[Vedettes matières IGN] SylvicultureRésumé : (auteur) Protected native-forested areas may be occupied by fruit pests, and so, studies exploring the biotic and abiotic determinants of fruit-pest abundance in forested areas may reduce damages in crops and wild forest frugivores. The Spotted Wing Drosophila (SWD) Drosophila suzukii is an economically important fruit pest in many temperate regions around the world. During the dry summer in northwestern Spain, we assessed 24 native riparian and 32 non-riparian chestnut forest patches as non-crop habitats for the SWD. We surveyed chestnut forests in 2017 and found a positive association between spatial proximity of forest patches to streams and SWD captures, which led us to study in 2019 the stream-SWD associations in greater detail. We explored whether native-insect communities and changes in vegetation structure related to rural abandonment were associated with variation in SWD captures, while accounting for the effects of covariates, including stream distance. There were no significant associations in the riparian and non-riparian-habitat surveys between the captures of SWDs and those of native insects, including 22 families of flies and 10 families of parasitic wasps. However, captures of SWDs and of other drosophilid flies were positively related to each other and the direction of the association was reversed by stream distance, which suggests the potential role of streams in regulating interactions among non-riparian insects, including SWD. We also found correlative evidence that degraded riparian forests and the abandonment of traditional forest practices in chestnut forests may be contributing to the spread of SWD. Given the numbers of SWDs in our forest samples were similar to values in August in crop areas, it is advisable that future studies address the impacts of SWD invasion on native forest frugivores, which have been overlooked in studies of this widely distributed invasive species.

[Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Crowdsourcing is one of the spatial data sources, but due to its unstructured form, the quality of noisy crowd judgments is a challenge. In this study, we address the problem of detecting and removing crowdsourced data bias as a prerequisite for better-quality open-data output. This study aims to find the most robust data quality assurance system (QAs). To achieve this goal, we design logic-based QAs variants and test them on the air quality crowdsourcing database. By extending the paradigm of urban air pollution monitoring from particulate matter concentration levels to air-quality-related health symptom load, the study also builds a new perspective for citizen science (CS) air quality monitoring. The method includes the geospatial web (GeoWeb) platform as well as a QAs based on conditional statements. A four-month crowdsourcing campaign resulted in 1823 outdoor reports, with a rejection rate of up to 28%, depending on the applied. The focus of this study was not on digital sensors’ validation but on eliminating logically inconsistent surveys and technologically incorrect objects. As the QAs effectiveness may depend on the location and society structure, that opens up new cross-border opportunities for replication of the research in other geographical conditions. [Vedettes matières IGN] Ecologie forestièreRésumé : (auteur) Habitat monitoring in Europe is regulated by Article 17 of the Habitats Directive, which suggests the use of typical species to assess habitat conservation status. Yet, the Directive uses the term “typical” species but does not provide a definition, either for its use in reporting or for its use in impact assessments. To address the issue, an online workshop was organized by the Italian Society for Vegetation Science (SISV) to shed light on the diversity of perspectives regarding the different concepts of typical species, and to discuss the possible implications for habitat monitoring. To this aim, we inquired 73 people with a very different degree of expertise in the field of vegetation science by means of a tailored survey composed of six questions. We analysed the data using Pearson's Chi-squared test to verify that the answers diverged from a random distribution and checked the effect of the degree of experience of the surveyees on the results. We found that most of the surveyees agreed on the use of the phytosociological method for habitat monitoring and of the diagnostic and characteristic species to evaluate the structural and functional conservation status of habitats. With this contribution, we shed light on the meaning of “typical” species in the context of habitat monitoring. [Vedettes matières IGN] ForesterieRésumé : (auteur) Many forest resource systems depend heavily on shared and coupled infrastructures in applying their management strategies. Addressing a question of sustainability for relevant contemporary social-ecological systems (SES) can be tackled by understanding how these shared infrastructures mediate the interaction between human and ecological environment. Shared infrastructures, which are mainly composed of roads (accessibility utilities), highlight the relation between the performance of ecosystem services and the multifunctional use of the forest. However, dilemmas associated with road provision pose some problems when applied in a forest multifunctional management context, because roads potentially diminish or enhance forest functions in a complex way. In this context, maintaining, fostering, and improving multifunctional management where the development of an ecosystem function can affect the performance of others is challenging. We propose to develop a mathematical model based on a recent study that links multifunctional forest management to the multifunctionality of forest roads by using the SES and robustness frameworks. With this model, we analyze the evolution of the forest system and three key forest functions (wood production, tourism, and nature conservation) when impacted by decisions of road provision. We then examine how governance provision strategies can affect the performance of functions and how these strategies can potentially foster forest multifunctionality. This approach allows us to derive conditions of sustainability in which decisions of shared infrastructure provisions can play an important role in the functionalities and performance of the forest.
