[Termes IGN] modèle numérique de terrainRésumé : (Auteur) A hierarchical terrain recovery approach for generating digital terrain models (DTM) from single and multiple returns lidar data is presented in this paper. The algorithm can intelligently discriminate between terrain and non-terrain points by using adaptive and robust filtering and interpolation techniques. It processes the image pyramid, bottom-up and top-down, to estimate high-quality terrain surfaces from lidar data with varying point densities and scene complexities. Using road and vegetation information, the algorithm is able to adaptively adjust thresholds to be suited to process changing contents in a large scene. The algorithms have been tested extensively using multiple medium - and high - resolution lidar datasets. The worst-case error is below 25 cm Linear Error (LE) 90 comparing the derived DTMs and the raw range images on bare surfaces when testing several lidar datasets. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) The automatic interpretation of aerial and satellites images is one of the main important research topics in photogrammetry and images analysis. The aim of the interpretation is the recognition or verification of objects in images. The quality of the interpretation results depends among other factors on the information content of the input data. The more information in the input data the easier is the interpretation process. In this paper an approach is described that increases the quality of the interpretation process by using existing GIS data as prior information on the one hand and by combining multispectral and LIDAR data on the other hand. The approach is used fo automatic change detection and is based on the evaluation of automatically derived training data sets from existing GIS data. For that reason no data dependent tuning factors have to be defined and no human interaction is necessary. [Termes IGN] penteRésumé : (Auteur) This paper compares three methods for removing non-ground measurements from airborne laser scanning data. These methods, including the elevation threshold with expanding window (ETEW), maximum local slope (MLS), and progressive morphological (PM) filters, analyze data points based on variations of local slope, and elevation. Low and high-relief data sets with various densities of trees, houses, and sand dunes were selected to test the filtering methods. The results show that all three methods can effectively remove most non-ground points in both low-relief urban and high-relief forested areas. The PM filter generated the best result in coastal barrier island areas, whereas the other algorithms tended to remove the tops of steep sand dunes. Each method experienced various omission or commission errors, depending on the filtering parameters. Topographic slope is the most sensitive parameter for the three filtering methods. [Termes IGN] transformation de HoughRésumé : (auteur) This paper focuses on the reconstruction of surfaces of revolution. We propose a method for estimating those surfaces from point clouds. We are more particularly dealing with data coming from one unique laser scanner acquisition; indeed, our approach extensively uses the range image topology. It makes originally use of geometric properties of surfaces of revolution. We firstly get an approximation of the axis of revolution, thanks to a Hough transform of symmetry axis computed on range image contours. Robust and accurate axis estimation refinement of position and orientation is then reached by minimizing the rms error of the profile estimate. Image topology is also used to estimate the object’s profile. 3D points are connected following the image topology and the nearest neighbouring planes rotating around the axis of revolution. After projection on these planes, lines connecting points allow easy profile estimation. This method solves the measuring noise issue which is usually sorted out through moving least squares solutions. Once the object of revolution has been reconstructed, we retrieve automatically all occurrences of this pattern in the scene, with a scale adaptative matching algorithm.
