While there is numerous prior work on reconstructing cloud-covered information, previous studies are, oftentimes, confined to narrowly defined regions of interest, raising the question of whether an approach can generalize to a diverse set of observations acquired at variable cloud coverage or in different regions and seasons. We target the challenge of generalization by curating a large novel data set for training new cloud removal approaches and evaluate two recently proposed performance metrics of image quality and diversity. Our data set is the first publically available to contain a global sample of coregistered radar and optical observations, cloudy and cloud-free. Based on the observation that cloud coverage varies widely between clear skies and absolute coverage, we propose a novel model that can deal with either extreme and evaluate its performance on our proposed data set. Finally, we demonstrate the superiority of training models on real over synthetic data, underlining the need for a carefully curated data set of real observations. To facilitate future research, our data set is made available online. [Vedettes matières IGN] Végétation et changement climatiqueRésumé : (auteur) In a changing climate, forest managers need to select productive and climate-change-resilient tree species and provenances. Therefore, assessing the growth response of provenances growing in field trials to climate provides useful information for identifying the more appropriate provenance or variety. To determine the genetic gain through selection of the most productive and resilient families and to decipher the role of crown forms of Norway spruces (Picea abies (L.) Karst.), we used 24 families with a classical crown (pyramidalis) and 24 with a narrow crown (pendula) from eight provenances, growing in a 25-year-old comparative trial. The annual wood characteristics (ring width and early- and latewood), the wood resistance (expressed by latewood proportion (LWP)), and the growth response to climate of the two spruce crown forms were investigated. No significant differences between the two spruce forms were found regarding the ring width characteristics. However, three pendula families of Stâna de Vale I provenance exhibited the highest LWP and could be included in a future selection strategy, the respective trait having also high heritability. Radial growth was positively and significantly correlated with previous September and current July precipitation and negatively with current June temperature. Both spruce forms showed good recovery capacity after a drought event. [Termes IGN] science citoyenneRésumé : (auteur) Recent advancements in spatial modelling and mapping methods have opened up new horizons for monitoring the migration of bird species, which have been altered due to the climate change. The rise of citizen science has also aided the spatiotemporal data collection with associated attributes. The biodiversity data from citizen observatories can be employed in machine learning algorithms for predicting suitable environmental conditions for species’ survival and their future migration behaviours. In this study, different environmental variables effective in birds’ migrations were analysed, and their habitat suitability was assessed for future understanding of their responses in different climate change scenarios. The Jacobin cuckoo (Clamator jacobinus) was selected as the subject species, since their arrival to India has been traditionally considered as a sign for the start of the Indian monsoon season. For suitability predictions in current and future scenarios, maximum entropy (Maxent) modelling was carried out with environmental variables and species occurrences observed in India and Africa. For modelling, the correlation test was performed on the environmental variables (bioclimatic, precipitation, minimum temperature, maximum temperature, precipitation, wind and elevation). The results showed that precipitation-related variables played a significant role in suitability, and through reclassified habitat suitability maps, it was observed that the suitable areas of India and Africa might decrease in future climatic scenarios (SSPs 2.6, 4.5, 7.0 and 8.5) of 2030 and 2050. In addition, the suitability and unsuitability areas were calculated (in km2) to observe the subtle changes in the ecosystem. Such climate change studies can support biodiversity research and improve the agricultural economy. Given the complexity of the urban scenes, urban remote sensing observation requires data with a high temporal resolution, high spatial resolution, and high spectral resolution. To the best of our knowledge, however, no satellite owns all the above characteristics. Thus, it is necessary to coordinate data from existing remote sensing satellites to meet the needs of urban observation. In this study, we abstracted the urban remote sensing observation process and proposed an urban spatio-temporal-spectral observation model, filling the gap of no existing urban remote sensing framework. In this study, we present four applications to elaborate on the specific applications of the proposed model: 1) a spatio-temporal fusion model for synthesizing ideal data, 2) a spatio-spectral observation model for urban vegetation biomass estimation, 3) a temporal-spectral observation model for urban flood mapping, and 4) a spatio-temporal-spectral model for impervious surface extraction. We believe that the proposed model, although in a conceptual stage, can largely benefit urban observation by providing a new data fusion paradigm. Some factors that may influence the gravity readings are corrected by the instrument’s software. In this paper, the effects of the ambient temperature and humidity changes on the CG-6’s gravity measurements were investigated with the aim of reducing the uncertainty which remains in gravity measurements in microgal level, and giving recommendations for more accurate results. A controlled heating experiment was used to determine the impact of ambient temperature on gravity and 12 hours of continuous gravity observations were used to identify the impact of humidity on gravity measurements. It was observed that the sensor temperature and the gravity reading were highly correlated with the ambient temperature. The linear correlation with R2 > 0.94 and R2 > 0.90 were found for the corrected gravity reading and the residual sensor temperature variations respectively with the ambient temperature when heating. It was demonstrated that the calculated ambient temperature correction, −0.0011 mGal/oC, is more stable than the correction given by the instrument in terms of standard deviation though the impact of humidity on gravity reading was not clear.
