[Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (Auteur) Novel automated photogrammetry is based on four innovations. First is the cost-free increase of overlap between images when sensing digitally. Second is an improved radiometry. Third is multi-view matching. Fourth is the Graphics Processing Unit (gpu), making complex algorithms for image matching very practical. These innovations lead to improved automation of the photogrammetric workflow so that point clouds are created at sub-pixel accuracy, at very dense intervals, and in near real-time, thereby eroding the unique selling proposition of lidar scanners. Two test projects compare point clouds from aerial and street-side lidar systems with those created from images. We show that the photogrammetric accuracy compares well with the lidar-method, yet the density of surface points is much higher from images, and the throughput is commensurate with a fully automated all-digital approach. Beyond this density, we identify 15 additional advantages of the photogrammetric approach. [Termes IGN] visualisation de donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) Visual analytics aims to combine the strengths of human and electronic data processing. Visualisation, whereby humans and computers cooperate through graphics, is the means through which this is achieved. Seamless and sophisticated synergies are required for analysing spatio-temporal data and solving spatio-temporal problems. In modern society, spatio-temporal analysis is not solely the business of professional analysts. Many citizens need or would be interested in undertaking analysis of information in time and space. Researchers should find approaches to deal with the complexities of the current data and problems and find ways to make analytical tools accessible and usable for the broad community of potential users to support spatio-temporal thinking and contribute to solving a large range of problems. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Conventional object-relational database management system (ORDBMS) vendors provide extension mechanisms for adding user-defined types and functions to their own DBMSs. Here, the extension mechanisms are implemented using a highlevel (typically, SQL-level) interface. We call this mechanism loose-coupling. The advantage of loose-coupling is that it is easy to implement. However, it is not preferable for implementing new data types and operations in large databases when high performance is required. We have earlier proposed the tight-coupling architecture (Whang et al. 2002, 2005) to satisfy this requirement. In tight-coupling, new data types and operations are integrated into the core of the DBMS engine in the extensible type layer. Thus, they are supported in a consistent manner with high performance. This tight-coupling architecture is being used to incorporate information retrieval features and spatial database features into the Odysseus ORDBMS that has been under development at KAIST/AITrc for 19 years. In this paper, we introduce the tightly-coupled spatial database features of Odysseus/OpenGIS. By taking advantage of tight-coupling, Odysseus/OpenGIS provides excellent performance in processing spatial queries as well as flexible concurrency control and recovery on spatial data. We show the performance through extensive experiments. Finally, we present sample applications of a geographical information system (GIS) implemented using Odysseus/OpenGIS. This paper reports on a reliable and precise methodology developed to integrate high-resolution close range photogrammetry and range sensors for 3D surveys of dinosaur footprints. The 3D footprint and track models recovered here yield a great deal of accurate morphological and morphometrical information, providing palaeoichnologists with a simpler and cheaper way to document track fossils and the opportunity to formulate new hypotheses about the dynamics of dinosaur locomotion.
