[Termes IGN] Terre (planète)Résumé : (auteur) In the framework of activities of the International Earth Rotation and Reference Systems Service (IERS) Combination Research Centres (CRC), the French Groupe de Recherche en Géodésie Spatiale (GRGS) studies the benefit of combining four geodetic techniques (SLR, VLBI, GPS and DORIS) at the measurement level in order to obtain a global and consistent solution for Earth Orientation Parameters (EOPs): polar motion xp and yp, universal time UT and celestial pole offsets in longitude and obliquity dψ and dǫ with a six-hour sampling, as well as weekly station positions. A one-year test period (the year 2002) has been chosen to prove the power of such a combination moreover worked out in a homogeneous global terrestrial reference frame. All techniques were processed in the same computational framework (GINS/DYNAMO) so with the same a priori models and a priori values for parameters. The optimal relative weights between each geodetic technique were obtained with an optimal variance component estimation method. It was realized in the construction of the "GEodetic MObile Solar Spectrometer" (GEMOSS), which allows the simultaneous measurement of numerous single vibrational-rotational absorption lines in the wide wavelength range between 728 nm and 915 nm.
In order to achieve the wide wavelength range and the envisaged high measurement accuracy, a new optical layout of a high-resolution echelle spectrograph was applied. Furthermore, its instrumental characteristics were determined and considered in the analysis and simulation of the spectrum. Therefore, investigations were carried out concerning hardware requirements, appropriate spectral intervals, stabilization of the wavelength scale, determination of the apparatus function and stray light. In addition to the theoretical aspects of molecular absorption and emission in Earth's atmosphere, the meteorological model, ray tracing and the current state of molecular spectroscopie databases were examined. Furthermore, an algorithm for retrieving the integrated precipitable water vapor (PW) from GEMOSS spectra was developed. It is based on the "Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy" (DOAS) and includes the simulation of synthetic solar spectra. For the simulation the line strength parameters of H20 absorption lines were taken frorn the molecular spectroscopie database by the European Space Agency (ESA). Although the line strength parameters, which have a large impact on the accuracy of the simulated spectra and the retrieved PW, were improved during the last years, they still reveal significant errors. The wide spectral range of GEMOSS enables the accurate correction of those parameters using solar spectra measured at atmospheric conditions controlled by radiosonde soundings and a water vapor radiometer (WVR). For this purpose, a dedicated campaign was carried out at the meteorological station at Payerne (Switzerland) in May and June 2004. CEMOSS and a co-located WVR were deployed next to a Global Positioning Systern (GPS) receiver of the Automated GPS Network of Switzerland (AGNES). The acquired dataset was utilized to improve line strength parameters of 69 individual transitions of the H20 molecule between 732 mn and 906 nm.
In order to validate the performance of GEMOSS, a long-term series of PW was acquired at ETH Hönggerberg where a permanent GPS station (AGNES) is operated. With the utilization of up to 40 selected H20 absorption lines measured at the same time, an accuracy of the PW of 0.5 kg/m can be achieved. The comparison between GEMOSS and GPS revealed that GPS over-estimated the PW during the summer 2003 by about 2-3 kg/m . The same discrepancies were observed at Payerne in 2004 by comparing the GPS results with GEMOSS, WVR and radiosondes.
In the framework of the EU-project "GAVDOS", GEMOSS was operated under the track of the altimeter satellite Jason at Rethimnon (Crete, Greece) and at Fiskardo on the island of Kefalonia (Greece) in January and September in 2003. The highly precise PW measurements of GEMOSS were used to calibrate the on-board microwave radiometer of Jason (JMR). The integrated water vapor content which was simultaneously determined by GEMOSS and JMR agree at the 0.3-0.4 kg/m level. On the basis of these promising results GEMOSS can be considered as a novel portable tool for space-borne radiometer calibration and it will be deployed for further calibration of Jason in the future.

The reference frames used in the Netherlands are the Rijksdriehoekmeting (RD) for locations and the Normaal Amsterdamse Peil (NAP) for heights. The RD has traditionally been managed by the Kadaster; the NAP by Rijkswaterstaat. The emergence of satellite positioning has resulted in drastic changes to these geodetic reference frames. A surveyor is now offered on, instrument, GPS (the Global Positioning System). capable of the simultaneous determination of locations and heights. This is possible by virtue of one three-dimensional geodetic reference system the European Terrestrial Reference System (ETRS89) which in the Netherlands is maintained in a collaborative arrangement between the Kadaster and Rijkswaterstaat. GPS has been advanced as a practical measurement technique by linking the definition of the RD grid to ETRS89. Nevertheless the introduction of GPS also revealed distortions in the RD grid, which are modelled in the RDNAPTRANS™ 2004 transformation. Furthermore, the use of the geoid model has become essential to the use of GPS in determining the height in comparison to NAP. Subsidence that has disrupted the backbone of the NAP gave cause to the need for a large-scale adjustment of the heights of the underground benchmarks and, in so doing, of the grid. Consequently new NAP heights have been introduced at the beginning of 2005 ; a new definition of the RID grid that had already been introduced in 2000 was once again modified in 2004. During the past few years two NCG subcommissions have devoted a great deal of time to these modifications. This publication lays down ETRS89, the RD and the NAP, together with their mutual relationships. In addition to reviewing the history of the reference frames and the manner inwhich they are maintained (including, for example, the use of AGRS.NL as the basis for the Dutch geometric infrastructure), the publication also discusses the status of the frames as at 1 January 2005. This encompasses the realisation of ETRS89 via AGRS.NL, the revision and new definition of the RD grid in 2004, and the new NAP publication in 2005. The publication also describes the mutual relationships between the frames in the modernized RDNAPTRANS™ 2004 transformation consisting of the new NLGE02004 geoid model and a model for the distortions of the RD grid. In conclusion, the publication also devotes attention to the future maintenance of the ETRS89, RD and NAP. The continuity of the Iink between the traditional frames and the three-dimensional frames is of great importance, and ETRS89 will continue to fulfil this linking role. The GPS base network and AGRS.NL reference stations will increasingly assume the leading role in the maintenance of the RD frame. The maintenance of the NAP will continue to be necessary, although during the coming decades the primary heights will not need revision. In so doing the high quzlity of the geodetic reference frames required for their use in actual practice will continue to be guaranteed.
