[Termes IGN] rotation de la TerreRésumé : (auteur) Recent efforts of tracking low Earth orbit and medium Earth orbit (MEO) satellites using geodetic very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) raise questions on the potential of this novel observation concept for space geodesy. Therefore, we carry out extensive Monte Carlo simulations in order to investigate the feasibility of geodetic VLBI for precise orbit determination (POD) of MEO satellites and assess the impact of quality and quantity of satellite observations on the derived geodetic parameters. The MEO satellites are represented in our study by LAGEOS-1/-2 and a set of Galileo satellites. The concept is studied on the basis of 3-day solutions in which satellite observations are included into real schedules of the continuous geodetic VLBI campaign 2017 (CONT17) as well as simulated schedules concerning the next-generation VLBI system, known as the VLBI Global Observing System (VGOS). Our results indicate that geodetic VLBI can perform on a comparable level as other space-geodetic techniques concerning POD of MEO satellites. For an assumed satellite observation precision better than 14.1 mm (47 ps), an average 3D orbit precision of 2.0 cm and 6.3 cm is found for schedules including LAGEOS-1/-2 and Galileo satellites, respectively. Moreover, geocenter offsets, which were so far out of scope for the geodetic VLBI analysis, are close to the detection limit for the simulations concerning VGOS observations of Galileo satellites, with the potential to further enhance the results. Concerning the estimated satellite orbits, VGOS leads to an average precision improvement of 80% with respect to legacy VLBI. In absolute terms and for satellite observation precision of 14.1 mm (47 ps), this corresponds to an average value of 17 mm and 7 mm concerning the 3D orbit scatter and precision of geocenter components, respectively. As shown in this study, a poor satellite geometry can degrade the derived Earth rotation parameters and VLBI station positions, compared to the quasar-only reference schedules. Therefore, careful scheduling of both quasar and satellite observations should be performed in order to fully benefit from this novel observation concept. However, the data sequences generated by multiple sensors can be inconsistent and contain significant time drift. In this paper, we describe the trajectory drift–compensated strategy that we designed to eliminate the influence of time drift between sensors, remove the inconsistency between the sequences from various sensors, and thereby generate a coarse-to-fine procedure for robust camera-tracking based on two-dimensional–3D observations from stereo sensors. We present the mathematical analysis of the iterative optimizations for pose tracking in a stereo red, green, blue plus depth (RGB-D) camera. Finally, complex indoor scenario experiments demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed stereo RGB-D simultaneous localization and mapping solution. The results verify that the proposed stereo RGB-D mapping solution effectively improves the accuracies of both camera-tracking and 3D reconstruction. [Termes IGN] marée océaniqueRésumé : (Auteur) The ocean mass variability inferred from Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) satellites mission is challenged by the stripes and the leakage across land-ocean boundary. The recently released GRACE mascons solutions are advanced by applying constraints that remove efficiently the stripes and dual leakage correction that restores the coastal ocean mass variability. Here we quantitatively evaluate the improvement in the Arctic Ocean mass variability by GRACE mascons. To do so, we compare the combination of GRACE solutions (including the mascons solutions and traditional spherical harmonic coefficients (SHCs) solutions) and the steric estimates against the altimeter observations. Our results suggest that mascons solutions produce stronger correlations compared to SHCs solutions, especially along the coastal zone, indicating the importance of the dual leakage correction. Stronger correlation is produced by the mascons over a small basin in the interior of the Arctic Ocean, suggesting that mascons solutions deliver better ocean mass variability than the SHCs solutions. Since the comparisons are carried out over two sub-basins, we conclude that mascons are able to provide better regional ocean mass variability that may have implications for regional sea level budget, in particular over the coastal zone. [Termes IGN] viscositéRésumé : (auteur) The Wharton basin is situated in the north-eastern part of the Indian Ocean. In 2012 it hosted the largest intraplate strike-slip earthquakes ever recorded by geophysical networks. The Mw 8.6 earthquake of April 11, 2012, was preceded by a major foreshock (Mw 7.2) on January 10 and was followed two hours afterward by a Mw 8.2 event. These three large events occurred at the diffuse boundary between the Indian and Australian plates and were almost pure strike-slips on sub-vertical rupture surfaces. Using GRACE data, we first extracted the coseismic and postseismic gravity signals caused by these earthquakes. Then we fitted both GPS and the highest available spatial resolution of GRACE data using the geometry of the fault system suggested by Hill et al. (2015). We propose a regularization, which allows to solve for a linear problem in order to invert GPS and GRACE data under constraints on the rake angle. Our inversion yields a uniform displacement field on all elements of a given fault plane. Our solution shows that even the main displacement occurred on WNW trending faults, comparable displacement also occurred on a rupture striking NNE. Hence, we show that the deformation in this diffuse plate boundary region in 2012 was accommodated by displacements along both fault-systems. A viscoelastic relaxation of the asthenosphere with a Maxwell viscosity 1019 Pa∙s successfully explains the postseismic displacements at GPS sites and postseismic gravity signals. The limited postseismic aftershock activity suggests small postseismic slip in the area of the 2012 Wharton earthquakes contrary to what is often observed after large subduction event. Because a part of the observed signal could be related to afterslip, our obtained Maxwell viscosity value should be considered as a lower limit of the asthenospheric viscosity below the Wharton basin.
