[Vedettes matières IGN] Inventaire forestierRésumé : (auteur) New mortality models were developed for the purpose of improving long-term growth and yield simulations in Finland, Norway, and Sweden and were based on permanent national forest inventory plots from Sweden and Norway. Mortality was modelled in two steps. The first model predicts the probability of survival, while the second model predicts the proportion of basal area in surviving trees for plots where mortality has occurred. In both models, the logistic function was used. The models incorporate the variation in prediction period length and in plot size. Validation of both models indicated unbiased mortality rates with respect to various stand characteristics such as stand density, average tree diameter, stand age, and the proportion of different tree species, Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.), Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.), and broadleaves. When testing against an independent dataset of unmanaged spruce-dominated stands in Finland, the models provided unbiased prediction with respect to stand age. [Termes IGN] temps de propagationRésumé : (auteur) We present a deep-learning method for a single-station earthquake location, which we approach as a regression problem using two separate Bayesian neural networks. We use a multitask temporal convolutional neural network to learn epicentral distance and P travel time from 1-min seismograms. The network estimates epicentral distance and P travel time with mean errors of 0.23 km and 0.03 s and standard deviations of 5.42 km and 0.66 s, respectively, along with their epistemic and aleatory uncertainties. We design a separate multi-input network using standard convolutional layers to estimate the back-azimuth angle and its epistemic uncertainty. This network estimates the direction from which seismic waves arrive at the station with a mean error of 1°. Using this information, we estimate the epicenter, origin time, and depth along with their confidence intervals. We use a global data set of earthquake signals recorded within 1° (~112 km) from the event to build the model and demonstrate its performance. Our model can predict epicenter, origin time, and depth with mean errors of 7.3 km, 0.4 s, and 6.7 km, respectively, at different locations around the world. Our approach can be used for fast earthquake source characterization with a limited number of observations and also for estimating the location of earthquakes that are sparsely recorded—either because they are small or because stations are widely separated. [Termes IGN] régression multivariée par spline adaptativeRésumé : (auteur) This study investigates to use GPS/Levelling measurements of Kuwait and four heuristic regression methods including Least Square Support Vector Regression (LSSVR), Gaussian Process Regression (GPR), Kernel Ridge Regression (KRR), and Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines (MARS) for modelling local geoid undulation. The accuracy of the models was compared by geoid undulation of gravitational observations and Global Geopotential Models (GGMs). The results show that the KRR model is suitable for Kuwait geoid model, its error of percentage is 0.018 and 0.124% relative to gravity and GPS/Levelling geoid undulation models, respectively. Furthermore, the comparison of KRR model with GGMs models signifies its accuracy. [Termes IGN] trait de côteRésumé : (auteur) Coastline or Shoreline calculation is one of the important factors in the finding of coastal accretion and erosion and the study of coastal morphodynamic. Coastal erosion is a tentative hazard for communities especially in coastal areas as it is extremely susceptible to increasing coastal disasters. The study has been conducted along the coast of Vishakhapatnam district, Andhra Pradesh, India with the help of multi-temporal satellite images of 1991 2001, 2011 and 2018. The continuing coastal erosion and accretion rates have been calculated using the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS). Linear regression rate (LRR), End Point Rate (EPR) and Weighted Linear Regression (WLR) are used for calculating shoreline change rate. Based on calculations the district shoreline has been classified into five categories as high and low erosion, no change and high and low accretion. Out of 135 km, high erosion occupied 5.8 km of coast followed by moderate or low erosion 46.2 km. Almost 34.7 km coastal length showed little or no change. Moderate accretion is found along 30.5 km whereas high accretion trend found around 17.8 km. The outcome of shows that erosion is prevailing in Vishakhapatnam taluk, Ankapalli taluk, Yellamanchili taluk whereas most of the Bhemunipatnam coast is accreting. Natural and manmade activities and phenomena influence the coastal areas in terms of erosion and accretion. The study could be used for further planning and development and also for disaster management authority in the decision-making process in the study area. [Termes IGN] spectroradiomètreRésumé : (auteur) Successful retrieval of leaf area index (LAI) from hyperspectral remote sensing relies on the proper selection of indices or multivariate models. The objectives of the research work were to identify best vegetation index and multivariate model based on canopy reflectance and LAI measured at different growth stages of wheat. Comparison of existing indices revealed optimized soil-adjusted vegetation index (OSAVI) as the best index based on R2 of calibration, validation and root mean square error of validation. Proposed ratio index (RI; R670, R845) and normalized difference index (NDI; R670, R845) provided comparable performance with the existing vegetation indices (R2 = 0.65 and 0.62 for RI and NDI, respectively, during validation). Among the multivariate models, partial least squares regression (PLSR) model with Hyperion band configuration performed the best during validation (R2 = 0.80 and RMSE = 0.58 m2 m−2). Our results manifested the opportunities for developing biophysical products based on satellite sensors.
