[Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (auteur) The rapid expansion and unreasonable design of impervious surfaces caused by urbanization have seriously aggravated urban waterlogging. Determining how to optimize the spatial layout of impervious surfaces is the focus of urban waterlogging prevention in urban renewal. The existing urban-renewal methods include constructing low-impact development measures by reducing the area of impervious surfaces or implementing a local high-strength design based on the ant colony algorithm (ACA) from the viewpoint of optimization design. However, these methods have obvious shortcomings in terms of time efficiency, and their optimized design schemes are insufficient at considering the global impervious surface design. Therefore, to address these problems, the study proposes a coupled model of multivariate linear programming and Soil Conservation Service curve number. The model is employed in the central city of Guangzhou, China. The results show, first, that the optimal design of impervious surfaces in urban renewal is to construct a discontinuous connection of high-low-high-density impervious surfaces; second, that, compared with ACA, our method has higher robustness, increases the average optimization rate by 4.48 to 14.00%, and reduces the optimization time over 30 days to 20.8 s; and third, that the optimal results realize the global low-strength transformation as complements of the existing design scheme of local high-strength transformation. This study optimizes methods for alleviating urban waterlogging urban renewal at different scales or intensities. [Termes IGN] zone arideRésumé : (auteur) Water is a key natural resource on earth, especially in arid and semi-arid regions with limited rainfall amounts. The impact of drought could be alleviated via constructing dams to ensure water storage and supply. The aim of the present study is to detect proper sites for planning rainwater harvesting (RWH) in the western desert of Iraq using both the Boolean overlay and the weighted linear combination (WLC) in the geographic information system (GIS). Potential sites of rainwater harvesting were identified using multi-criteria evaluation. Several criteria were used, including physical characteristics and climatological and socio-economic conditions to determine the proper location for RWH. Seven WLC parameters were used in the site selection process: runoff, slope, soil texture, land use/land cover (LULC), distance from irrigated lands, distance from residential areas, and distance from roads, while the Boolean overlay method used the stream order and distance from faults parameters. The results indicated that the final map can be classified into three classes of suitability, i.e., (i) highly suitable with 6% coverage (117 km2), (ii) moderately suitable with 4% coverage (78 km2), and (iii) least suitable with 90% coverage (1758 km2) of the basin area. It was indicated that only three earthen dams could be executed along streams. This low data-intensive and cost-effective methodology offered can be adopted in arid regions to embrace RWH as an efficient strategy to handle growing water scarcity. The proposed method could be adopted in many countries that have identical environmental and physical conditions to the western desert of Iraq, which is the case in most arid regions. [Termes IGN] réseau neuronal récurrentRésumé : (Auteur) The use of recurrent neural networks (RNNs) to utilize measurements from commercial microwave links (CMLs) has recently gained attention. Whereas previous studies focused on the performance of methods for wet–dry classification, here we propose an RNN algorithm for estimating the rain-rate. We empirically analyzed the proposed algorithm, using real data, and compared it with the traditional power-law (PL)-based algorithm, commonly used for estimating rain from CML attenuation measurements. Our analysis shows that the data-driven RNN algorithm, when properly trained, outperforms the PL algorithm in terms of accuracy. On the other hand, the PL algorithm is simpler and more robust when dealing with a large variety of corruptions and adverse conditions. We then introduced a time normalization (TN) layer for controlling the trade-off between performance and robustness of the RNN methods, and demonstrated its performance. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (auteur) Rainwater harvesting (RWH), which is the collection and storage of rainwater for multiple purposes, is gaining recognition in water supply issues. Selection of harvesting sites is the most critical factor in RWH projects. The objective of this study is to develop a suitability map of RWH sites for a basin in Saudi Arabia. The method used, constitute the identification and assigning weights to criteria, and generation of suitability map using Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). Eight appropriate criteria were considered. Results showed that excellent and good sites covered about 40.6% of the total available sites. Sensitivity analysis showed that the curve number (CN), slope, rainfall and soil were the most influential criteria. The maximum increase in the percentage area of excellent sites was 92% while good and moderate classes decreased by 43 and 53%, respectively. The developed suitability maps provide useful information to the decision maker for use in water management.
