[Termes IGN] réalité de terrainRésumé : (auteur) Parsing facade images requires optimal handcrafted grammar for a given class of buildings. Such a handcrafted grammar is often designed manually by experts. In this paper, we present a novel framework to learn a compact grammar from a set of ground-truth images. To this end, parse trees of ground-truth annotated images are obtained running existing inference algorithms with a simple, very general grammar. From these parse trees, repeated subtrees are sought and merged together to share derivations and produce a grammar with fewer rules. Furthermore, unsupervised clustering is performed on these rules, so that, rules corresponding to the same complex pattern are grouped together leading to a rich compact grammar. Experimental validation and comparison with the state-of-the-art grammar-based methods on four different datasets show that the learned grammar helps in much faster convergence while producing equal or more accurate parsing results compared to handcrafted grammars as well as grammars learned by other methods. Besides, we release a new dataset of facade images following the Art-deco style and demonstrate the general applicability and extreme potential of the proposed framework. [Termes IGN] valeur moyenneRésumé : (Auteur) In this article we introduce the concept of midrange geometric constraints into semantic segmentation. We call these constraints ‘midrange’ since they are neither global constraints, which take into account all pixels without any spatial limitation, nor are they local constraints, which only regard single pixels or pairwise relations. Instead, the proposed constraints allow to discourage the occurrence of labels in the vicinity of each other, e.g., ‘wolf’ and ‘sheep’. ‘Vicinity’ encompasses spatial distance as well as specific spatial directions simultaneously, e.g., ‘plates’ are found directly above ‘tables’, but do not fly over them. It is up to the user to specifically define the spatial extent of the constraint between each two labels. Such constraints are not only interesting for scene segmentation, but also for part-based articulated or rigid objects. The reason is that object parts such as for example arms, torso and legs usually obey specific spatial rules, which are among the few things that remain valid for articulated objects over many images and which can be expressed in terms of the proposed midrange constraints, i.e. closeness and/or direction. We show, how midrange geometric constraints are formulated within a continuous multi-label optimization framework, and we give a convex relaxation, which allows us to find globally optimal solutions of the relaxed problem independent of the initialization. This study discusses the methods of remote sensing in visible and infrared (IR) wavelengths, which are helpful in providing important information about alpine glaciers. The scope of this study covers recent advances and prospects in optical and thermal remote sensing of glacier facies, glacier velocity, mass balance, glacial hazards and automated mapping techniques. The technology is ever evolving with the advent of new remote sensors capturing data in visible/IR wavelengths and better digital computing technology. An extensive list of significant studies further helps the reader to explore a particular topic of interest. We survey recent advances in this field and additionally highlight the emerging prospects. [Termes IGN] télédétectionRésumé : (Auteur) Sampling plays a critical role in remote sensing and signal analysis. In conventional sampling theory, the signal is sampled at a uniform rate at a minimum of twice the signal bandwidth. Sampling with an aperture function requires a fixed-aperture function, which can be removed by deconvolution after signal reconstruction. However, in some cases, the signal samples are available only at irregular positions, and different samples use different aperture functions. In this paper, the theory of finite-length signal reconstruction with irregular samples and variable apertures in one and two dimensions is considered. In the 1-D case, a band-limited discrete signal can be exactly reconstructed from a finite number of arbitrarily spaced samples with few restrictions on the aperture functions. Exact reconstruction in the 2-D case requires the sampling matrix be invertable, and is not always possible. Variable aperture functions, while complicating the process, can enable reconstruction for a broader range of sample locations. Practical issues are discussed, and numerical examples are provided. Variable aperture reconstruction has application in a variety of remote sensing problems. In this paper, reconstruction from 2-D irregular sampling with variable apertures is illustrated using Special Sensor Microwave/Imager radiometer observations.
