[Termes IGN] SlovénieRésumé : (Auteur) Exact data about the location and area of vacant building land have been a major issue in several Slovene municipalities. This article deals with automatic vacant building land delineation. The presented methodology is based on the object-based classification that derives the land cover layer from orthophoto and laser scanning data. With post-processing and data cleaning in GIS, we create the vacant building land layer. The methodology was tested in study areas in the Municipality of Trebnje. The results were compared to the vacant building land layer generated by visual interpretation (manual vectorisation). We found that the presented methodology of automatic delineation of vacant buildings can speed up the processing and lower the cost of manual vectorisation and, in particular, data updating but we cannot completely replace manual work. [Termes IGN] zone à risqueRésumé : (auteur) We present a procedure for assessing the urban exposure and seismic vulnerability that integrates LiDAR data with aerial images from the Spanish National Plan of Aerial Orthophotography (PNOA). It comprises three phases: first, we segment the satellite image to divide the study area into different urban patterns. Second, we extract building footprints and attributes that represent the type of building of each urban pattern. Finally, we assign the seismic vulnerability to each building using different machine-learning techniques: Decision trees, SVM, logistic regression and Bayesian networks. We apply the procedure to 826 buildings in the city of Lorca (SE Spain), where we count on a vulnerability database that we use as ground truth for the validation of results. The outcomes show that the machine learning techniques have similar performance, yielding vulnerability classification results with an accuracy of 77%–80% (F1-Score). The procedure is scalable and can be replicated in different areas. This is particularly relevant in Spain, where more than seven hundred towns have to develop seismic risk studies in the years to come, according to the General Direction of Civil Protection and Emergencies. It is especially interesting as a complement to conventional data gathering approaches for disaster risk applications in cities where field surveys need to be restricted to certain areas, dates or budget. [Termes IGN] réductionRésumé : (auteur) In cost–benefit analysis of lidar data acquisition, point density is often artificially reduced in order to examine how this affects the quality of derived products. However, the performance of the different density reduction methods has not yet been compared and their influence on the accuracy of the models and results has not been evaluated. A novel method for reducing the point density, termed Proportional per Cell (PpC), is presented and compared with the performance of three other reduction methods, examining their influence on the accuracy of lidar‐derived digital surface models using ISPRS reference data. The results indicate that the PpC method was better at conserving the characteristics of the original data. However, point density, sample type and slope had a greater influence than the reduction method used. [Termes IGN] réductionMots-clés libres : Optimum Dataset method Résumé : (Auteur) Modern data-acquisition technologies provide large datasets. Such datasets are often cumbersome for rational processing, and their processing is time consuming. Therefore, there are several methods that can enable the reduction of the dataset size. One of them is generalisation of the Digital Terrain Model (DTM) or the reduction method within the initial processing of measurement data. Another method can be the Optimum Dataset (OptD) method. This paper presents two approaches towards decreasing the Light Detection and Ranging dataset. The first approach is based on the process of DTM generalisation, the second one is based on the application of the OptD method. The reduced datasets were used for isoline map creation depicting the overflow land in open-pit mining. It was proved that the reduction needs to be planned deliberately and that the degree of reduction should be performed in a way that allows to maintain the characteristics of the terrain. [Termes IGN] Toscane (Italie)Résumé : (auteur) The climate of a city influences the ways in which its outdoor spaces are used. Especially, public spaces intended for use by pedestrians and cyclists, such as parks, squares, residential and commercial streets, and foot and cycle paths will be used and enjoyed more frequently if they have a comfortable and healthy climate. Due to the predicted global temperature increase, urban climate is likely to become more uncomfortable, especially in summer when an increase in heat stress is expected. Urban forestry has been proposed as one approach for mitigating the human health consequences of increased temperature resulting from climate change. The aims of the current research were to (a) provide a transferable methodology useful for analyzing the effect of urban trees on surface temperature reduction, particularly in public spaces, and (b) provide high-resolution urban mapping for adaptation strategies to climate change based on green space projects. To achieve the established aims, we developed a methodology that uses multisource data: LiDAR data, high-resolution Landsat imagery, global climate model data from CMIP5 (IPPC Fifth Assessment), and data from meteorological stations. The proposed model can be a useful tool for validating the efficiency of design simulations of new green spaces for temperature mitigation.
