[Termes IGN] précision des mesuresRésumé : (Auteur) Despite the relatively high cost of airborne lidar-derived digital elevation models (DEMs), such products are usually presented without a satisfactory associated estimate of accuracy. For the most part, DEM accuracy estimates are typically provided by comparing lidar heights against a finite sample of check point coordinates from an independent source of higher accuracy, supposing a normal distribution of the derived height differences or errors. This paper proposes a new methodology to assess the vertical accuracy of lidar DEMs using confidence intervals constructed from a finite sample of errors computed at check points. A non-parametric approach has been tested where no particular error distribution is assumed, making the proposed methodology especially applicable to non-normal error distributions of the type usually found in DEMs derived from lidar. The performance of the proposed model was experimentally validated using Monte Carlo simulation on 18 vertical error data-sets. Fifteen of these data-sets were computed from original lidar data provided by the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing Working Group III/3, using their respective filtered reference data as ground truth. The three remaining data-sets were provided by the Natural Environment Research Council's Airborne Research and Survey Facility lidar system, together with check points acquired using high precision kinematic GPS. The results proved promising, the proposed models reproducing the statistical behaviour of vertical errors of lidar using a favourable number of check points, even in the cases of data-sets with non-normally distributed residuals. This research can therefore be considered as a potentially important step towards improving the quality control of lidar-derived DEMs. Copyright RS&PS + Blackwell Publishing Numéro de notice : A2008-295 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article DOI : 10.1111/j.1477-9730.2008.00476.x En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1111/j.1477-9730.2008.00476.x Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=29288

[Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : Auteur) Growing demand for efficient land use above and below the ground motivates the transition of cadastre and land-management systems from traditional two-dimensional systems to three-dimensional ones. This transition is required especially in sprawling urban areas that are turning into megacities. A major concern in realizing the 3D cadastre vision is the development of efficient methods for attaching the third dimension to the existing 2D systems. In this regard, airborne laser technology that offers direct acquisition of dense and accurate 3D data appears to be the optimal means for this objective. Integration of surface data into objects and shapes, however, requires handling discrepancies between both datasets, which in turn can lead to incorrect assignment of height information. We present herein a methodology for fusing airborne laser-scanning-derived data into existing 2D cadastral systems. We demonstrate this integration in urban environments comprising high-rise buildings and open areas. Analysis of the data sources shows the necessity for such transformation, while the results demonstrate the appropriateness of the proposed fusion concept. [Termes IGN] visibilitéRésumé : (Auteur) Least visible path analysis is a basic function in terrain visibility analysis. However, current least visible path planning is constrained to least-cost path computing on a cost surface obtained from visibility information of all the terrain points on digital elevation models. This kind of method ignores the visibility correlation caused by the overlapped part of the adjacent points' reverse viewsheds. With regard to such a correlation, this paper proposes a new method using the amalgamation of reverse viewsheds to find an optimal path with the minimal visibility dominance. Both methods are implemented using C++ programming, and the experimental results show that the new method produces more accurate least visible paths than the traditional one does. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (Auteur) A lidar filtering technique is used to differentiate on-terrain points and off-terrain points from a cloud of 3D point data collected by a lidar system. A major issue of concern in this low-level filter is to design a methodology to ensure a continual adaptation to variations of terrain slopes and object scales. In this paper, a new lidar filtering technique which hierarchically fragments lidar data into piecewise planar terrain models is introduced. Once a number of hypothetical planar terrain models are generated to fit the terrain surface of the underlying area, the optimal terrain model to produce the minimum labelling errors is determined based on minimum description length (MDL) principles. This hypothesis-verification optimisation is achieved in a coarse-to-fine strategy by which the entire terrain surface is incrementally reconstructed by increasing the number of planar terrain models fitted. The proposed technique was successfully applied to a digital surface model provided within an OEEPE lidar trial, showing 0·94% of Type I errors and 6·75% of Type II errors compared to manually classified reference data. [Termes IGN] VidéogrammétrieRésumé : (Auteur) A monitoring system that uses applied geomatics techniques, including videogrammetry and terrestrial laser scanning, has been developed in order to investigate the dynamic behaviour of as-built membrane roof structures. To accommodate the problems involved in measuring such roof structures, examples of which include uniform surface texture and unreachable height, the system adopts a non-contact targeting methodology to substitute for traditional control techniques. In-house software was developed for processing the acquired video imagery in order to produce a sequential surface model of the membrane. This paper firstly reports on experiments conducted to demonstrate that the monitoring system was capable of measuring representative test structures with a precision of better than +1 mm. To prove the feasibility and transferability of the system, videogrammetric monitoring campaigns were subsequently performed at a real-world test site where two different types of membrane structure were observed. The sequential 3D surface models that were generated allowed the displacement of the membrane surfaces to be investigated over a period, during which the range of the movement reached over 20 mm. The information acquired from the system is proving to be of great value to structural engineers involved in research and development of such membrane structures.
