[Termes IGN] villeRésumé : (Auteur) This article describes the outcomes of an international workshop on urban remote sensing. The workshop synthesized the needs of remote sensing scientists to better monitor and analyse urban physical and social dynamics. The workshop was held with urban land use forecasting workshop in April 2011 in Arizona. The four major themes of the jointly held workshops were application, data, scale and case studies. Application refers to how data are used to address urban problems. Data refers to the sources and types of raw data available. Scale is the ever-present concern over data reduction and resolution. Case studies examine a single urban area, typically based on one or two primary themes. One outcome was to integrate multiple case studies to form an urban typology. To respond to this need, this article integrates two case studies on the urban heat island in Atlanta, GA and Phoenix, AZ based on the four themes. [Termes IGN] variable aléatoireRésumé : (Auteur) As an object moves through space, it creates a track (or path) representing the object's past and present position and associated attributes. If data capture falls, then positions along the tracks are unknown. The particular problem we address in this paper is to create tracks of moving objects with missing data. We implement and test two techniques that create continuous tracks of two primate species (Ateles geoffroyi, the red spider monkey, and Cebus capucinus, the whitefaced capuchin). Continuous tracks were needed to calculate home range and to analyze daily ranging patterns for each species. Establishing continuous tracks of primates through field data alone, however, was impossible due to challenging field conditions. The results of the analysis using tracks with interpolated positions helped establish that Ateles tend to move directly to their destination while Cebus tended to follow a more wandering track. [Termes IGN] surface (géométrie)Résumé : (Auteur) We introduce and test an algorithm for extracting highpoint locations from statistical surface data. The algorithm uses map algebra and local neighbourhood analysis via three key parameters: minimum vertical gain, vertical gain neighbourhood, and horizontal separation neighbourhood. Though the method is applicable to any x,y,z data set, we tested it on 1:250,000 digital elevation models (DEMs) for Arizona. The resulting high points were compared quantitatively with an independent data set of named summits from the USGS Geographic Names Information System (GNIS). The comparison showed that, on an aggregate basis, the extraction method can approximate the number and spatial pattern of high points when compared to the GN IS points. However, extraction by neighbourhood analysis may consistently misdiagnose certain features, such as the edges of troughs (e.g., canyon rims).
