[Termes IGN] tomographieRésumé : (auteur) Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) ionospheric tomography is a typical ill-posed problem. Joint inversion with external observation data is one of the effective ways to mitigate the problem. In this article, by fusing 3-D multisource ionospheric data, and improving the stochastic model, an improved GNSS tomographic algorithm MFCIT [computerized ionospheric tomography (CIT) using mapping function] is presented. The accuracy of the algorithm is validated by selected data under different geomagnetic and solar conditions acquired in Europe. The results show that the estimated, statistically significant uncertainty for each of the layers is about 0.50–3.0TECU, with the largest absolute error within 6.0TECU. The advantage of the MFCIT is that it is based on the Kalman filter, which enables efficient near real-time 3-D monitoring of ionosphere. The temporal resolution can reach ~1 min level. Here, we apply the ionospheric tomography inversion to the magnetic storm on January 7, 2015, in the European region, and quantified the evolution of the storm. The results show that the difference of the core region between the MFCIT and CODE GIM is less than 1TECU. More importantly, during the initial phase of the storm, when the ionospheric disturbance is not evident in the single layer CODE GIM model, the MFCIT shows obvious positive disturbances in the upper ionosphere, although there is no disturbance in the F2 layer. The MFCIT further tracks the evolution of the magnetic storm that the ionospheric disturbance expands from the upper to the lower ionosphere layers, and at UT12:00, the disturbance continues to spread to the F2 layer. [Termes IGN] transformation de coordonnéesRésumé : (auteur) To evaluate the benefit of a measurement procedure onto the estimated parameters, the dispersion of the parameters is usually used. To draw objective conclusions, unbiased or at least almost unbiased estimates are required. In geodesy, most of the functional relations are nonlinear but the statistical properties of the estimates are usually obtained by a linearised substitute-problem. Since the statistical properties of linear models cannot be passed to the nonlinear case, the estimates are biased. In this contribution, the bias of the parameters as well as the bias of the dispersion in nonlinear implicit models is investigated, using a second-order Taylor expansion. Nonlinear implicit models are general models and are used, for instance, in the framework of surface-fitting or coordinate transformation, which considers errors for the coordinates in source and target system. The bias is introduced as a further indicator to validate the benefit of an adapted measurement process using more precise measuring instruments. Since some parametrisations yield an ill-posed problem, also the case of a singular equation system is investigated. To demonstrate the second-order effect onto the estimates, a best-fitting plane is adjusted under varying configurations. Such a configuration is recommended in evaluating uncertainties of optical 3D measuring systems, e.g. in the framework of the VDI/VDE 2634 guideline. The estimated bias is used as an indicator whether a large number of poor observations provides better results than a small but precise sample. [Termes IGN] triangulation de DelaunayRésumé : (auteur) Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) tomography (TomoSAR) has been well-established for three-dimensional (3-D) information extraction of forests using the multi-baseline SAR data stacks. The multi-baseline SAR data stacks can be acquired by spaceborne and airborne SAR systems, but for forest scenarios, the data stacks acquired by the airborne SAR system are mostly used. Such a data stack has the advantages of short revisiting time and weak temporal decorrelation. However, due to the baseline errors (caused by the residual platform motion and the measurement errors of the navigation instruments), phase errors (PEs) will occur. PEs are independent of one track to the other, resulting in spreading and defocusing in tomographic imaging. In this paper, we proposed a novel phase compensation method named NC-PGA, which combines the methods of network construction (NC) and phase gradient autofocus (PGA) to estimate and compensate the PEs. The NC method uses the Delaunay triangulation network and beamforming to obtain an accurate elevation estimate of the selected permanent scatterers, which can be used as the prior information for subsequent processing to overcome the shortcomings of the PGA method in PEs estimation. The PGA method uses the spatial invariance of PEs in a limited area to compensate for the PE of each track. The applicability of the NC-PGA method is demonstrated using simulated data and real data. The real data contains two data stacks. The one is acquired by a full-polarization P-band airborne SAR system (developed independently by our project research team) over the study area in Saihanba Forest Farm in Hebei, China. The other one is acquired by ONERA SETHI airborne system over Paracou, French Guiana, in the frame of the European Space Agency’s campaign TropiSAR. We select a test area in the study area and successfully retrieve the height of the forest, and use LiDAR data for results validation and evaluation. [Termes IGN] intégrale de NewtonRésumé : (auteur) We apply three spherical-harmonic-based techniques to deliver external gravitational field models of the asteroid (101955) Bennu within its circumscribing sphere. This region is known to be peculiar for external spherical harmonic expansions, because it may lead to a divergent series. The studied approaches are (i) spectral gravity forward modelling via external spherical harmonics, (ii) the least-squares estimation from surface gravitational data using external spherical harmonics and (iii) the combination of internal and external series expansions. While the first method diverges beyond any reasonable doubts, we show that the other two methods may ensure relative accuracy from ∼10−6 to 10−8 in the vicinity of Bennu. This is possible even with the second method, despite the fact that it relies on a single series of external spherical harmonics. Our main motivation was to study conceptual differences between spherical harmonic coefficients from satellite data (analogy to the first method) and from surface gravitational data (the second method). Such coefficients are available through the popular spherical-harmonic-based models of the Earth’s gravitational field and often are combined together. We show that the coefficients from terrestrial data may lead to a divergence effect of partial sums, though excellent accuracy can be achieved when such model is used in full. Under (presently) extreme but realistic conditions, the divergence effect of partial sums may affect many near-surface geoscientific applications, such as the geoid/quasigeoid computation or residual terrain modelling. [Termes IGN] système de référence altimétriqueRésumé : (auteur) The Colorado geoid experiment was initiated and organized as a joint study by the Joint Working Group (JWG) 2.2.2 (1-cm geoid experiment) of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG) in 2017, and different institutions and research groups contributed to this study. The aim of this experiment was to clarify the repeatability of gravity potential values as International Height Reference System (IHRS) coordinates from different geoid determination approaches carried out with the same input dataset. The dataset included the terrestrial and airborne gravity observations, a digital terrain model, the XGM2016 global geopotential model and GPS/leveling data for model validations belonging to a mountainous area of approximately 550 km × 730 km in Colorado, US. The dataset was provided by National Geodetic Survey (NGS) department. In this frame, this article aims providing a discussion on Colorado geoid modeling through individual experimental results obtained by Istanbul Technical University-Gravity Research Group (ITU-GRG). This contribution mainly focused on modeling the Colorado geoid using the least squares modifications of Stokes and Hotine integral formulas with additive corrections. The computations using each formula were carried out using ITU-GRG software, including the solution variants based on terrestrial-only, airborne-only and combined gravity datasets. Then, the calculated experimental geoid models were validated using historical and recently measured profile-based GPS/leveling datasets, and they were also compared with the official solutions submitted by different institutions for the “1-cm geoid experiment” of IAG JWG 2.2.2. For all validation results, the Hotine and Stokes integral formulas yielded similar performances in terms of geoid accuracy; however, the models computed using the combined data had better accuracy than those using the terrestrial-only and airborne-only solutions. The geoid model solutions using the combined data had an accuracy of 2.69 cm for the Hotine method and 2.87 cm for the Stokes method in the test results using GPS/leveling data of the GSVS17 (Geoid Slope Validation Survey 2017) profile. Airborne data from the Gravity for the Redefinition of the American Vertical Datum (GRAV-D) project contributed significantly towards improving the geoid model, especially in the mountainous parts of the area.
