[Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (auteur) Merging is an important operation in the map generalization of land-cover and other coverages. We define structured geographic objects as collections of adjacent areas with homogeneous semantics that are regularly arranged as spatial structures. Existing studies have concentrated on unstructured objects, which will lead to the structured ones losing part or even most of the typical characteristics during merging. Therefore, as a supplement to the existing mature merging method, a targeted method was proposed in this paper to address the merging problem of structured geographic objects. First, structured geographic objects were classified into four typical patterns, and they were identified automatically according to seven spatial structure parameters. Second, a Miter-type buffer transformation was introduced to extract the overall boundary of structured geographic objects, and areas inside the overall boundary were processed with the most appropriate merging operations for their pattern. Finally, the corresponding merged results of structured geographic objects were inserted back into the merged result of the original land-cover data by using the NOT operation, and the spatial conflicts near the boundary were adjusted. We test our method for a dataset of geographical census data for a city in China. The experimental results revealed that compared with state-of-the-art method, the proposed method produces more reasonable generalization result by effectively identifying and maintaining the typical spatial structures; moreover, the proposed method also preserves the planar tessellation characteristic of land-cover data and the balance of area variation in each land-cover class. [Termes IGN] tomographieRésumé : (auteur) Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) ionospheric tomography is a typical ill-posed problem. Joint inversion with external observation data is one of the effective ways to mitigate the problem. In this article, by fusing 3-D multisource ionospheric data, and improving the stochastic model, an improved GNSS tomographic algorithm MFCIT [computerized ionospheric tomography (CIT) using mapping function] is presented. The accuracy of the algorithm is validated by selected data under different geomagnetic and solar conditions acquired in Europe. The results show that the estimated, statistically significant uncertainty for each of the layers is about 0.50–3.0TECU, with the largest absolute error within 6.0TECU. The advantage of the MFCIT is that it is based on the Kalman filter, which enables efficient near real-time 3-D monitoring of ionosphere. The temporal resolution can reach ~1 min level. Here, we apply the ionospheric tomography inversion to the magnetic storm on January 7, 2015, in the European region, and quantified the evolution of the storm. The results show that the difference of the core region between the MFCIT and CODE GIM is less than 1TECU. More importantly, during the initial phase of the storm, when the ionospheric disturbance is not evident in the single layer CODE GIM model, the MFCIT shows obvious positive disturbances in the upper ionosphere, although there is no disturbance in the F2 layer. The MFCIT further tracks the evolution of the magnetic storm that the ionospheric disturbance expands from the upper to the lower ionosphere layers, and at UT12:00, the disturbance continues to spread to the F2 layer. [Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (auteur) In this paper, a new method for automatic filter coefficient calculation in lifting scheme wavelet transform for image lossless compression is proposed. Actually, there is no specific rule for setting filter coefficients (a, b). Therefore, this work proposes an automatic method to calculate the filter coefficients depending on the spectral analysis of each image. Also, filter coefficients are determined for five decomposition levels and for each quadrant through applying the discrete wavelet transform in the lossless image compression problem. Spectral patterns are computed and fixed into small length vectors for building different wavelet decomposition levels; these vectors are automatically computed using a 1-NN classifier. Experimental results over standard images show that calculating the wavelet filter coefficients using the proposed method generates higher compression rates (in entropy and bitstream values) against standard wavelet and linear prediction filters. [Termes IGN] transformation de coordonnéesRésumé : (auteur) To evaluate the benefit of a measurement procedure onto the estimated parameters, the dispersion of the parameters is usually used. To draw objective conclusions, unbiased or at least almost unbiased estimates are required. In geodesy, most of the functional relations are nonlinear but the statistical properties of the estimates are usually obtained by a linearised substitute-problem. Since the statistical properties of linear models cannot be passed to the nonlinear case, the estimates are biased. In this contribution, the bias of the parameters as well as the bias of the dispersion in nonlinear implicit models is investigated, using a second-order Taylor expansion. Nonlinear implicit models are general models and are used, for instance, in the framework of surface-fitting or coordinate transformation, which considers errors for the coordinates in source and target system. The bias is introduced as a further indicator to validate the benefit of an adapted measurement process using more precise measuring instruments. Since some parametrisations yield an ill-posed problem, also the case of a singular equation system is investigated. To demonstrate the second-order effect onto the estimates, a best-fitting plane is adjusted under varying configurations. Such a configuration is recommended in evaluating uncertainties of optical 3D measuring systems, e.g. in the framework of the VDI/VDE 2634 guideline. The estimated bias is used as an indicator whether a large number of poor observations provides better results than a small but precise sample. [Vedettes matières IGN] SylvicultureRésumé : (auteur) The recruitment of forest trees is driven by both bottom-up processes (the acquisition of resources) and top-down processes (herbivory). To initiate stand regeneration, foresters commonly reduce tree density to increase light levels for seedlings and enhance primary productivity. These changes in vegetation dynamics, however, could also influence effects of ungulate browsing, resulting in unintended consequences for forest management. Here, we assessed how effects of ungulate exclusion and canopy opening interacted to affect the regeneration of two oak species: Quercus robur and Quercus petraea. We monitored the growth and survival of oak seedlings for two to three growth seasons in paired fenced and unfenced plots under contrasting conditions of canopy openness (8% to 52%) at five sites in southern Sweden and three sites in northeastern France. We scored browsing in the unfenced plots by the four cervids occurring in these areas (Alces alces, Capreolus capreolus, Cervus elaphus and Dama dama). Fencing increased the growth of (mostly taller) seedlings occurring in Sweden and the survival of (mostly smaller) seedlings in France. Both effects increased as canopies became more open. Browsing reduced oak seedling growth in both countries, independently of canopy openness. Canopy openness increased browsing levels in Sweden. Cervid densities did not appear to modify how fencing affected oak seedling growth and survival. In both contrasting forest environments, creating gaps tended to enhance ungulate damage on young forest stands as browsing frequency increased. We conclude that net forest regeneration reflects a subtle equilibrium between enhancing resource availability, boosting seedling growth, and limiting herbivory, which curtails seedling growth and survival.
