[Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a new method to simulate the evolution of multiple land uses based on the integration of neural networks and cellular automata using GIS. Simulation of multiple land use changes using cellular automata (CA) is difficult because numerous spatial variables and parameters have to be utilized. Conventional CA models have problems in defining simulation parameter values, transition rules and model structures. In this paper, a three-layer neural network with multiple output neurons is designed to calculate conversion probabilities for competing multiple land uses. The model involves iterative looping of the neural network to simulate gradual land use conversion processes. Spatial variables are not deterministic because they are dynamically updated at the end of each loop. A GIS is used to obtain site attributes and training data, and to provide spatial functions for constructing the neural network. The parameter values for modelling are automatically generated by the training procedure of neural networks. The model has been successfully applied to the simulation of multiple land use changes in a fast growing area in southern China. [Termes IGN] Normalized Difference Vegetation IndexRésumé : (Auteur) There is need to map indicators of biodiversity such as species richness and abundance of individuals in order to predict where species loss is occurring. Species richness and abundance have been hypothesized to increase with ecosystem productivity. Moreover, productivity of ecosystems varies in space and time, and this heterogeneity is also hypothesized to influence species richness and abundance of individuals. Ecosystem productivity may be estimated using remotely sensed data, and researchers have specifically proposed the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer-Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (AVHRR-NDVI). Interannual average NDw and its variability (standard deviation) were correlated with large mammal species richness and abundance of individuals at a landscape scale in Kenya. The biodiversity indicators associated negatively with interannual average NDW and positively with variability of NDvi. Understanding these relationships can help in estimating changes in mammalian species richness and abundance in response to global climate change. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (Auteur) The availability of hyperspectral images expands the capability of using image classification to study detailed characteristics of objects, but at a cost of having to deal with huge data sets. This work studies the use of the principal component analysis as a preprocessing technique for the classification of hyperspectral images. Two hyperspectral data sets, HYDICE and AVIRIS, were used for the study. A brief presentation of the principal component analysis approach is followed by an examination of the information contents of the principal component image bands, which revealed that only the first few bands contain significant information. The use of the first few principal component images can yield about 70 percent correct classification rate. This study suggests the benefit and efficiency of using the principal component analysis technique as a preprocessing step for the classification of' hyperspectral images. [Termes IGN] zone inondableRésumé : (Auteur) For at least 12,000 years, Amazonian floodplains (varzea) have been exploited by human populations. Although they represent a small fraction of the Amazon basin, floodplains contain the most productive ecosystems of the region. Easy access and the abundance of valuable forest products have historically led to higher human population densities and higher resource use than in many interfluvial areas. Recent research has brought attention to land-use and land-cover change in upland Amazonian forests, but relatively little research has been conducted on similar dynamics in the floodplains.
In this project, we used photointerpretation of 1970s aerial photographs and digital image classification of Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) 5 imugeiy from the 1990s to produce land-cover maps used for change detection analysis. A study area in the tidal floodplains of the State of Amapa, in the northern Brazilian Amazon, was evaluated. The accuracy of the Landsat TM classification and errors inherent to the techniques used were assessed. Several changes in the study site were observed, including increases in the areal extent of secondary growth and palm forests and corresponding decreases in intact varzea forest area.Numéro de notice : A2002-104 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article DOI : sans En ligne : https://www.asprs.org/wp-content/uploads/pers/2002journal/may/2002_may_463-472.p [...] Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=22019
