As an example, random forest (RF) ensemble algorithm was implemented in Pendik district of Istanbul to evaluate the prediction performance by using thematic datasets compatible with the data model. This study provides a methodology for various urban applications and robustness of the algorithm increases the prediction of the real estate values with the use of qualified datasets. Using MODIS-based data for the year 2017, multiple procedures were applied: one-way analysis of variance followed by comparison between means, Pearson correlation coefficient, global Moran’s index, simple linear regression, second-order polynomial regression, recursive-partitioning regression and geographically weighted regression. The results showed that land cover explained fair amount of the variability in NDVI but small amount of the variability in daytime and nighttime LST. In addition, an inverted surface urban heat island pattern was observed in daytime. Finally, applying different regression procedures produced different perspectives about the complex and variable relationships between daytime and nighttime LST and NDVI in different seasons. [Termes IGN] variation temporelleRésumé : (auteur) Water vapor plays an important role in Earth’s weather and climate processes and energy transfer. Plenty of techniques have developed to monitor precipitable water vapor (PWV), but joint use of different techniques has some problems, including systematic biases, different spatiotemporal coverages and resolutions among different datasets. To address the above problems and improve the data utilization, we propose to use a generalized regression neural network (GRNN) to fuse PWVs from Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), Moderate-Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), and European Centre for Medium‐Range Weather Forecasts Reanalysis 5 (ERA5). The core idea of this method is to use the high-quality GNSS PWV to calibrate and optimize the relatively low-quality MODIS and ERA5 PWV through the constructed GRNNs. Using the proposed method, we generated more than 400 PWV maps that combine GNSS, MODIS, and ERA5 PWVs in North America in 2018. Results show that the overall bias, standard deviation (STD), and root-mean-square (RMS) error are 0.0 mm, 2.1 mm, and 2.2 mm for the improved MODIS PWV, and 0.0 mm, 1.6 mm, and 1.6 mm for the improved ERA5 PWV. Compared to the original MODIS and ERA5 PWV, the total improvements are 37.1% and 15.8% in terms of RMS. The RMS improvements are mainly contributed from the calibration of bias for the MODIS PWV and optimization for the ERA5 PWV. It also demonstrates that the original MODIS PWV tends to be greater than the GNSS PWV while the ERA5 PWV has very small biases. After calibration and optimization, the correlation coefficients between the modified PWV and the GNSS PWV are 0.96 for the MODIS PWV and 0.98 for the ERA5 PWV. The proposed method also diminishes the temporal and spatial variations in accuracy, generating homogeneous PWV products. Since the biases among the three datasets are well removed and data accuracies are improved to the same level, they are thus easily fused and jointly used. Beirut city, Lebanon, was one of the unfortunate regions to endure the horrific ordeal of an unexpected explosion that caused thousands of human casualties, billions of dollars’ worth of property damage, and destroyed its main maritime entry point. In this paper, we identify damaged regions and classify their severity using a simple and robust SAR correlation technique. We employ phase coherence and amplitude correlation of a SAR stack to estimate pixels’ damage probability using hypothesis testing. We use a spatial phase filter applied in the frequency domain to improve the estimated coherence by removing the spatial decorrelation component of the total estimated coherence. Using this filter improved the coherence of nearly 44.2% of pixels identified with coherence less than 0.25 in our study area. The estimated damaged regions are presented and compared against a damage map issued by Advanced Rapid Imaging and Analysis (ARIA) which shows an average agreement of 68.3%. Also, a fine agreement was observed when compared to optical satellite images. [Termes IGN] variance de phaseRésumé : (Auteur) Many modern phased-array radars (PARs) are multichannel systems that include multiple receivers for data acquisition. Each channel provides a signal from a group of Transmit/Receive modules comprising a section of the antenna. Channels typically consist of a full receive path, often with an independent local oscillator (LO) clock source. Such arrangement provides for beamforming flexibility on receive which can be applied in a digital domain. Consequently, the channel-to-channel phase and magnitude alignment is critical to maximizing the performance of the digital beamforming process and the accuracy of resulting detections and measurements. Herein, a novel method to improve such alignment using weather returns and achieve the improvement in the polarimetric variable estimates is described.
