The enormous progress since then has required a complete reworking. While basic material has been retained other parts are completely updated. However, there is a seamless welding of new ideas and methods (GPS, satellites, collocation). Highlights include: emphasis on global integration of geometry and gravity, a simplified approach to Molodensky's theory without integral equations, and a general combination of all geodetic data by least-squares collocation. In the second edition minor mistakes have been corrected. [Termes IGN] vitesseIndex. décimale : 30.40 Géodésie physique Résumé : (Auteur) Even in the frame of a spherical symmetric, non-rotating, linear elastic and isotropic model an independent description of the Earth's density and elastic properties, as usual in most existing models, has no unique solution and thus leads to an over-parametrisation. Whereas the elastic properties can be verified well with the help of seismic traveltimes, the density remains much less determinate. With this work, an adequate description of a normal density distribution based on a physically meaningful, non-empirical parametrisation and an abstraction to the essential physical properties will be presented. Beside the postulate on homogeneity of the chemical composition and phase inside each shell and an adiabatic gradient of temperature, the main assumption is hydrostatic equilibrium, which must be fulfilled in a global sense for the widest parts of the Earth's interior. Under these circumstances the Williamson-Adams-equation holds as a fundamental relation between density and seismic velocities. Deviations from the underlying suppositions can be described, if necessary and appropriate information exists, a priori by the Bullen-Parameter. By the physical relation between density and seismic velocities alone a parametrisation is not given. With the help of a postulate on a pressure-density-relation in historical density laws it is possible to develop a suitable function. A differential equation follows from the Poisson equation for the inner gravitational potential in conjunction with that postulate and the assumption of hydrostatic equilibrium. Its special solutions lead in consistence with seismic data to a parametrisation of the density. Extensive investigations show that only functions in even powers of the radius allow a best and stable fit to the seismic data, while ordinary polynomials most common in use are less eligible for a description of the density. Furthermore, to obtain a stable determination of the density a strict separation of the data-types is unavoidable. From the seismic velocities it is only possible to infer the shape of the density-function within the shells, additional data as the density below the crust-mantle-boundary, the geodetic values for mean mass and mean moment of inertia and the frequencies of the free oscillations are necessary to fix the absolute level in each shell. Under consideration of the aforementioned aspects it is possible to obtain a unique and stable description of a normal density distribution in accordance with seismic and geodetic information. Thus the presented parametrisation can serve as a basis for anomaly analysis in geodesy and geophysics. [Termes IGN] températureRésumé : (Auteur) Concerns over greenhouse-gas forcing and global temperatures have initiated research into understanding climate forcing and associated Earth-system responses. A significant component is the Earth's cryosphere, as glacier- related, feedback mechanisms govern atmospheric, hydrospheric and lithospheric response. Predicting the human and natural dimensions of climate-induced environmental change requires global, regional and local information about ice-mass distribution, volumes, and fluctuations. The Global Land-ice Measurements from Space (GLIMS) project is specifically designed to produce and augment baseline information to facilitate glacier-change studies. This requires addressing numerous issues, including the generation of topographic information, anisotropic-reflectance correction of satellite imagery, data fusion and spatial analysis, and GIS-based modeling. Field and satellite investigations indicate that many small glaciers and glaciers in temperate regions are downwasting and retreating, although detailed mapping and assessment are still required to ascertain regional and global patterns of ice-mass variations. Such remote sensing/GIS studies, coupled with field investigations, are vital for producing baseline information on glacier changes, and improving our understanding of the complex linkages between atmospheric, lithospheric, and glaciological processes. [Termes IGN] masse de la TerreRésumé : (Auteur) Off Urakawa, Hokkaido district landward of a junction of Chishima trench and Japan trench, there is a large negative gravity anomaly of about 200 mgals. Off Miyazaki, Kyushu district landward of a junction of Ryukyu trench and Nankai trough, there is also large negative gravity anomaly.
If the oceanic plate uniformly moves, an excess mass is produced at the trench junction and the excess mass should he observed as a positive gravity anomaly. However, on the contrary, large negative anomaly is actually observed. The idea presented in this paper is that, the excess mass falls in the mantle, and this causes a depression of earth surface (free surface), and lack of mass at the surface produces negative free air gravity anomaly.
The problems of surface deformation due to falling ball which is rigid and denser than the surround viscous material, were discussed by Morgan in 1965,')') and excellent papers were published. The deformations of the surface due to a rigid falling ball are divided into two parts. The one is due to direct attraction of the ball and gravity does not change though the surface sink in. The other is due to a current within the viscous fluid and the surface sink in and gravity changes. The amount of the change in gravity is roughly twice as large as gravity due to descending ball, with opposite sign.
The water contained in sediment on the ocean floor is transported to a deeper part of the mantle by a descending plate. The water is released into a mantle of continent at the depth of about 150 km and, lowers melting temperature there and negative buoyancy of the plate changes to buoyancy. Therefore the depth is a limit of negative buoyancy of the plate. According to the idea, the excess mass at trench junction off Urakawa and off Miyazaki were estimated and tried to explain origin of negative gravity anomaly landward of trench junction.
