[Termes IGN] signal laserRésumé : (Auteur) This article presents the use of new remote sensing data acquired from airborne full-waveform lidar systems for hydrological applications. Indeed, the knowledge of an accurate topography and a landcover classification is a prior knowledge for any hydrological and erosion model. Badlands tend to be the most significant areas of erosion in the world with the highest erosion rate values. Monitoring and predicting erosion within badland mountainous catchments is highly strategic due to the arising downstream consequences and the need for natural hazard mitigation engineering.
Additionally, beyond the elevation information, full-waveform lidar data are processed to extract the amplitude and the width of echoes. They are related to the target reflectance and geometry. We will investigate the relevancy of using lidar-derived Digital Terrain Models (DTMs) and the potentiality of the amplitude and the width information for 3-D landcover classification. Considering the novelty and the complexity of such data, they are presented in details as well as guidelines to process them. The morphological validation of DTMs is then performed via the computation of hydrological indexes and photo-interpretation. Finally, a 3-D landcover classification is performed using a Support Vector Machine classifier. The use of an ortho-rectified optical image in the classification process as well as full-waveform lidar data for hydrological purposes is finally discussed.

[Termes IGN] teneur totale en électronsRésumé : (Auteur) The main scope of this research is to assess the ultimate accuracy that can be achieved for the slant total electron content (sTEC) estimated from dual-frequency global positioning system (GPS) observations which depends, primarily, on the calibration of the inter-frequency biases (IFB). Two different calibration approaches are analyzed: the so-called satellite-by-satellite one, which involves levelling the carrier-phase to the code-delay GPS observations and then the IFB estimation; and the so-called arc-by-arc one, which avoids the use of code-delay observations but requires the estimation of arc-dependent biases. Two strategies are used for the analysis: the first one compares calibrated sTEC from two co-located GPS receivers that serve to assess the levelling errors; and the second one, assesses the model error using synthetic data free of calibration error, produced with a specially developed technique. The results show that the arc-by-arc calibration technique performs better than the satellite-by-satellite one for mid-latitudes, while the opposite happens for low-latitudes. This article addresses the issue of modelling mudslide-susceptible locations using an information value approach. Landsat 7 (ETM+) was employed to create a land-use map with limited field checks. Other parameters considered were lineament, road, soil, stream network and lithology. Topographic parameters such as slope and aspect play a dominant role in slope stability studies. Maps for slope and aspects were developed from a digital elevation model using statistical surface interpolation techniques. This article offers insight into the importance of the selection of suitable surface interpolation techniques. The three surface interpolation techniques evaluated in the study were: inverse distance weighted, Kriging and Spline. These were found to have varied accuracies of interpolation surfaces for all parameters, including elevation, slope and aspect. Surfaces offering the best accuracy were adopted for the information value approach for mudslide susceptibility zonation.
