[Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) This paper discusses the interpretation and generalization of three-dimensional landscapes derived from laser scanning data. Airborne laser scanning systems provide an unparalleled detailed description of surfaces on a large scale. This level of detail, however, raises questions regarding the effective visual communication of the data. In this paper, we consider visualization from a cartographic perspective, particularly in terms of the generalization of details and enhancement of important features. Our goal is to visualize topography efficiently, while emphasizing such features as the road network. To achieve this, the communication of 3D landscapes has been implemented as a modular pipeline of individual, configurable processes, focusing on the interpretation of the laser dataset and its generalization. The raw laser point-cloud then becomes an input to a sequence of processes that result in a generalized topography. The interpretation process concerns the extraction of the terrain and the road network from the raw data. The generalization of the interpreted entities then follows. The application of the proposed model shows improved manifestation of the road network within the terrain. [Termes IGN] trafic routierRésumé : (Auteur) Finding an optimal route in dynamic real-time transportation networks is a critical problem for vehicle navigation. Existing approaches are either too complex or incapable of managing complex circumstances where both the location of a mobile object and traffic conditions change over time. In this paper, we propose an incremental search approach with novel heuristics based on a variation of the A* algorithm-Lifelong Planning A*. In addition, we suggest using an ellipse to prune the unnecessary nodes to be scanned in order to speed up the dynamic search process. The proposed algorithm determines the shortest-cost path between a moving object and its destination by continually adapting to the dynamic traffic conditions, while making use of the previous search results. Experimental results evince that the proposed algorithm performs significantly better than the well-known A* algorithm. [Termes IGN] sentierRésumé : (Auteur) The objective of this study was to evaluate image-based procedures for monitoring cross-border foot trails in the US - Mexico border zone in eastern San Diego County using airborne remote sensing techniques. Specifically, digital multi-spectral and multi-temporal imagery from an airborne digital multi-spectral imaging system, digital image processing, and visual image analysis techniques were explored in the context of detecting and delineating new trail features and updating trail GIS layers. Three trail updating approaches: map-to-image (M-I) overlay, map and image-to-image (M/I-I) differencing, map and image-to-image (M/I-I) swiping and two types of spectral transform, PCA and NDVI, were tested and compared. The M-I overlay was found to be the most reliable trail updating approach. The optimal image enhancement method for the M-I overlay approach varied with vegetation structure. PCA imagery yielded better results than NDVI imagery in a highly disturbed area and NDVI imagery performed better in a densely vegetated area. The M/I-I swiping approach was useful for distinguishing misregistered extant trails from new trail features. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) The lack of effective and efficient schedule-based pathfinding algorithms for transit networks has limited the application of GIS in transit trip planning services. This paper introduces a schedule-based path finding algorithm for transit networks. Based on a pattern-centered spatiotemporal transit network model, the algorithm searches the network by following route patterns. A pattern is a spatial layout of a route in transit terminology. A route usually has many patterns to serve various locations at different times. This path search algorithm is significantly different from traditional shortest path algorithms that are based on adjacent node search. By establishing a set of lemmas and theorems the paper proves that paths generated by the PFS algorithm are schedule-coordinated fastest paths for trips with given constraints. After analyzing computation and database query complexities of the algorithm the paper indicates that the PFS is efficient in computation and database query. Finally, effectiveness and efficiency of the algorithm are demonstrated by implementations in GIS-based online transit trip planners in Wisconsin, US.
