[Termes IGN] tomographie radarRésumé : (Auteur) The objective of this paper is to provide a better understanding of the capabilities of the BIOMASS tomography concerning the retrieval of forest biomass and height in tropical areas. The analysis presented in this paper is carried out on airborne data acquired by Office National d'Etudes et de Recherches Aérospatiales (ONERA) over the site of Paracou, French Guiana, during the European Space Agency campaign TropiSAR. This high-resolution data set (125-MHz bandwidth) was reprocessed in order to generate a new data stack consistent with BIOMASS as for the bandwidth (6 MHz) and the azimuth resolution (about 12 m). To do this, two different processing approaches have been considered. One approach consisted of degrading the resolution of the airborne data through the linear filtering of raw data, followed by standard SAR processing. The other approach consisted of recovering the 3-D distribution of the scatterers at a high resolution, which was then reprojected onto the BIOMASS geometry. The latter procedure allows us to obtain a data stack that is the most realistic emulation of BIOMASS imaging capabilities. In both approaches, neither ionospheric disturbances nor temporal decorrelation has been considered. The connection to the forest biomass has been examined in both cases by investigating the correlation between the backscatter at different forest heights and the above-ground biomass (AGB) values from in situ data. As expected, the reduction of the system bandwidth to 6 MHz resulted in significant vertical resolution losses compared with the original airborne data. Nevertheless, it was possible to retrieve the forest height to within an accuracy of better than 4 m, whereas the backscattered power at the volume height (30 m above the ground) exhibited a correlation higher than 0.8 with the in situ data and no bias phenomena over the AGB values ranging from 250 to 450 t/ha. [Termes IGN] moment d'inertieRésumé : (auteur) The Earth’s dynamic figure parameters, namely the principal moments of inertia and dynamic ellipticities of the whole Earth, the fluid outer core and the solid inner core, are fundamental parameters for geodetic, geophysical and astronomical studies. This study aims to re-estimate the mass and the dynamic figure parameters of the Earth on the basis of some global gravity models (EGM2008, EIGEN-6C and EIGEN-6C2) recently released with unprecedented accuracies, as well as an improved value of the gravitational constant G recommended by the Committee on Data for Science and Technology (CODATA). With the potential coefficients of EGM2008, EIGEN-6C and EIGEN-6C2 rescaled to be consistent with the IAU (International Astronomical Union) and IAG (International Association of Geodesy) numerical standards, and other values of relevant parameters also being consistent with those numerical standards, we have obtained consistent estimates of the dynamic figure parameters of the stratified Earth using the theory described in Chen and Shen (J Geophys Res 115:B12419 2010). Our preferred principal moments of inertia for the whole Earth are A=(80,085.1±9.6)×1033 kg m2,B=(80,086.8±9.6)×1033 kg m2, and C=(80,349.0±9.6)×1033 kg m2, respectively, the accuracies being limited by the uncertainties of G and e (dynamic ellipticity of the whole Earth). [Termes IGN] superposition d'imagesRésumé : (auteur) For image fusion in remote sensing applications the georeferencing accuracy using position, attitude, and camera calibration measurements can be insufficient. Thus, image processing techniques should be employed for precise coregistration of images. In this article a method for multimodal object-based image coregistration refinement between hyperspectral images (HSI) and digital surface models (DSM) is presented. The method is divided in three parts: object outline detection in HSI and DSM, matching, and determination of transformation parameters. The novelty of our proposed coregistration refinement method is the use of material properties and height information of urban objects from HSI and DSM, respectively. We refer to urban objects as objects which are typical in urban environments and focus on buildings by describing them with 2D outlines. Furthermore, the geometric accuracy of these detected building outlines is taken into account in the matching step and for the determination of transformation parameters. Hence, a stochastic model is introduced to compute optimal transformation parameters. The feasibility of the method is shown by testing it on two aerial HSI of different spatial and spectral resolution, and two DSM of different spatial resolution. The evaluation is carried out by comparing the accuracies of the transformations parameters to the reference parameters, determined by considering object outlines at much higher resolution, and also by computing the correctness and the quality rate of the extracted outlines before and after coregistration refinement. Results indicate that using outlines of objects instead of only line segments is advantageous for coregistration of HSI and DSM. The extraction of building outlines in comparison to the line cue extraction provides a larger amount of assigned lines between the images and is more robust to outliers, i.e. false matches. [Termes IGN] transport routierRésumé : (Auteur) When only one type of point is distributed in a region, clustered points can be seen as an anomaly. When two different types of points coexist in a region, they overlap at different places with various densities. In such cases, the meaning of a cluster of one type of point may be altered if points of the other type show different densities within the same cluster. If we consider the origins and destinations (OD) of taxicab trips, the clustering of both in the morning may indicate a transportation hub, whereas clustered origins and sparse destinations (a hot spot where taxis are in short supply) could suggest a densely populated residential area. This cannot be identified by previous clustering methods, so it is worthwhile studying a clustering method for two types of points. The concept of two-component clustering is first defined in this paper as a group containing two types of points, at least one of which exhibits clustering. We then propose a density-based method for identifying two-component clusters. The method is divided into four steps. The first estimates the clustering scale of the point data. The second transforms the point data into the 2D density domain, where the x and y axes represent the local density of each type of point around each point, respectively. The third determines the thresholds for extracting the clusters, and the fourth generates two-component clusters using a density-connectivity mechanism. The method is applied to taxicab trip data in Beijing. Three types of two-component clusters are identified: high-density origins and destinations, high-density origins and low-density destinations, and low-density origins and high-density destinations. The clustering results are verified by the spatial relationship between the cluster locations and their land-use types over different periods of the day. [Termes IGN] SISARRésumé : (auteur) In this manuscript, we analyze the potentialities of the radargrammetric DSMs generation using high resolution SAR imagery acquired by three different platforms (COSMO-SkyMed, TerraSAR-X and RADARSAT-2), with particular attention to geometric orientation models. Two orientation models are considered and compared: Toutin’s model (Canada Center for Remote Sensing), implemented in the commercial software package PCI-Geomatica and based on Ground Control Points (GCPs), and the radargrammetric model implemented in the scientific software SISAR (University of Rome La Sapienza), based on images metadata orbital information only. Moreover, a comparison between the DSMs following the image matching approaches implemented in PCI-Geomatica and SISAR has been performed. The analysis has been carried out over Beauport test site (Quebec, Canada), where three overlapping stereopairs, one for each of the mentioned platform, were acquired and a LiDAR ground truth and a dense set of GNSS Check points (CPs) are available. The presented results appear promising: DSMs accuracy are within 4 and 5 m for all sensors, independently from orientation model (with or without GCP) and image matching approach, provided good relative orientation is guaranteed, what mainly attains to the quality of metadata orbital information.
