[Termes IGN] tectonique des plaquesRésumé : (auteur) The NUVEL1-A is one of the old and popular plate tectonic models. While the NUVEL1-A is a geological-based model, recently a model has been proposed (GSRM2.1 model) which is based on the results of space geodetic techniques. In this work, we investigate the consistency of these models with the VLBI and SLR results in Europe. Direction and magnitude of the horizontal motion from NUVEL-1A and GSRM2.1 models are compared with corresponding values from both geodetic techniques. This comparison provides valuable deductions such as: (1) The values of geodetic-based model (GSRM2.1) show better agreement with SLR and VLBI results (2) In each comparison between geodetic results and modelled values, direction divergence is larger than magnitude difference. [Termes IGN] tunnelRésumé : (auteur) This paper introduces an original method for modelling in 3D the full tube (both vault and canal) of navigable tunnels using data acquired dynamically from a boat. The recording system is composed of cameras that provide images of the vault and a multibeam echo sounder that acquires 3D profiles underwater. Reconstructing partially submerged structures, in a confined environment where no global positioning system signal is available, is challenging. The method exploits the capabilities of photogrammetry, not only to reconstruct the tunnel vault, but also to estimate the trajectory of the vessel, which is necessary to rearrange sonar profiles and form the 3D model of the canal. The comparison of a model reconstructed from in situ dynamic acquisitions with a reference one, obtained from static laser and sonar acquisitions, shows that the accuracy is of the order of a centimetre for the vault, while it is decimetric for underwater features. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser sur satelliteRésumé : (auteur) The Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) technique provides very accurate distance measurements to artificial Earth satellites. SLR is employed for the realization of the origin and the scale of the terrestrial reference frame. Despite the high precision, SLR observations can be affected by various systematic errors. So far, range biases were used to account for systematic measurement errors and mismodeling effects in SLR. Range biases are constant for all elevation angles and independent of the measured distance to a satellite. Recently, intensity-dependent biases for single-photon SLR detectors and offsets of barometer readings and meteorological devices were reported for some SLR stations. In this paper, we study the possibility of the direct estimation of tropospheric biases from SLR observations to LAGEOS satellites. We discuss the correlations between the station heights, range biases, tropospheric biases, and their impact on the repeatability of station coordinates, geocenter motion, and the global scale of the reference frame. We found that the solution with the estimation of tropospheric biases provides more stable station coordinates than the solution with the estimation of range biases. From the common estimation of range and tropospheric biases, we found that most of the systematic effects at SLR stations are better absorbed by elevation-dependent tropospheric biases than range biases which overestimate the total bias effect. The estimation of tropospheric biases changes the SLR-derived global scale by 0.3 mm and the geocenter coordinates by 1 mm for the Z component, causing thus an offset in the realization of the reference frame origin. Estimation of range biases introduces an offset in some SLR-derived low-degree spherical harmonics of the Earth’s gravity field. Therefore, considering elevation-dependent tropospheric and intensity biases is essential for deriving high-accuracy geodetic parameters. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) Terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) is a highly effective and noninvasive technology for retrieving the structural and biophysical attributes of trees using 3-D high-accuracy and high-density point clouds. The separation of leaf and wood points in TLS data is a prerequisite for the accurate and reliable derivation of these attributes. In this study, a new method is proposed to separate the leaf and wood points of individual trees by combining the TLS radiometric (intensity) and geometric (density) data. The leaf points are separated from the wood ones through three steps. First, the corrected intensity data are used to separate a part of the leaf points preliminarily given the differences in reflectance characteristics. Second, the density data are adopted for the further separation of another part of the leaf points because the density of the remaining leaf points is smaller than that of the wood points. Finally, a connectivity clustering algorithm is conducted to form several clusters with different sizes (points) and the remaining leaf points are separated in accordance with the cluster sizes. Eight different trees are selected to evaluate the performance of the proposed method. The averaged overall accuracy and kappa coefficient of the eight trees are approximately 95% and 0.81, respectively. The results suggest that the combination of TLS intensity and density data can perform a superior separation of leaf and wood points in terms of efficiency and accuracy, and the proposed separation method can be accurately and robustly used for various trees with different species, sizes, and structures. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) Digital 3D capture and reliable reproduction of architectural features is the first and most difficult step towards defining a heritage BIM. Three-dimensional digital survey technologies, such as TLS and photogrammetry, enable experts to scan buildings with a new level of detail. Challenges in the tracing of parametric objects in a TLS point cloud include the reconstruction of occluded parts, measurement of uncertainties relevant to surface reflectivity, and edge detection and location. In addition to image-based techniques being considered cost effective, highly flexible, and efficient in producing a high-quality 3D textured model, they also provide a better interpretation of surface linear characteristics. This article addresses an architecture survey workflow using photogrammetry and TLS to optimize a point cloud that is sufficient for a reliable HBIM. Fusion-based workflows were proposed during the recording of two heritage sites—the Matbouli House Museum in Historic Jeddah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site; and Asfan Castle. In the Matbouli House Museum building, which is rich with complex architectural features, multi-sensor recording was implemented at different resolutions and levels of detail. The TLS data were used to reconstruct the basic shape of the main structural elements, while the imagery’s superior radiometric data and accessibility were effectively used to enhance the TLS point clouds for improving the geometry, data interpretation, and parametric tracing of irregular objects in the facade. Furthermore, in the workflow that is considered to be the ragged terrain of the Castle of Asfan, here, the TLS point cloud was supplemented with UAV data in the upper building zones where the shadow data originated. Both datasets were registered using an ICP algorithm to scale the photogrammetric data and define their actual position in the construction system. The hybrid scans were imported and processed in the BIM environment. The building components were segmented and classified into regular and irregular surfaces, in order to perform detailed building information modeling of the architectural elements. The proposed workflows demonstrated an appropriate performance in terms of reliable and complete BIM mapping in the complex structures.
