[Termes IGN] PROBARésumé : (Auteur) The Proba-1 microsatellite has been remarkably successful in demonstrating the use of new technologies in space. Even after 5 years in orbit, it remains fully operational, with no backup systems called into service. Having achieved its technology goals long ago, it is now working as an Earth observation mission, returning thousands of valuable images. [Termes IGN] secteur terrienRésumé : (Auteur) The Global Monitoring of Environment and Security (GMES) programme is based on a fleet of European Earth observation satellites, built and operated by ESA, member states and commercial entities. GMES will also offer data from non-European satellites. In order to provide operational and sustainable user services and to avoid unnecessary duplication in technologies, the challenge is to harmonise the various approaches to the ground segments of the different satellites and to involve the users. To begin this harmonisation process, a Ground Segment Coordination Body was created to adopt a common, coordinated and cost-effective approach that responds to the needs of Earth observation users. [Vedettes matières IGN] AltimétrieRésumé : (Auteur) Three unique techniques have been developed to validate the Ice, Cloud, and Land Elevation Satellite (ICESat) mission altimetry data product and implemented at White Sands Space Harbor (WSSH) in New Mexico. One specific technique at WSSH utilizes zenith-pointed sensors to detect the laser on the surface and enable geolocation determination of the altimeter footprint that is independent of the data product generation. The system of detectors also registers the laser light time of arrival, which is related to the data product time tag. Several overflights of the WSSH have validated these time tags to less than 3+ 1 us. The ground-based detector system also verified the laser illuminated spot geolocation to 10.6 m (3.5 arcsec) + 4.5 m on one occasion, which is consistent with the requirement of 3.5 m (1ó). A third technique using corner cube retroreflector signatures in the altimeter echo waveforms was also shown to provide an assessment of the laser spot geolocation. Although the accuracy of this technique is not equal to the other methodologies, it does offer position determination for comparison to the spacecraft altimetry data product. In addition, elevation verifications were made using the comparison of the ICESat elevation products at WSSH to those acquired with an airborne light detection and ranging. The elevation comparisons show an agreement to within + 34 cm (+ 6.7 cm under best conditions) which indicate no significant errors associated with the pointing knowledge of the altimeter. [Termes IGN] visibilitéRésumé : (Auteur) This paper describes an automated method for predicting the number of satellites visible to a GPS receiver, at any point on the Earth's surface at any time. Intervisibility analysis between a GPS receiver and each potentially visible GPS satellite is performed using a number of different surface models and satellite orbit calculations. The developed software can work with various ephemeris data, and will compute satellite visibility in real time. Real-time satellite availability prediction is very useful for mobile applications such as in-car navigation systems, personal navigations systems and LBS. The implementation of the method is described and the results are reported.
