[Termes IGN] Moselle (57)Index. décimale : THESE Thèses et HDR Résumé : (Auteur) Cette thèse a formalisé les méthodes de présentation et d'interprétation des images de télédétection et des données auxiliaires, et a appliqué ces méthodes aux problèmes forestiers. En effet, si la télédétection est un outil moderne et efficace pour l'observation des terres émergées, elle pose des problèmes méthodologiques d'interprétation d'une part à cause de l'accès limité à un nombre restreint de mesures radiométriques qui synthétisent des processus physiques souvent complexes, d'autre part à cause de la variété des données exogènes qu'il faut inclure dans le processus d'analyse. Les méthodes proposées ont été appliquées à un massif forestier, car premièrement la forêt a un rôle économique et écologique considérable, deuxièmement l'aménagement forestier pose des problèmes que la télédétection peut aider à résoudre, troisièmement la forêt est un milieu complexe qui justifie des modes originaux de présentation visuelle des données et des images. Dans le travail présenté, des méthodes de la présentation visuelle de l'information ont été établies. Ainsi, premièrement, une passerelle entre la science de la perception visuelle et les techniques de la télédétection a été réalisée, en insistant plus particulièrement sur la description et l'interprétation des stimuli lumineux. Deuxièmement, la décorrélation a été proposée comme méthode originale de mise en valeur des images de télédétection. La décorrélation a élargi considérablement la palette des couleurs par rapport à une restitution en composante colorée classique, et a assuré une meilleure correspondance entre les variations de couleur et les variations d'information que les méthodes classiques comme l'analyse en composantes principales. Troisièmement, les principales idées de la sémiologie graphique ont été synthétisées pour la mise en valeur des données auxiliaires. L'application de ces méthodes à une image du capteur Thematic Mapper (TM), à un parcellaire forestier et à un modèle numérique de terrain, a conduit à des représentations efficaces et originales, et a facilité la reconnaissance de l'occupation des sols par photo-interprétation. De plus, la décorrélation a permis de proposer une méthode visuelle de supervision d'un processus de classification. L'application de cette supervision a permis d'une part l'élimination de parcelles d'entraînement aberrantes, d'autre part la définition d'une typologie. Les visualisations de qualité ont facilité également l'analyse de l'origine de la variabilité du signal capté. En effet, pour différentes classes de cibles réputées homogènes, la variabilité du signal a été représentée et analysée en fonction de la géométrie d'acquisition et de la longueur d'onde d'observation. Il a été ainsi montré que les hétérogénéités forestières sont le facteur principal de la variabilité du signal capté par TM en Juillet, sur une zone forestière présentant un relief moyen. De plus, les données radar, très bruitées, posent des problèmes méthodologiques originaux : le filtrage du bruit et l'analyse texturale en présence du bruit filtré ou non. Les deux meilleurs filtrages parmi dix ont été sélectionnés suivant des critères tant théoriques que pratiques. Il a été montré que les filtrages améliorent la discrimination des classes agricoles et forestières, mais perturbent une classification texturale postérieure. L'ensemble de cette étude a permis de discuter des sensibilités, et donc de l'adéquation, des bandes spectrales aux variables forestières, ainsi que des potentialités de la télédétection aux problèmes des forestiers. Il a été montré que la télédétection est une source complémentaire d'informations pour les forestiers, aussi bien pour la cartographie des peuplements que pour leur suivi. Finalement, les méthodologies employées ont été discutées. Bien que parfois subjectives et difficilement quantifiables, les améliorations ont été sensibles du point de vue de la rapidité et de la fiabilité de l'interprétation visuelle des données de télédétection.
