[Termes IGN] précision géométrique (imagerie)Résumé : (Auteur) Geometric correction accuracy of IRS-1D panchromatic imagery was investigated using GPS- and 1:25000 scale topographic map-derived control points. The differentially corrected GPS-derived coordinates provided markedly more accurate results than did uncorrected handheld GPS and map-derived GCPs. The rms error value of differentially corrected GPS-derived control points based on second-degree polynomial was in the order of + 3 m. Geometric corrections made with second-degree polynomials, using both the map- and uncorrected handheld GPS-derived control points, yielded rms error values in the order of + 5 m. The results revealed that the uncorrected handheld GPS-derived control points can be a valuable alternative to planimetric control for geometric correction of IRS-1C/D panchromatic imagery with one-pixel size accuracy. [Termes IGN] TESRésumé : (Auteur) Asia is an area where currently there is a huge activity in terms of building and launching satellites with a high-resotution imaging capabitity. Already six high-resolution satellites have been built in Asiatic countries and are operational, including two each from Israel, India and Japan. Another high-resotution satellite belonging to Taiwan is due to be launched within the next month or so. A further five are scheduled to be launched within the period 2004-2005 and still more are planned to be orbited during the rest of the decade. As will be seen, the vast majority of these satellites are being launched with national security considerations in mind. [Termes IGN] TRMMRésumé : (Auteur) Eight different fire datasets for Indonesia were compared with each other and to fine spatial resolution burnscar maps. Results show that each dataset detects different fires. More than two-thirds of the fires detected by one dataset are not detected by any other dataset. None of the datasets detect fires in all test areas. Fire regime, satellite sensor characteristics and fire detection algorithms all influence which fires are detected. Fire datasets were not complementing each other as they all had commission as well as omission errors. [Termes IGN] SPOT5Résumé : (Auteur) The VEGETATION instrument is the starting point of a European Earth monitoring system that was developed jointly by France, the European Commission, Belgium, Italy and Sweden. Since April 1998, VEGETATION has provided a high quality global monitoring of the day-to-day land cover dynamics at I km resolution. The whole dataset is now available free of charge to the broad range of potential users and applications. The quality of delivered products in terms of radiometry, geometry and additional processing for directional and atmospheric effects stands VEGETATION as an excellent tool for the monitoring of surface hydrology, crops, forest and land cover. Surface reflectances that are delivered by the operational VEGETATION system are corrected for molecular and aerosol scattering, for water vapour, ozone and other gas absorption. So far, the only well known Maximum Value Composite (MVC) technique was used in the construction of 10-day synthesis. An additional enhanced composite product is now available, which evaluates the atmospheric optical depth and normalizes angular Sun-target-sensor variations. After presenting the VEGETATION instrument and products, this paper introduces the new compositing schemes (Duchemin and Maisongrande 2002, Duchernin et al. 2002) and presents samples of the new products.
