[Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (Auteur) In 1999, the Ministry of Land and Resources (MLR) of China launched the National Land Use Change Program especially to monitor the scale and distribution of urban expansion and the decrease in cultivated land through remote sensing technology. This Program has been carried out annually and continuously for seven years since then and played an important role in the policy-making of MLR about land management and planning. This paper gives an overview about this Program and discusses several research issues. First, the remote sensing data sources and other ancillary data used in this Program are presented. The approaches for image preprocessing, i.e. radiometric normalization, image geometric rectification and image fusion are then introduced with an emphasis on the algorithm development for image registration. Second, land use change detection technique is the most critical and complex aspect of the Program. The methodologies for change detection using either bi-temporal image pair or one existing land use map and one remotely sensed image are detailed. Third, since the data of land use changes derived from remote sensing will be operationally used for local and central government, field validation and accuracy assessment are crucial to ensure the reliability of change detection results. The strategy of field work and the resulting accuracy evaluations is presented. The land use and change information derived from remotely sensed data has wide applications for land management, including land use database updating, verification of land use planning and monitoring of national high-tech parks. Last, suggestions on how to make full use of the images and change detection result, to improve the consistency of land use classification and to develop change detection algorithms for diverse and complex remote sensing data are given. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (Auteur) Using Landsat TM data from 1995 and 2000, changes in the landscape erosion pattern of the Yellow River Basin, China were analysed. The aim was to improve our understanding of soil-erosion change so that sustainable land use could be established. First, a soil-erosion intensity index model was developed to study soil-erosion intensity change in the study area. Over the 5 years, the areas of weak erosion, moderate erosion, severe erosion, and very severe erosion all increased. The area of weak erosion increased dramatically by 7.94*105 ha, and areas of slight erosion and acute erosion decreased by 1.93*106 ha and 4.50*104 ha, respectively. The results show that while the intensity of soil erosion has gradually been decreasing as a whole, in some regions the soil erosion is becoming more severe. Based on landscape indices, the pattern of changes in soil erosion over the past 5 years was analysed. The changes in landscape pattern of soil erosion resulted from human activities. Analysis showed that human impact increases fragmentation, having three major effects on landscape pattern, reduction in patch area, variations in patch shape, and changes in spatial pattern. In the study area, population growth, farming, governmental policy and forest degradation are the major factors causing soil erosion change over a 5-year period. [Termes IGN] urbanisationRésumé : (Auteur) The landscape pattern of Daqing City, China, has undergone a significant change over the past 20 years, as a result of the rapid urbanization process. To understand how urbanization has influenced the landscape in Daqing City, the largest base of the petrochemical industry in China, we conducted a series of spatial analyses with landscape pattern maps obtained from Landsat images in 1979, 1990 and 2000. Results indicate that a substantial urban area has been extended during the past two decades, along with the shrinking of wetland and woodland. Spatio-temporal optimization is not a trivial task in developing landscape models. In previous studies, the optimization of spatial and temporal factors was achieved separately, because of the difficulty in formulating them together in a single model. In this study, we adapted the traditional Markov model by obtaining model parameters and neighbourhood rules from a modified genetic algorithm (GA). Model performance was evaluated between the empirical landscape map from the Landsat image and the simulated landscape map from the models. Over three simulation runs, the global deviation (GD) for the three models was 1.37, 1.10 and 1.15, respectively. This result shows that the Markov model and the GA together are able to effectively capture the spatio-temporal trend in the landscape pattern associated with urbanization for this region. The future landscape distribution in 2010, 2030 and 2050 was derived using a spatial Markov model (SMM) for further urban change and planning research.
