[Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Studies on urban–rural fringes, which represent regions facing various urbanization problems caused by rapid expansion, have steadily increased in recent years. However, problems persist in the quantitative delimitation of such regions. Based on the characteristics of abrupt urbanization-level changes in urban–rural fringe areas, we propose a constraint-based method in this study to detect the urban–rural fringes of cities with a spatial polycentric structure of ‘Main center–Subcenter’ based on data from multiple sources. We used the proposed approach to delimitate the fringe areas of Jiangyin and Zhangjiagang and identify their urban main center and subcenter pre-defined by their city master plans, towns, and rural hinterlands. Comparison of the identified results of different single urbanization indices, a single detection center, kernel density estimation, and a single constraint revealed that the patch density and Shannon’s diversity index of the proposed method were higher in urban–rural fringes and smaller in city centers and rural hinterlands. This suggests that the landscape of urban–rural fringes delimitated by the proposed method is more fragmented, diverse, and complicated, thereby performing better. This study is significant for future urban spatial analysis, planning, and management. [Termes IGN] variation diurneRésumé : (auteur) The conservation of historical heritage can bring social benefits to cities by promoting community economic development and societal creativity. In the early stages of historical heritage conservation, the focus was on the museum-style concept for individual structures. At present, heritage area vitality is often adopted as a general conservation method to increase the vibrancy of such areas. However, it remains unclear whether urban morphological elements suitable for urban areas can be applied to heritage areas. This study uses ridge regression and LightGBM with multi-source big geospatial data to explore whether urban morphological elements that affect the vitality of heritage and urban areas are consistent or have different spatial distributions and daily variations. From a sample of 12 Chinese cities, our analysis shows the following results. First, factors affecting urban vitality differ from those influencing heritage areas. Second, factors influencing urban and heritage areas' vitality have diurnal variations and differ across cities. The overarching contribution of this study is to propose a quantitative and replicable framework for heritage adaptation, combining urban morphology and vitality measures derived from big geospatial data. This study also extends the understanding of forms of heritage areas and provides theoretical support for heritage conservation, urban construction, and economic development. [Termes IGN] protection du patrimoineRésumé : (auteur) Collaboration between the two Joint Programming Initiatives “Cultural Heritage and Global Change” (JPI CH), and “Connecting Climate Knowledge for Europe” (JPI Climate) began in 2019 and led to the organisation of a joint workshop a year later. Following the recommendations in the workshop report, an expert working group was set up to scope research gaps and opportunities at the interface of cultural heritage and climate change, culminating in the publication of this White Paper. This strategic document is expected to support the two JPIs to generate policy-relevant research outcomes. Four key messages are brought forth reviewing the state of the art in the field of cultural heritage and climate change research:
• Research on individual geopolitical regions, or a few in immediate vicinity of one another, remains prevalent: there is an opportunity to stimulate research and knowledge exchange that crosscuts several regions which - although geographically disparate - present common challenges and opportunities.
• Quantitative and qualitative methods remain siloed in their applications; mixed methods, which reflect a cross-disciplinary approach, are more likely to be found in pre-policy publications.
• There is a need for further understanding of culture and heritage as embedded in their socio-environmental contexts to inform policy, including the role of traditional and local knowledge, as well as learning from the past.
• The ecological and social impacts related to losses and opportunities for cultural assets and values from adaptation and mitigation need to be researched more intensively.
Based on this comprehensive literature review, key research gaps and priorities under five themes have been identified for the European region and beyond that require more advanced knowledge in the coming years and that should be addressed by researchers to support climate adaptation and mitigation measures:
• Addressing the Climate Emergency: Strengthening the commitment of the cultural heritage sector to address the climate emergency
• The Impacts of Climate Change: Predicting and assessing the impacts of climate change on and through cultural heritage
• Protecting Cultural Heritage: Building protection and adaptation strategies for cultural heritage
• Contributing to Climate Adaptation: Assessing the potential of cultural heritage to inform the development of climate adaptation
• Cultural Heritage as a Resource: Investigating how cultural heritage can support societal transformations and be a resource for climate mitigation and sustainable futures.
To address the research gaps and priorities, both JPIs propose three types of instrument that could be used in supporting collaborative efforts between and beyond the two initiatives:
• Funding instruments enable the mobilisation of new research funding from the participating partners to launch joint funding calls, to provide better use of public resources, add value and avoid duplication.
• Networking and capacity building instruments focus on knowledge exchange, capacity building, communication and dissemination across relevant communities and promote joint activities between these communities, in cooperation with other instruments.
• Exploration and assessment instruments touch upon those required to gather, assess, and synthesise knowledge needed to inform and guide decisions on addressing the knowledge gaps identified in this White Paper.

Existing approaches train the networks by exploiting supervised information of the change areas, which, however, is not always available. A main challenge in the unsupervised problem setting is to avoid that change pixels affect the learning of the translation function. We propose two new network architectures trained with loss functions weighted by priors that reduce the impact of change pixels on the learning objective. The change prior is derived in an unsupervised fashion from relational pixel information captured by domain-specific affinity matrices. Specifically, we use the vertex degrees associated with an absolute affinity difference matrix and demonstrate their utility in combination with cycle consistency and adversarial training. The proposed neural networks are compared with the state-of-the-art algorithms. Experiments conducted on three real data sets show the effectiveness of our methodology. [Termes IGN] réflectanceRésumé : (auteur) Phaeocystis globosa (P. globosa) is a unique causative species of harmful algal blooms, which can form gelatinous colonies. We, for the first time, used unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) measurements to identify P. globosa blooms and to quantify the biomass. Based on in situ measured remote sensing reflectance ( Rrs ), it is found that, for P. globosa blooms, the maximum of the second-derivative ( dλ2Rrs ) of Rrs(λ) in the 460–480-nm domain is beyond 466 nm. An analysis of the absorption properties from algal cultures suggested that this feature comes from the absorption of chlorophyll c3 (Chl −/c3 ) around 466 nm, a prominent feature of P. globosa. This position of dλ2Rrs maximum was, thus, selected as the criterion for P. globosa identification. The spatial extent of P. globosa blooms in two bays off southern China was then mapped by applying the criterion to UAV-measured Rrs . Twelve out of 16 UAV and in situ match-up stations were consistently identified as dominated by P. globosa, indicating the accuracy of 75%. Furthermore, using localized empirical models, chlorophyll a (Chl −/a ) concentration and colony numbers of P. globosa were estimated from UAV-derived Rrs , where P. globosa colonies were found in a range of ~3–37 gel matrix/L, indicating the occurrence of weak to moderate P. globosa blooms during the surveys. The promising results suggest a high potential for detection and quantification of P. globosa blooms in near-shore bays or harbors using UAV-based hyperspectral remote sensing, where conventional ocean color satellite remote sensing runs into difficulties.
