[Termes IGN] sylvicultureRésumé : (Editeur) Large-scale forest management tasks, like determining tree species, closure and mixture rate require high geometrical accuracy, as well as efficient data extraction techniques. Are IKONOS images suited for these tasks ? To answer this question the authors examined accuracy and extraction techniques for lower-price 'IKONOS Carterra Geo' imagery. The remote sensing software packages used were ERDAS Image 8.4 Professional, PCI OrthoEngine 8.2 Satellite Edition and Definiens eCognition 2.0. Digital forestry map operations were carried out with ArcView GIS 3.1. The answer to the initial question would appear to be positive. [Termes IGN] trajectographie (positionnement)Résumé : (Auteur) In repeat-pass synthetic aperture radar (SAR) interferometry, the aproximations, allowing the phase-to-eight conversion, prevent high-resolution mapped relief. In this paper, we present a more general and exact formulation giving a new relationship between the interferogram phase and the target height. It is based on the interferometric SAR geometry and on a better expansion of the path length difference between the sensor and the target. This formulation emphasizes the impact of baseline uncertainties on digital elevation model (DEM) accuracy. A quantitative assessment of the required baseline accuracy is computed. The impact of orbital parameters, used in the new formulation, on interferogram generation is studied. Thus, a new simulator algorithm is developed and tested on a set of reference and simulated DEM examples. Examples of interferogram simulation and DEM generation validate this new approach in the case of a mountainous area in Mustang (Nepal). [Termes IGN] test statistiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Positional accuracy estimates of linear features based on their welldefined points can be significantly different than the accuracy estimates determined from their adjoining lines. A case study was conducted to determine both the cause of this difference as well as the relative effect of the number of points used in calculating the point-based accuracy estimate. Results showed that : (1) the difference between accuracy estimates was primarily due to dissimilar criteria for measuring closeness of primitive features ; and (2) the current US requirement of using 20 well-defined points provided a reasonable estimation of accuracy for the case study. The differences in accuracy estimates described in this study should impact both the definition of geospatial accuracy standards, and the interpretation of geographical analyses with respect to error propagation. [Termes IGN] télédétection électromagnétiqueRésumé : (Auteur) In spite of recent optimistic growth prognoses, the commercial success of earth observation is hindered primarily by the inability of satellite operators to generate and consequently to deliver in time the requested products and services to the customer. This however, is vital for th establishment of any kind of service. a potential customer will only change his internal procedures and infrastucture if the avaibility of the alternative products is guaranteed. Consequently, a commercially operated system must aim primarily at offering guaranteed avaibility of information. A satisfactory avaibility of information on large areas of interest when using optical sensors can only be achieved by minimizing the time between the individual revisits and providing sufficient capacity. This understanding led to the definition of the RapidEye concept and the RapidEye imaging system.
