This object structured classification result is then compared with the existing GIS objects and all objects are marked where the result of the classification is not the same as the object class of the object which is stored in the GIS database. The result is not only a change detection but also a classification into the most likely class. [Termes IGN] surveillance écologiqueRésumé : (Auteur) The availability of hyperspectral data is going to provide new insights for environmental studies. In this study, hyperspectral data were collected for 10 land cover types with in situ measurement and leaves of 25 subtropical tree species in laboratory measurement within the 400 900 rim spectral regions in 689 bands. These bands were subsequently filtered to 138 bands for data analysis. Principal components analysis was applied to explore the inherent data dimensions. It was found that unlike most broadband sensors from which only two dimensions, brightness and greenness, could be extracted, hyperspectral data provided additional dimensions particularly along the red edge that could help identify different land covers as well as tree species. The results of tree identification using principal components analysis were comparable to those using the raw spectral bands. Hyperspectral data analysis should be a valuable tool for environmental monitoring in the tropical and subtropical environment where a large variety of flora and habitats is found. [Termes IGN] température en altitudeRésumé : (Auteur) The issue of incorporating surface emissivity into a thermal atmospheric correction of thermal remotely sensed data is addressed. The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) is derived using atmospherically corrected surface reflectance values, which is subsequently used to estimate the percent Q vegetation cover. Surface emissivity is approximated by a linear interpolation between a minimum bare soil emissivity and a maximum vegetation value of emissivity. An application of the method to an image over the Southern Great Plains 1997 (SGP97) Hydrology Experiment for the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) band 4 demonstrates temperature corrections up to 8°C, with a mean correction at 3.7°C. The temperatures within the fully vegetated pixels show good agreement with air temperature measurements at the time of satellite overpass. [Termes IGN] variation d'échelleRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, we extend our previous work on shapebased queries to support queries on configurations of image objects. Here we consider spatial reasoning, especially directional and metric object relationships. Existing models for spatial reasoning tend to rely on pre-identified cardinal directions and minimal scale variations, assumptions that cannot be considered as given in our image applications, where orientations and scale may vary substantially, and are often unknown. Accordingly, we have developed the method of varying baselines to identify similarities in direction and distance relations. Our method allows us to evaluate directional similarities without a priori knowledge of cardinal directions, and to compare distance relations even when query scene and database content differ in scale by unknown amounts. We use our method to evaluate similarity between a userdefined query scene and object configurations. Here we present this new method, and discuss its role within a broader image retrieval framework.
