN] vitesseRésumé : (auteur) We present a new method for high-precision real-time earthquake monitoring that focuses on station velocity using single-frequency GPS receivers. By means of GPS absolute velocity determination (AVD), real-time station velocity of millimeter per second precision can be obtained epoch by epoch using the GPS broadcast ephemeris. While the monitoring stations are considered stationary during aseismic time, the coseismic displacement can be instantaneously recorded by the velocity changes. The 1-Hz GPS data at selected stations during the M w 8.0 Wenchuan earthquake, the M w 9.0 Tohoku-Oki earthquake and the M w 6.6 Lushan earthquake are processed with the AVD approach. The results indicate that the phase and amplitude of AVD-derived velocity time series induced by the earthquakes coincide with those derived from post-mission kinematic PPP approach. Even when coseismic displacements at some stations are occasionally not visible in the position time series, the velocity series can still clearly manifest the earthquake displacement signal. With the AVD approach, the precision and reliability of the real-time monitoring can be improved significantly. It is also indicated the velocity series can be used for fast post-earthquake assessment such as rapid determination of earthquake magnitude, locating epicenter, determining seismic wave propagation velocity and other earthquake studies. [Termes IGN] seuillage d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, we present a hybrid shadow-analysis approach that integrates the model- and property-based methods for detecting collapsed buildings after an earthquake using high-resolution satellite imagery. The framework of the proposed approach has four main steps. (1) The three-dimensional (3D) building model is established according to its footprint and height data stored in a geographical information system. (2) The theoretical shadow area of the building at the time that the post-seismic image was acquired is calculated. And the polygon of the ground shadow area of the building, which is called the theoretical ground shadow polygon, is extracted. (3) The theoretical ground shadow polygon is overlaid with the casting shadow area of the building, which is called the actual shadow area in the post-seismic satellite image, and the mean value of the digital number values of the post-seismic image pixels within the polygon of the theoretical shadow area is calculated. (4) The calculated mean value is compared with predefined thresholds, which are determined by the training pixels collected from the different types of shadows. On this basis, the shadows of totally collapsed, partially collapsed and uncollapsed buildings can be distinguished. A comprehensive experiment for Dujiangyan city, one of the urban areas most severely damaged in the May 2008 Wenchuan Earthquake, was conducted, and the experimental results showed the superiority of the proposed approach to the other existing ones. [Termes IGN] variogrammeRésumé : (Auteur) Geostatistical characterization of local DEM error is usually based on the assumption of a stationary variogram model which requires the mean and variance to be finite and constant in the area under investigation. However, in practice this assumption is appropriate only in a restricted spatial location, where the local experimental variograms vary slowly. Therefore, an adaptive method is developed in this article to model non-stationary variograms, for which the estimator and the indicator for characterization of spatial variation are a Voronoi map and the standard deviation of mean values displayed in the Voronoi map, respectively. For the adaptive method, the global domain is divided into different meshes with various sizes according to the variability of local variograms. The adaptive method of non-stationary variogram modeling is applied to simulating error surfaces of a LiDAR derived DEM located in Sichuan province, China. Results indicate that the locally adaptive variogram model is more accurate than the global one for capturing the characterization of spatial variation in DEM errors. The adaptive model can be considered as an alternative approach to modeling non-stationary variograms for DEM error surface simulation.
