[Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) In this paper, a novel building change detection approach is proposed using statistical region merging (SRM) and a shape context similarity model for Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data. First, digital surface models (DSMs) are generated from LiDAR acquired at two different epochs, and the difference data D-DSM is created by difference processing. Second, to reduce the noise and registration error of the pixel-based method, the SRM algorithm is applied to segment the D-DSM, and multi-scale segmentation results are obtained under different scale values. Then, the shape context similarity model is used to calculate the shape similarity between the segmented objects and the buildings. Finally, the refined building change map is produced by the k-means clustering method based on shape context similarity and area-to-length ratio. The experimental results indicated that the proposed method could effectively improve the accuracy of building change detection compared with some popular change detection methods. [Termes IGN] série temporelleRésumé : (auteur) The rise of Google Earth Engine, a cloud computing platform for spatial data, has unlocked seamless integration for multi-sensor and multi-temporal analysis, which is useful for the identification of land-cover classes based on their temporal characteristics. Our study aims to employ temporal patterns from monthly-median Sentinel-1 (S1) C-band synthetic aperture radar data and cloud-filled monthly spectral indices, i.e., Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Modified Normalized Difference Water Index (MNDWI), and Normalized Difference Built-up Index (NDBI), from Landsat 8 (L8) OLI for mapping rice cropland areas in the northern part of Central Java Province, Indonesia. The harmonic function was used to fill the cloud and cloud-masked values in the spectral indices from Landsat 8 data, and smile Random Forests (RF) and Classification And Regression Trees (CART) algorithms were used to map rice cropland areas using a combination of monthly S1 and monthly harmonic L8 spectral indices. An additional terrain variable, Terrain Roughness Index (TRI) from the SRTM dataset, was also included in the analysis. Our results demonstrated that RF models with 50 (RF50) and 80 (RF80) trees yielded better accuracy for mapping the extent of paddy fields, with user accuracies of 85.65% (RF50) and 85.75% (RF80), and producer accuracies of 91.63% (RF80) and 93.48% (RF50) (overall accuracies of 92.10% (RF80) and 92.47% (RF50)), respectively, while CART yielded a user accuracy of only 84.83% and a producer accuracy of 80.86%. The model variable importance in both RF50 and RF80 models showed that vertical transmit and horizontal receive (VH) polarization and harmonic-fitted NDVI were identified as the top five important variables, and the variables representing February, April, June, and December contributed more to the RF model. The detection of VH and NDVI as the top variables which contributed up to 51% of the Random Forest model indicated the importance of the multi-sensor combination for the identification of paddy fields. [Termes IGN] zone à risqueRésumé : (auteur) Iran is located on the Alpide earthquake belt, in the active collision zone between the Eurasian and Arabian plates. This issue makes Iran a country that suffers from geotechnical seismic hazards associated with frequent destructive earthquakes. Also, according to the rapid growth of population and demands for construction lifelines, risk assessment studies which should be carried out in order to reduce the probable damages are necessary. The most important destructive effects of earthquakes on lifelines are transient and permanent ground displacements. The availability of the map of the displacements caused by liquefaction, landslide, and surface fault rupture can be a useful reference for researchers and engineers who want to carry out a risk assessment project for each specific region of the country. In this study, these precise maps are produced and presented by using a considerable number of GIS-based analyses and by employing the HAZUS methodology. It is important to note that a required accuracy for risk assessment is approximately around the macro scale. So, in order to produce a suitable map for risk assessment goals, in terms of accuracy, the GIS-based analyses are employed to map all of Iran. [Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (auteur) By nature, slopes are conformed by forces that are in constant balance. Altering this natural balance causes the sliding of soil towards lower zones. Landslides are a constant danger that compromises the general welfare of society. Landslides mapping is especially important for urban areas or development plans. The innovative aspect of this study is the creation of the Topographic Connection Method (TPCM) to automatically map landslides using two types of landslides 1) falls and 2) flows. TPCM cartography results were compared to a previously proven method (Contour Connection Method), as well as to the manual inventory method. Each method was run four times to locate changes through time by using satellite imagery, digital elevations models and 3D relief visualizations with data covering a period from 2012 to 2017. Results showed both falls and flows with all three methods and demonstrated that TPCM can improve mapping accuracy by up to 14%. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser aéroportéRésumé : (auteur) The emerging single-photon laser scanning has made technological breakthrough in the collection of airborne laser scanning data. In principle, single-photon systems require only one detected photon for successful ranging. Further, the point density on the ground can be 10–100 times higher for single-photon lidar data than that obtained with multi-photon systems at the same flight altitude. This has great potential to reduce operation costs. Single-photon lidar technology is assumed to be the best for data acquisition when high point densities are required over very large areas, or when improvements in measurement rates can significantly reduce data acquisition costs, such as in nationwide laser scanning programmes, where the whole country is repeatedly covered with data every 5–10 years. This study investigates single-photon lidar and conventional multi-photon laser scanning data for their potential in characterizing ground and forest attributes. Performance is evaluated in a boreal forest by a comparative analysis, where single-photon lidar measurements with SPL100 (Leica/Hexagon) from two flight heights (1900 m and 3800 m) are compared with data from the Optech Titan (400 m) multi-photon airborne laser scanning (ALS) under summer conditions (i.e. leaves on). We found that SPL100 from both altitudes provides forest attribute estimates with comparable accuracy to that of Optech Titan from 400 m using an area-based method. This demonstrates that point density and flight altitude do not have significant impact on forest attribute estimation using the area-based approach. As a result, SPL100 is a cost-efficient alternative to a conventional laser scanner for forest inventories at large scale. There are systematic differences in behavior of the data sets due to differences in ranging sensitivity, beam size, and point density. We observed a higher proportion of ground returns in the SPL100 (3800 m) than in SPL100 (1900 m) data. Both SPL100 data in general produced a higher proportion of ground returns than Titan single channel did in structurally more homogeneous and one layer stands while higher proportion of ground returns from Titan than from SPL100 data in multi-layer stands. Forest structure and flight altitude has a notable impact on the distribution of points and further characteristics of the vertical structures. The pulse of Titan sensor penetrated deeper into the canopy than SPL100.
