[Termes IGN] vitesseRésumé : (auteur) Avalanche flow models are important tools for avalanche risk mitigation. Artificial avalanche release can provide data for validation of flow models as for example the run-out distance reached by the avalanche. Here we attempt to measure in time the position and velocity of the front of the avalanche in order to provide dynamic data for model calibration. Experiments have been carried out on the full-scale avalanche experimental site at Lautaret pass (French Alps). High speed terrestrial photogrammetry is used to obtain Digital Elevation Models (DEM) during an avalanche release. Recent advances in digital commercial cameras allow acquiring up to 4 frames per second with 10-20 Mpixels of resolution. The principal point position, the focal length and the lens distortion are obtained from calibration, indicating negligible pincushion distortion but significant lens decentration. The camera calibration parameters enable to triangulate two stereo-pairs on ground control points within 6 cm of orientation residuals. A specific DEM generated for comparison with a laser scan DEM reveals a ± 11 cm of random error but no systematic discrepancy. Finally, avalanche front positions and velocities are calculated from a 30 s sequence of stereo pairs acquired during an artificial release with 2 cameras synchronized with digital wireless radio transceivers. [Termes IGN] reconstruction 3D du bâtiRésumé : (auteur) This paper presents a model-based approach for reconstructing 3D polyhedral building models from aerial images. The proposed approach exploits some geometric and photometric properties resulting from the perspective projection of planar structures. Data are provided by calibrated aerial images. The novelty of the approach lies in its featurelessness and in its use of direct optimization based on image rawbrightness. The proposed framework avoids feature extraction and matching. The 3D polyhedral model is directly estimated by optimizing an objective function that combines an image-based dissimilarity measure and a gradient score over several aerial images. The optimization process is carried out by the Differential Evolution algorithm. The proposed approach is intended to provide more accurate 3D reconstruction than feature-based approaches. Fast 3D model rectification and updating can take advantage of the proposed method. Several results and evaluations of performance from real and synthetic images show the feasibility and robustness of the proposed approach. [Termes IGN] Triangulated Irregular NetworkRésumé : (Auteur) This paper reports an investigation into the generalization of a grid-based digital elevation model (DEM) for the purpose of terrain analysis. The focus is on the method of restructuring the grid-based surface elevation data to form a triangulated irregular network (TIN) that is optimized to keep the important terrain features and slope morphology with the minimum number of sample points. The critical points of the terrain surface are extracted from the DEM based on their significance, measured not only by their local relief, but also by their importance in identifying inherent geomorphological and drainage features in the DEM. A compound method is proposed by integrating the traditional point-additive and feature-point methods to construct a drainage-constrained TIN. The outcome is then compared with those derived from other selected methods including filtering, point-additive or feature-point algorithms. The results show that the compound approach is capable of taking advantage of both point-additive and feature-point algorithms to maximally keep the terrain features and to maintain RMSE at an acceptable level, while reducing the elevation data points by over 99%. The analytical result also shows that the proposed method outperforms the compared methods with better control in retaining drainage features at the same level of RMSE. [Termes IGN] tâche image d'un pointRésumé : (auteur) This paper proposes a method to estimate the local sharpness of an optical system through the wavelet-based analysis of a large set of images it acquired. Assuming a space-invariant distribution of image features, such as in the aerial photography context, the proposed approach produces a sharpness map of the imaging device over 16x16 pixels blocks that enables, for instance, the detection of optical defects and the qualification of the mosaicking of multiple sensor images into a larger composite image. The proposed analysis is based on accumulating of the edge maps corresponding to the first levels of the Haar Transform of each image of the dataset, following the intuition that statistically, each pixel will see the same image structures. We propose a calibration method to transform these accumulated edge maps into a sharpness map by approximating the local PSF (Point Spread Function) with a Gaussian blur.
