[Termes IGN] valeur propreRésumé : (Auteur) For the classification of pole‐like objects (trees, lamp posts, traffic lights and traffic signs) in mobile laser scanning (MLS) point clouds, a hierarchical classification method is proposed. The method consists of three major steps. (1) The objects’ cylindrical column sections are detected based on the characteristics of arc‐like points using RANSAC after denoising. (2) These detected objects are roughly classified into trees and man‐made poles based on the azimuthal coverage of point clouds above the cylindrical column. (3) Eigenvalue analysis and the principal direction of the upper pole projections are used to differentiate lamp posts, traffic lights and traffic signs. Experimental analysis shows that the method can effectively identify different types of pole‐like objects. [Termes IGN] télédétectionRésumé : (auteur) Automated feature extraction from drone-based image point clouds (DIPC) is of paramount importance in precision agriculture (PA). PA is blessed with mechanized row seedlings to attain maximum yield and best management practices. Therefore, automated plantation rows extraction is essential in crop harvesting, pest management, and plant grow-rate predictions. Most of the existing research is consists on red, green, and blue (RGB) image-based solutions to extract plantation rows with the minimal background noise of test study sites. DIPC-based DSM row extraction solutions have not been tested frequently. In this research work, an automated method is designed to extract plantation row from DIPC-based DSM. The chosen plantation compartments have three different levels of background noise in UAVs images, therefore, methodology was tested under different background noises. The extraction results were quantified in terms of completeness, correctness, quality, and F1-score values. The case study revealed the potential of DIPC-based solution to extraction the plantation rows with an F1-score value of 0.94 for a plantation compartment with minimal background noises, 0.91 value for a highly noised compartment, and 0.85 for a compartment where DIPC was compromised. The evaluation suggests that DSM-based solutions are robust as compared to RGB image-based solutions to extract plantation-rows. Additionally, DSM-based solutions can be further extended to assess the plantation rows surface deformation caused by humans and machines and state-of-the-art is redefined. However, most of the existing representations suffer from high computational cost and structure information loss. This paper presents a novel sequential slice representation with an attention-embedding network, named RSSNet, for 3D point cloud recognition and retrieval in road environments. RSSNet has two main branches. Firstly, a sequential slice module is designed to map disordered 3D point clouds to ordered sequence of shallow feature vectors. A gated recurrent unit (GRU) module is applied to encode the spatial and content information of these sequential vectors. The second branch consists of a key-point based graph convolution network (GCN) with an embedding attention strategy to fuse the sequential and global features to refine the structure discriminability. Three datasets were used to evaluate the proposed method, one acquired by our mobile laser scanning (MLS) system and two public datasets (KITTI and Sydney Urban Objects). Experimental results indicated that the proposed method achieved better performance than recognition and retrieval state-of-the-art methods. RSSNet provided recognition rates of 98.08%, 95.77% and 70.83% for the above three datasets, respectively. For the retrieval task, RSSNet obtained excellent mAP values of 95.56%, 87.16% and 69.99% on three datasets, respectively. The robustness, accuracy, and runtime are generally given the highest priority in the design of appropriate algorithms. Most approaches that target general scenarios can only fulfill some of these factors, that is, robustness and accuracy come at the cost of increased runtime and vice versa. This paper proposes an object-based incremental registration strategy that accomplishes all of these objectives without the need for artificial targets, aiming at a specific scenario, the urban environment. The key is to decompose the degrees of freedom for the SE(3) transformation to three separate but closely related steps, considering that scanners are generally leveled in urban scenes: (1) 2D transformation with matches from line primitives, (2) vertical offset compensation by robust least-squares optimization, and (3) full SE(3) least-squares refinement using uniformly selected local patches. The robustness is prioritized in the whole pipeline, as structured first by a primitive-based registration and two least-squares optimizations with robust estimations that do not require specific keypoints. An object-based strategy for terrestrial point clouds is used to increase the reliability of the first step by the line primitives, which significantly reduces the search space without affecting the recall ratio. The least-squares optimization contributes to achieve a global optimum for the accurate registration. The three coupling steps are also more efficient than segregated coarse-to-fine registration. Experimental evaluations for point clouds acquired in both a metropolis and in old-style cities reveal that the proposed methods are superior to or on par with the state-of-the-art in robustness, accuracy, and runtime. In addition, the methods are also agnostic to the primitives adopted. In this study, we take one step forward by using deep learning to suppress random noise in poststack seismic data from the aspects of network architecture and training samples. On the one hand, poststack seismic data denoising mainly aims at 3-D seismic data. We designed an end-to-end 3-D denoising convolutional neural network (3-D-DnCNN) that takes raw 3-D cubes as input in order to better extract the features of the 3-D spatial structure of poststack seismic data. On the other hand, denoising images with deep learning require noisy–clean sample pairs for training. In the field of seismic data processing, researchers usually try their best to suppress noise by using complex processes that combine different methods, but clean labels of seismic data are not available. In addition, building training samples in field seismic data has become an interesting but challenging problem. Therefore, we propose a training sample selection method that contains a complex workflow to produce comparatively ideal training samples. Experiments in this study demonstrate that deep learning can directly learn the ability to denoise field seismic data from selected samples. Although the building of the training samples may occur through a complex process, the experimental results of synthetic seismic data and field seismic data show that the 3-D-DnCNN has learned the ability to suppress the Gaussian noise and super-Gaussian noise from different training samples. Moreover, the 3-D-DnCNN network has better denoising performance toward arc-like imaging noise. In addition, we adopt residual learning and batch normalization in order to accelerate the training speed. After network training is satisfactorily completed, its processing efficiency can be significantly higher than that of conventional denoising methods.
