[Termes IGN] séismeRésumé : (Auteur) After more than a decade of dispute and controversy, China and Nepal have finally agreed on the altitude of Mount Everest. The highest peak in the world, which lies on Nepal's border with Tibet in the Himalayas, stands at 8,848.86 meters, officials from the two countries announced on December 8, 2020. To relate this human and technique epic, open our columns to Gavin Schrock, consulting editor and land surveyor who interviewed several protagonists and to Khim Lal Gautam, leader of the Nepalese expedition in 2019. Bernard Flacelière, editor-in-chief of XYZ recalls here the forgotten mission of 1992. [Termes IGN] signal GLONASSRésumé : (auteur) With the development of multi-GNSS, the differential code bias (DCB) has been an increasing interest in the multi-frequency multi-GNSS community. Unlike code division multiple access (CDMA) mode used by GPS, BDS and Galileo etc., the GLONASS signals are modulated with frequency division multiple access (FDMA) mode. Up to now, the FDMA-aware GLONASS bias products are provided by two individual IGS analysis center (AC), i.e., CODE and GFZ. However, only the ionosphere-free (IF) combination IFB of P1 and P2 is available, while it is founded that the GLONASS IFB of GFZ on both frequencies are identical for the same receiver-satellite pair. In this contribution, the GLONASS IFB (inter-frequency bias) solution based on the spherical-harmonic (SH) ionospheric delay modeling as well as the undifferenced and uncombined PPP were carried out and evaluated. Based on the theoretical analysis, observations from 236 CMONOC stations and 172 IGS stations were collected for 2014 March and 2017 March for the numerical verification. The results suggested that the precision of IFB estimates was mainly subjected to the ionospheric status. Concerning the SH ionospheric delay modeling solution, the STD was 0.85 ns and 0.51 ns for 2014 and 2017, respectively. Concerning the undifferenced and uncombined PPP solution, the IFB was further dependent on the signal frequencies, and the STD was 1.43 ns and 1.94 ns for IFB1 and IFB2 in 2014, and the STD was 0.97 ns and 1.17 ns for IFB1 and IFB2 in 2017. When converted to the GF IFB from the individual IFB on each frequency, and compared to that of GF IFB of SH solution, it is revealed that the undifferenced and uncombined PPP solution has its advantages for IFB estimation on each individual frequency, and more efficient in data processing, while the solution based on the SH ionospheric delay modeling has its advantage in the precision of the GF IFB estimates. Thus, it is suggested that the SH model should be preferred for non-time-critical GF IFB concerned-only applications. Otherwise, the undifferenced and uncombined PPP solution is preferred. These IFB on each frequency was further converted to the ionosphere-free IFB and compared with the products of CODE analysis center. [Termes IGN] télédétection spatialeRésumé : (Auteur) This article explores the possibility to exploit global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) signals to obtain radar imagery of ships. This is a new application area for the GNSS remote sensing, which adds to a rich line of research about the alternative utilization of navigation satellites for remote sensing purposes, which currently includes reflectometry, passive radar, and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) systems. In the field of short-range maritime surveillance, GNSS-based passive radar has already proven to detect and localize ship targets of interest. The possibility to obtain meaningful radar images of observed vessels would represent an additional benefit, opening the doors to noncooperative ship classification capability with this technology. To this purpose, a proper processing chain is here conceived and developed, able to achieve well-focused images of ships while maximizing their signal-to-background ratio. Moreover, the scaling factors needed to map the backscatter energy in the range and cross-range domain are also analytically derived, enabling the estimation of the length of the target. The effectiveness of the proposed approach at obtaining radar images of ship targets and extracting relevant features is confirmed via an experimental campaign, comprising multiple Galileo satellites and a commercial ferry undergoing different kinds of motion. [Termes IGN] trajet multipleRésumé : (auteur) The tightly coupled global navigation satellite system (GNSS) precise point positioning (PPP) and inertial navigation system (INS) can provide high-precision position, velocity and attitude information. The coupled system utilizes single receiver, which is particularly suitable for the environment without reference station, such as marine survey. In the former works, the integer ambiguity resolution of PPP/INS in terrestrial environment is researched. However, the GNSS observation is severely affected by the multipath effect in marine environment. In addition, the sideslip caused by wind and sea wave also impact float ambiguity estimation, consequently introducing difficulty for PPP ambiguity fixing. Therefore, the PPP/INS tightly coupled model with fixed ambiguity is proposed for marine survey. The correction model of INS gyroscope bias in closed-loop is deduced in detail. The influence of ship motion noise and multipath in marine environment is reduced by introducing the robust factor to the Kalman filter. The feasibility of the method is verified in a real marine experiment, with a detail evaluation of the data quality and positioning accuracy. The results show that the accuracy of PPP/INS can reach centimeter level after fixing the ambiguity in marine environment. Furthermore, the precise INS-predicted position can significantly shorten the re-fixed time of PPP/INS, which proves the efficiency of the proposed approach.
