[Termes IGN] télédétection en hyperfréquenceRésumé : (Auteur) With the interdependencies that exist between data in a scientific processing pipeline, the ability to track the provenance of the scientific process through multiple stages is necessary to determining the usability of the resulting data product. In this paper, we study the capture of provenance from an existing NASA instrument ingest pipeline. Since instrumenting the scientific code for a production system is not feasible, we show how provenance events can be scavenged from log files to generate detailed provenance graphs. Through extensions to the Karma provenance system, which have been implemented on a test instance of the AMSR-E production data pipeline, we determine that when the volume of provenance information is high, provenance graph visualizations provide a good tool for monitoring the ingest pipeline and identifying processing differences in ways not seen before. Two novel uses of provenance that we present in this paper are comparisons between processing runs and forward provenance for viewing downstream dependencies. [Termes IGN] zonage (urbanisme)Résumé : (Auteur) This study uses accessibility as a performance measure to evaluate a matrix of future land use and network scenarios for planning purposes. The concept of accessibility dates to the 1950s, but this type of application to transportation planning is new. Previous research has established the coevolution of transportation and land use, demonstrated the dependence of accessibility on both, and made the case for the use of accessibility measures as a planning tool. This study builds off of these findings by demonstrating the use of accessibility-based performance measures in the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area. This choice of performance measure also allows for transit and highway networks to be compared side-by-side. For roadway modeling, zone-to-zone travel time matrix was computed using stochastic user equilibrium (SUE) assignment with travel time feedback to trip distribution. A database of schedules was used on the transit networks to assign transit routes. This travel time data was joined with the land use data from each scenario to obtain the employment, population, and labor accessibility from each traffic analysis zone (TAZ) within specified time ranges. Tables of person-weighted accessibility were computed for 20 minutes with zone population as the weight for employment accessibility and zone employment as the weight for population and labor accessibility. Maps of accessibility by zone were produced to show the spatial distribution of accessibility across the region. The results show that a scenario where population and employment growth are concentrated in the center of the metropolitan area would produce the highest accessibility no matter which transportation network changes are made. However, another scenario which concentrates population growth in the center of the metropolitan area and shifts employment growth to the periphery consistently outperforms the scenario representing the projected 2030 land use without any growth management strategy. How to deal with the shrinking issue, and any problems caused by its chain effects, still remains a challenge for researchers from various disciplines. In this paper, Japan’s shrinking phenomena is analyzed based on a case study of Katsuura City. Changes in land use, population, industry, and residential preferences are detected through an analysis of census data, land-use maps and questionnaire surveys. On the basis of this analysis, a simulation model consisting of a land-use change model generated by rent-gap theory-based cellular automata combined with a residential migration decision model based on a multinomial logit model is built to project the current pattern of shrinkage in the case study area, and in order to compare various policy scenarios. [Termes IGN] température de luminanceRésumé : (Auteur) Measurements of both the Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) and Aquarius L-band microwave radiometers show a significant presence of radio frequency interference (RFI), although they operate in a protected frequency band where transmission is prohibited. RFI detection and mitigation remain a challenging problem for both missions, especially for low or moderate (i.e., on the order of 10 K or less) amplitude contributions. An algorithm for low-level source detection and mitigation is already included in Aquarius data sets, and both Aquarius and SMOS have distinct attributes that can potentially enable further improvements in detection and mitigation of these sources to some degree. The combination of SMOS and Aquarius data sets may enable further future improvements as well. Initial efforts toward this goal are reported in this paper. Similarities and differences in RFI effects on SMOS and Aquarius are examined, with a particular focus on instrument properties that cause differences in received RFI power in SMOS and Aquarius observations of a specific source. A study is also performed of SMOS observations for regions reported by Aquarius to contain “low-level” RFI. It is shown that the detection of these sources in the SMOS data set is challenging and that the dependence of the SMOS third and fourth Stokes parameters on incidence angle makes the polarimetric features of SMOS difficult to utilize for low-level source detection. However, an angular fitting procedure suggested previously in the literature can, in some cases, detect such sources in horizontal and vertical polarizations. One of the critical problems after an earthquake is building damage assessment. The area, amount, rate, and type of the damage are essential information for rescue, humanitarian and reconstruction operations in the disaster area. Remote sensing techniques play an important role in obtaining building damage information because of their non-contact, low cost, wide field of view, and fast response capacities. Now that more and diverse types of remote sensing data become available, various methods are designed and reported for building damage assessment. This paper provides a comprehensive review of these methods in two categories: multi-temporal techniques that evaluate the changes between the pre- and post-event data and mono-temporal techniques that interpret only the post-event data. Both categories of methods are discussed and evaluated in detail in terms of the type of remote sensing data utilized, including optical, LiDAR and SAR data. Performances of the methods and future efforts are drawn from this extensive evaluation.
