[Termes IGN] zone urbaine denseRésumé : (auteur) We propose a context-based classification method for point clouds acquired by full waveform airborne laser scanners. As these devices provide a higher point density and additional information like echo width or type of return, an accurate distinction of several object classes is possible. However, especially in dense urban areas correct labelling is a challenging task. Therefore, we incorporate context knowledge by using Conditional Random Fields. Typical object structures are learned in a training step and improve the results of the point-based classification process. We validate our approach with two real-world datasets and by a comparison to Support Vector Machines and Markov Random Fields. [Termes IGN] système expertRésumé : (Auteur) An attempt to delineate impervious surfaces in the City of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, was made using multispectral high spatial resolution imagery and lidar data. An isodata classification was performed and results aggregated into two parent classes, impervious and pervious. The ISODATA classification yielded an overall accuracy of 91.0 percent with a Kappa of 82.0 percent. A Knowledge Based Expert System (kbes) set of rules was designed incorporating the imagery classification with lidar data to derive two models, Cover Height and Cover Slope, to provide critical information not available from multispectral imagery. The rules were applied to the initial isodata classification to improve the classification accuracy to an overall accuracy of 94.0 percent with a Kappa of 87.9 percent. In this study, it was shown that lidar holds promise for improving the accuracy of impervious surface measurement, as well as the potential identification and measurement of other significant planimetric features such as buildings and trees. [Termes IGN] Paris (75)Résumé : (auteur) This paper presents a pipeline in progress for generating virtual 3D model of urban street facades by fusing cadastral map with terrestrial images and laser data. A Mobile Mapping System (MMS) has been employed to massively gather georeferenced images and laser raw data at street level. Firstly, we describe the context as well as our motivation that aims at enriching the quality of the virtual urban environments. Secondly, we briefly present advanced works on 3D street facades mapping by merging the cadastral map and laser data. These works addressed the street facade plane estimation, their delimitation, and their texturing. Thirdly, we present a novel extension we are working on for extracting 3D detailed facade limits by fusing the cadastral map with laser and image data. This extension is essentially focused to the detection of fine 2D skylines from acquired high resolution facade images and to the estimation of the detailed 3D facade top boundaries. The presented work deals with datasets acquired in the city of Paris under real conditions. Advances and results show the potential of the envisaged pipeline for applications such as the visualization and the large scale navigation in virtual 3D street model.
