[Vedettes matières IGN] Inventaire forestierRésumé : (auteur) Remote sensing using unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) -borne sensors is currently a highly interesting approach for the estimation of forest characteristics. 3D remote sensing data from airborne laser scanning or digital stereo photogrammetry enable highly accurate estimation of forest variables related to the volume of growing stock and dimension of the trees, whereas recognition of tree species dominance and proportion of different tree species has been a major complication in remote sensing-based estimation of stand variables. In this study, the use of UAV-borne hyperspectral imagery was examined in combination with a high-resolution photogrammetric canopy height model in estimating forest variables of 298 sample plots. Data were captured from eleven separate test sites under weather conditions varying from sunny to cloudy and partially cloudy. Both calibrated hyperspectral reflectance images and uncalibrated imagery were tested in combination with a canopy height model based on RGB camera imagery using the k-nearest neighbour estimation method. The results indicate that this data combination allows accurate estimation of stand volume, mean height and diameter: the best relative RMSE values for those variables were 22.7%, 7.4% and 14.7%, respectively. In estimating volume and dimension-related variables, the use of a calibrated image mosaic did not bring significant improvement in the results. In estimating the volumes of individual tree species, the use of calibrated hyperspectral imagery generally brought marked improvement in the estimation accuracy; the best relative RMSE values for the volumes for pine, spruce, larch and broadleaved trees were 34.5%, 57.2%, 45.7% and 42.0%, respectively. [Termes IGN] structure-from-motionRésumé : (Auteur) Three-dimensional (3D) documentation of heritage buildings has long employed both image-based and range-based techniques. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) provide a particular advantage for image-based techniques in acquiring aerial views, which are difficult to attain using classical terrestrial-based methods. The technological development of optical sensors and dense matching algorithms also complement existing photogrammetric workflows for the documentation of heritage objects. In this paper, fundamental concepts in photogrammetry and 3D reconstruction based on structure from motion (SfM) will be briefly reviewed. Two case studies were performed using two types of UAVs, one being a state-of-the-art platform dedicated to obtaining close-range images. Comparisons with laser scanning data were performed and several issues regarding the aerial triangulation and dense matching results were assessed. The results show that although the dense matching of these UAV images may generate centimetre-level precision, a further increase in precision is often hampered by the quality of the onboard sensor. [Termes IGN] précision géométrique (imagerie)Résumé : (auteur) This article deals with the use of unmanned platforms of less than 2 kg in weight for the aerial image acquisition, its subsequent processing and the study of the precision reached in aerotrian-gulation, a step prior to obtaining the final products. This is done using a flight made on the ruins of the monastery of Toni Roden in Hoxter, Germany. The aerotriangulation of the fli-ght with photogrammetric software is carried out in ten different assumptions in order to verify the aerotriangulation quality of blocks of images captured with RPAS photogrammetric systems with standard no nmetric cameras, the accuracy of ae roclria n-g ul etion processing without points of control in the field, it is studied if the use of non-metric cameras affects the accuracy of the products, the quality of the digital surface models generated from the dense cloud of points is checked and the scopes of use of the photogrammetric RPAS systems (Remotely Piloted Aircraft System). As main conclusions can be highlighted that, with the software used, better results are obtained in the aerotriangula-tion and in the final products increasing the overlap to 80% and that the use of non-metric cameras does not affect the accuracy. [Termes IGN] reliefRésumé : (Auteur) Classification of land surface to landforms is fundamental to interpretation of various environmental processes. The heterogeneous landform descriptions and classification approaches, in combination with the scale dependence of digital elevation models (DEMs) and their products, defy the development of an interoperable and transferable automated landform classification approach. A theoretical framework has proposed that land surface should be regionalised to morphologic meaningful objects, delimited by discontinuities (i.e. slope breaks and inflections) and subsequently classified with morphometric and contextual criteria. However, an automated methodology meeting these conditions is still lacking. This study is an attempt to automate this framework through the investigation of a modified version of a spatially adaptive pattern-based approach and its potential to produce morphologic meaningful objects of various shapes and sizes, present at the given DEM resolution. These objects were classified to 15 landform element classes based on semantic descriptions, including criteria of morphometry, relative topographic position and topological relations. Results were visually analysed by draping them over DEMs and contours and quantitatively assessed with fuzzy classification tools. The modified pattern-based approach was proven to be efficient for delineation of morphologic meaningful objects in DEMs. The classification approach was transferable to various landscapes and DEM resolutions, given that it uses spatially flexible fuzzy criteria.
