[Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (auteur) This research presents the formalization and verification of the methodology for the automatic generalization of buildings, road networks, forests and surface waters from the Topographic Objects Database (BDOT10k) in Poland. The article makes the following contributions. First, the generalization methodology contained in the official documents was acquired and presented in the form of the knowledge base. Second, the possibilities and limitations of the implementation of the knowledge base in ArcGIS were discussed. Third, the suitability of the BDOT10k structure for the purpose of automatic generalization performance was verified. As a result of the conducted generalization tests, it was found that the formalization and implementation of the methodology contained in the official specifications, in the automatic mode are not entirely possible. The generalization results, however, are promising. The presented research is in line with the studies recently conducted not only by Polish but also other European National Mapping Agencies. [Termes IGN] urbanismeRésumé : (auteur) Computational models have been described as exceptionally adept at examining the complex relationships of human and crowd behaviour, with a significant portion dedicated to investigating spatial behaviour in defined environments. Within this context, this paper presents an agent-based model (ABM) for simulating activity in public spaces at the level of the individual user. Although other ABMs of individuals' spatial activity exist, they are often found to simulate specific building-related activities, and fewer still are found to examine activity in public spaces, in a systematic manner. This research provides a generalized formalization of human spatial behaviour incorporating stationary activities and social interaction within a 3D environment, and is presented using a widely accepted framework for describing ABM, the Overview, Design Concepts, and Details (ODD) protocol. A sample study using a synthetic environment is used to demonstrate applicability, and the model is tested extensively to establish robustness. Furthermore, model output is compared to observed activity patterns in other studies of similar spaces, and simulated spatial patterns of activity are found to match those observed in real-world scenarios, providing insight into the dynamics of the processes, and highlighting the potential of this approach for studying the complexities of human spatial behaviour. Big data can advance the identification of activity spaces and the understanding of spatial equity. Using the Los Angeles metropolitan area for the case study, this paper employs geotagged Twitter data to delineate activity spaces with two spatial measures: first, the average distance between users’ home location and activity locations; and second, the area covered between home and activity locations. The paper also finds significant relationship between the spatial measures of activity spaces and neighborhood spatial and socioeconomic characteristics. This research enriches the literature that aims to address spatial equity in activity spaces and demonstrates the applicability of big data in urban socio-spatial research. [Termes IGN] valeur aberranteRésumé : (auteur) Individual roof plane extraction from Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) point-cloud data is a complex and difficult task because of unknown semantic characteristics and inharmonious behaviour of input data. Most of the existing state-of-the-art methods fail to detect small true roof planes with exact boundaries due to outliers, occlusions, complex building structures, and other inconsistent nature of LiDAR data. In this paper, we have presented an improved building detection and roof plane extraction method, which is less sensitive to the outliers and unlikely to generate spurious planes. For this, a robust outlier detection algorithm has been proposed in this paper along with a robust plane-fitting algorithm based on M-estimator SAmple Consensus (MSAC) for detecting individual roof planes. Using two benchmark datasets (Australian and International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing benchmark) with different numbers of buildings and sizes, trees and point densities, we have evaluated the proposed method. Experimental results show that the method removes outliers and vegetation almost accurately and offers a high success rate in terms of completeness and correctness (between 80% and 100% per-object) for both roof plane extraction and building detection. In most of the cases, the proposed method shows above 90% correctness. [Termes IGN] web 2.0Résumé : (auteur) Volunteered geographical information (VGI) refers to geographical information that the general public voluntarily collects and shares in the environment instead of for-profit businesses or government entities. Crowdsourcing such information on urgent needs in a disaster can improve the quick emergency responses. This study incorporates the capability of smartphone sensors, GPS, Web 2.0, VGI, and server-based technologies to design and develop a system for collecting target hazard information from volunteers. One of the most important contributions in designing this system is considering the improvement of the positional accuracy of the target buildings based on the position of the mobile device. Several approaches have been recommended for this purpose. The solutions include the use of online map services, geocoding services, and trigonometric methods based on the measurements of sensors such as camera, accelerometer, and magnetic field embedded in a smart mobile phone. The accuracy assessment showed that the trigonometric method by the means of embedded sensors would yield the best result. However, geocoding is more economical in terms of time than other methods. Potentially, the evaluation of the mobile application provided by a group of volunteers showed the overwhelming preference of crowdsource mapping over current telephone communication systems in disaster management.
