[Vedettes matières IGN] SylvicultureRésumé : (auteur) Mediterranean stone pine reforestations are common characteristics of the Italian Tyrrhenian coast, which mostly maintain uniform and monolayered stand structures. However, improving structural diversity is an effective climate change adaptation strategy in forest management. The aim of this study was to implement a methodology which allows distinct reforested areas such as a single green infrastructure to be managed according to the surrounding land use and the characteristics of the forest stands. 240 hectares of Mediterranean stone pine forests located along a 16 km strip of the Lazio coast (Central Italy) were mapped. Twelve attributes describing the pine stands and showing possible constraints for future management decisions were associated to each forest patch. A hierarchical cluster analysis was performed to group the pinewood patches according to their similarity level and five different groups were identified. For each group, different silvicultural methods were proposed to guide the compositional and structural evolution of the stands, in order to make them suitable for providing services required locally and increasing overall diversity at landscape scale. The results of the study highlight how coastal land uses can offer effective inputs to differentiate the management of forest systems and therefore achieve greater variety and resilience in the landscape over time. This approach is particularly useful in the case of very homogeneous stands such as the stone pine reforestations under study. [Termes IGN] teneur intégrée en vapeur d'eauRésumé : (auteur) Recent studies using convection-permitting (CP) climate simulations have demonstrated a step-change in the representation of heavy rainfall and rainfall characteristics (frequency-intensity) compared to coarser resolution Global and Regional Climate models. The goal of this study is to better understand what explains the weaker frequency of precipitation in the CP ensemble by assessing the triggering process of precipitation in the different ensembles of regional climate simulations available over Europe. We focus on the statistical relationship between tropospheric temperature, humidity and precipitation to understand how the frequency of precipitation over Europe and the Mediterranean is impacted by model resolution and the representation of convection (parameterized vs. explicit). We employ a multi-model data-set with three different resolutions (0.44°, 0.11° and 0.0275°) produced in the context of the MED-CORDEX, EURO-CORDEX and the CORDEX Flagship Pilot Study "Convective Phenomena over Europe and the Mediterranean" (FPSCONV). The multi-variate approach is applied to all model ensembles, and to several surface stations where the integrated water vapor (IWV) is derived from Global Positioning System (GPS) measurements. The results show that all model ensembles capture the temperature dependence of the critical value of IWV (IWVcv), above which an increase in precipitation frequency occurs, but the differences between the models in terms of the value of IWVcv, and the probability of its being exceeded, can be large at higher temperatures. The lower frequency of precipitation in convection-permitting simulations is not only explained by higher temperatures but also by a higher IWVcv necessary to trigger precipitation at similar temperatures, and a lower probability to exceed this critical value. The spread between models in simulating IWVcv and the probability of exceeding IWVcv is reduced over land in the ensemble of models with explicit convection, especially at high temperatures, when the convective fraction of total precipitation becomes more important and the influence of the representation of entrainment in models thus becomes more important. Over lowlands, both model resolution and convection representation affect precipitation triggering while over mountainous areas, resolution has the highest impact due to orography-induced triggering processes. Over the sea, since lifting is produced by large-scale convergence, the probability to exceed IWVcv does not depend on temperature, and the model resolution does not have a clear impact on the results. Although surface deformation has been predicted by artificial intelligence (AI) methods, most AI models are established based on the relationships between surface deformation and influential factors. The lack of consideration of the deformation state transition often leads to errors in the prediction results of catastrophic deformation by conventional AI methods. In this respect, this study introduces a surface deformation prediction model based on spatio-temporal association rule mining (STARM). Surface deformation is classified as excessive deformation zone (EDZ) and hysteretic deformation zone (HDZ), representing different surface deformation stage or state. The spatio-temporal association rules between the monitored EDZ and HDZ data are then mined. A surface deformation prediction model is established according to the spatio-temporal relationship between monitored EDZ and HDZ data. The proposed model is verified based on a practical case study of the Chengchao Iron Mine in China. The data collection of the influential factors is not requisite for the proposed model. It can achieve accurate prediction of the catastrophic deformation that was characterized by deformation state transition. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (auteur) The accuracy of rapid earthquake assessment and the emergency assessment system for earthquake-induced damages could be substantially enhanced if the casualties triggered by earthquake-induced geological disasters, such as landslides, are subjected to comprehensive scientific evaluation. However, no credible solution for this purpose has been formulated yet. This study suggests a three-step rapid assessment method designed for earthquake-induced landslide casualties based on the GIS and an associated logistic regression model, as follows: (1) Partition of the region to be evaluated as a 1 km × 1 km grid in the GIS, with assignment of a certain amount of population to each of the grid cells as its population attribute. (2) Calculation of the death rate for each grid cell based upon its earthquake-induced landslide susceptibility attribute using the logistic regression model. (3) The earthquake-induced landslide casualties are first determined for each of the kilometer grid cells, and then for the entire region under evaluation. The proposed method was implemented to test the assessment of earthquake-induced landslide casualties in three earthquake-stricken regions. The study reveals the feasibility of the extensibility and applicability of the proposed rapid assessment method for earthquake-induced landslide casualties, and its suitability for similar assessments and calculations of other regions.
